00:00Okay, coaches, anything on the black letters from here on up is good.
00:07All white here is good.
00:08You've got my instructions in the back, gentlemen.
00:10Protect yourselves at all times.
00:11Listen to my commands.
00:12Touch them up.
00:13Back to your corner, gentlemen.
00:14Thomas Taylor, the referee.
00:15667 bounces.
00:16Referee, a 14-year veteran.
00:17One of the best in the game today.
00:18Kaime Munguia, this is his 10th non-title fight since he was a world champion at 154
00:29pounds.
00:30Eric Bazinyan, his biggest moment as a pro.
00:33Tim, what do you expect from the Armenian fighting out of Canada?
00:39A very technical start in the beginning, and I believe that this fight was going to
00:43be won in the second half.
00:46Bazinyan has a good jab.
00:47As you see, he's starting off with his jab right away, and as I alluded to in the lab,
00:57Munguia also has developed a really good jab, so I think it'll be a jabbing battle for the
01:03first half of this round, both guys trying to get in a rhythm, but again, later in the
01:08fight, once Bazinyan starts to stand still, and he's actually not moving, he's actually
01:13coming forward and standing his ground, that body work can pay good dividends, I believe,
01:18from Munguia.
01:19That's a nice staff jab from Bazinyan, and he stops Munguia in his tracks with that stick.
01:26Right out the gate right there, you saw Munguia already immediately going downstairs or attempting
01:30to, Bazinyan just stepping out of range and making a miss.
01:34There's another stick, now it's Munguia who matches Bazinyan, punching with the Canadian
01:41best fighter.
01:42I'm waiting on the fighter that's going to counter the jab.
01:44You know he's going to throw it, so anticipate it, get close enough, and come over with the
01:49right hand.
01:50But both being defensively responsible in terms of how quick they bring that jab back.
01:55Absolutely.
01:56Give a chance to Mexico, Mexico, previously it was Munguia, Munguia, as an opposing fighter
02:05you still elected for Munguia.
02:07What does that do to you, Tim?
02:09Doesn't do anything.
02:10You just hope to shut him up.
02:12That's just it.
02:13It's like, okay, you can call his name, say whatever you want to say, however, I'm going
02:18to make you zip that mouth up real quick by landing my offense.
02:23Now, Bazinyan has two punches that can do damage against Munguia.
02:27One is the jab to Kimo Batbe, and the other is the uppercut, and that's the shot that
02:31Canelo dropped him with in the fourth round of their fight.
02:34And the right hand as well.
02:35The overhand right.
02:36Yeah, Munguia hit him with the right hand, right there, right over the top.
02:40Munguia shot a jab and pulled out of range and dropped that lead hand, and the right
02:44hand came right over the top.
02:46Bazinyan looks extremely smart in there, man.
02:49He's extremely technical.
02:50He knows what he's doing.
02:53Nice combination once again from Bazinyan, and it's all off of that throwaway jab sometimes
02:58that sets up the right, and you see a combination punch from Jaime Munguia.
03:02What did I tell you earlier on?
03:04Oh, that was a good right hand.
03:06He heard him with that.
03:07He heard him with that.
03:0825 seconds he left in round one.
03:11How will Bazinyan react?
03:17You know what I love about Munguia?
03:19He's a risk taker.
03:20Yep.
03:21That's what I love.
03:22You know, he's going to put punches.
03:23He's going to put numbers together.
03:24If he feels like he's losing the round, you know he's going to come out.
03:27Blazed.
03:28Listen for that bell, gentlemen.
03:29And that was the most effective punch of the round that may have been dominated by Bazinyan.
03:35Yo, those are nice.
03:36Hold on one second.
03:37Candice, what's up?
03:38I think my daughter's going pro at basketball.
03:40Yeah, she's three.
03:41Yeah, she's three.
03:42What's your point?
03:43I'll take those.
03:44Wait, you're at Dick's?
03:45Could you pick up an agility ladder for my daughter?
03:46One second, one second.
03:47Candice.
03:48You're done.
03:49What are you doing?
03:50Candace.
03:51Trent.
03:52Can you get me a red taxi?
03:53Okay.
03:54What else?
03:55Hey, Pat.
03:56Hey, she's got to see her.
03:57You've got two days going right now.
04:00Hey, Patrick.
04:01Let me call you back.
04:02She hung up.
04:03Oh, my goodness.
04:04This dude.
04:05I cannot.
04:06The three for me only at Chili's is now available with the all new Big Smasher Burger, piled
04:11up high with nearly half a pound of beef.
04:13Or you could settle for just some other burger at a drive-thru.
04:16Meh.
04:17Anyway, going to need some room, because the three for me still fills up the table with
04:21the bottomless drink, all the famous Chili's chips and salsa you can eat, and it's still
04:25the best deal around at just $10.99.
04:28See you later, tiny drive-thru burger.
04:31This Chili's three for me is the best $10.99 you can eat.
04:37As we get set for round two, great action, Tim, in round one for both guys.
04:41Yeah, you want to know how to take a jab away?
04:44You land the right hand over the top, and that's where Bazion was able to land in that
04:47last round.
04:48Here it is.
04:49You see Munguia step in with the jab down to the body.
04:52Boom.
04:53Gets clipped with the right hand on the way out.
04:55But also, you follow up.
04:57If you miss with a shot and you follow up, you see Munguia lands a shot on Bazion as
05:02he's trying to exit the pocket.
05:04Nice little left hook in there.
05:06Might have buzzed him.
05:07Might have hurt him a little bit.
05:08Yeah, that's another nice left hook here in the second round for Jaime Munguia.
05:12And I thought it was more effective when I saw it live, but seeing the replay, that
05:16right hand from Bazion may have given him that first round because it was just as solid
05:21as a left hook.
05:22And now you see a left hook from Bazion switching it up.
05:24That was a good shot right there.
05:26He caught him as he was coming in, so he had his momentum also coming in on that punch.
05:31This is a chest match at a very high level, Tim.
05:34I told you it is.
05:35Early on, both men respecting each other's power.
05:39Bazion understands that he has to box Munguia.
05:42He can't get in a firefight with him.
05:44He knows he won't win that battle at the end of the day.
05:47And Mark Ramsey was adamant in the corner in letting him know that you've got better
05:50fundamentals, you've got better tools.
05:52Don't let his power lure you into his fight.
05:56He went 109 as an amateur in one loss.
06:00Absolutely.
06:01And Tim, he lost his first fight and rolled off 109 consecutive amateur victories, did Bazion.
06:09Pretty impressive.
06:10He knows how to fight, and he has 169 rounds under his belt.
06:15That's a comparison of 211 in 44 fights for Jaime Munguia.
06:22As we hear the warning from referee Thomas Taylor.
06:25Nice jab once again from Bazion.
06:27That's going to be his bread and butter tonight.
06:29That is the bread and butter.
06:30That's how he's going to eat tonight, and that's how he can win the fight.
06:32And those are the numbers you're asking for from Munguia.
06:36That jab keeps your opposition at bay.
06:40It's the longest weapon you have to the target.
06:43The more you use it, it's going to set up the rest of your offense.
06:46And Munguia has to take risks to get inside of that jab.
06:51Either inside slips or outside slips.
06:53That's what he's going to have to do to take away that jab.
06:55Or he can dip underneath.
06:56He attempted the outside slip right there to try to come over.
06:59But Bazion saw it and exited to his right.
07:05Moving away from that right hand.
07:09You see the level changes from Munguia right there.
07:12He's trying to attempt.
07:13He's trying to load that front leg, which is the left hook,
07:15which is his bread and butter.
07:16He likes that left hook.
07:18You see that right hand of Bazion starting to drop slightly.
07:21Starting to drop.
07:22And then drop even more as the rounds go on.
07:25But you see it positioned a little bit past his face.
07:30Look for that left hook.
07:31He attempted it.
07:32You see?
07:33Absolutely.
07:34Saw what you saw, Tim.
07:35From one champion to another.
07:36Absolutely.
07:38Round 2 in the books here.
07:40Munguia Bazion made a bet.
07:51Yo, those are nice.
07:52Hold on one second.
07:53Candice, what's up?
07:54I think my daughter's going pro at basketball.
07:56Yeah, she's 3.
07:57What's your point?
07:58I'll take those.
07:59Wait, you're a Dix?
08:00Could you pick up an agility ladder for my daughter?
08:01One second, one second.
08:02What are you doing?
08:03Oh, you're right, Dix.
08:04Grab me that new Z and D hoodie.
08:05Hold on.
08:06Candice.
08:07Trent.
08:08Can you get me a red taxi?
08:09OK.
08:10What else?
08:11Hey, she got to see her.
08:12You got two a days going right now.
08:15Hey, Patrick, let me call you back.
08:17She hung up.
08:18Oh, my goodness.
08:19This dude.
08:20I cannot.
08:21How is this Chili's 3 for me only $10.99
08:23when fast food is so expensive?
08:25It could be because we don't have to pay for any mascots.
08:27Please!
08:28I was born for this!
08:30Please!
08:31It's never going to happen.
08:32Wait, wait.
08:33I knew the song.
08:34I want my baby back.
08:36Eric.
08:37Round 3 of a scheduled 12-round fight between Jaime Munguia,
08:43the former world champion at 154 pounds,
08:45fresh off his loss to Saul Canelo Alvarez on May 4th.
08:48That same night, Eric Bazimian was fighting Shaquille Finn
08:53to a draw in Montreal.
08:57So this is a redemption fight for both,
08:59and they're both ranked No. 2 by a different sanctioning body.
09:03WBC ranks Munguia at No. 2, Bazimian No. 2 in the WBO.
09:10Both dream of another payday against Canelo.
09:15Nice jab from Bazimian using his legs,
09:18and Munguia lands a jab of his own, setting up a body shot.
09:21Munguia now is starting to pick up the tempo now.
09:24I saw the urgency in his face and just the way he was posturing,
09:27trying to come forward.
09:28He's going to try to attempt to close the distance on Bazimian.
09:31That last round, I don't think he liked the way that round went.
09:34He was getting control with that jab of Bazimian.
09:38But he's going to have to eventually cut that distance.
09:40I mean, still third round right now.
09:43It's a 12-round fight.
09:44He has experience.
09:46I think he knows when to turn it up and turn it on.
09:49Nice left hook from Munguia,
09:51but good defensive posture with that right hand of Bazimian.
09:56Nice.
09:57You mentioned, Tim, it's starting to slip,
09:59and that's what Munguia is looking for.
10:01Get around that guard.
10:02Yeah, he is, but I like the head move and the lucidness of Munguia.
10:06At least he's trying to be more elusive,
10:09giving a little bit different looks up front,
10:12rotating his shoulders.
10:13Eventually, he's going to have to come off that,
10:16rotating his shoulders left and right.
10:18He's going to have to come off of that,
10:19disguise that right hand or that left hook.
10:21Bazimian taking a hook out of Munguia's fight plan,
10:25as he remembers earlier this round,
10:27and then Munguia sticking with the jab
10:30and trying to go downstairs.
10:32Oh, that uppercut attempt right there.
10:34He was trying to catch Munguia on the way in with an uppercut.
10:37That's the punch that dropped him in the fourth round
10:39against Canelo Alvarez.
10:41Both fighters are well-studied coming into this fight.
10:45They know what they're up against,
10:47and it's a chess match at a very high technical level.
10:50All right, I'm just going to say something,
10:51because I just need to get it off my chest.
10:53I love the jab coming from Bazimian, yes.
10:56You know, the aggression that's coming from Munguia,
10:59yes, he's coming inside.
11:00He's landing a few punches.
11:01Some are being grazed and blows him in block.
11:03However, you need to have more power shots being thrown.
11:07Effective punching.
11:08The jab, yes, it can be effective,
11:09but it's not a power jab.
11:11It's not really snapping his head back.
11:12It's kind of keeping him at bay a bit.
11:14Come behind that jab with something.
11:16If you hit him with the jab.
11:17My dad used to always tell me,
11:18if you can hit him with the jab,
11:19baby, you can hit him with the right hand.
11:22Let that right hand go.
11:24There's a small cut on the left side of the nose
11:26of Eric Bazimian, as mentioned by referee Thomas Taylor,
11:30or at least some inflammation.
11:33There's a nice counter from Bazimian.
11:35And that was a heavy shot.
11:36Yeah, one, two, straight.
11:38Heavy shot.
11:39You saw the legs of Munguia.
11:40I don't think he was hurt,
11:41but he was knocked off balance
11:43with those two heavy shots coming from Bazimian.
11:48All right, the tension continues to build,
11:50and the jab we knew was going to be an important punch
11:53in this fight, and Bazimian has been using it to perfection.
11:56Oh, yeah.
11:57I mean, you know, it's the general right now,
11:59and he's controlling range,
12:00and he's fighting at the pace he wants to fight at.
12:03He's slowed down Munguia.
12:04Munguia has yet to get inside of his chest,
12:07but again, you're landing that jab, yes,
12:10but what's coming behind it?
12:12You've got to land power shots.
12:14Effective, effective punching.
12:16That's what it's about.
12:19Unitarize the action.
12:24Right now, he has Munguia right where he needs him,
12:27and look at the CompuBox numbers.
12:29He averages 6.6 jabs landed per round.
12:32That's 2.3 above the super middleweight average.
12:36Tonight, he's at 11 jabs per round,
12:39and when you have a good weapon, Tim,
12:41you have to use it,
12:42but now there's got to be something behind it,
12:44like you said as we go to round four.
12:49Weather Diamond Arena,
12:51full house for Jaime Munguia.
12:53This is a technical battle as of right now,
12:56and I think that Bazinan is doing well in this technical battle.
13:00What Munguia needs to do is he needs to turn this into a fight.
13:04That will shoot him better.
13:07And that right counter,
13:09Bazinan once again,
13:11making Munguia know,
13:13you're going to eat some jabs like that.
13:15Good jab, and he's stepping in now,
13:17power with that jab,
13:19but he's keeping Munguia off balance with that jab,
13:21breaking his rhythm.
13:22Anything that he was thinking about doing
13:24before he got in that position,
13:25boom, he hits him in the face with the jab,
13:27and he forgets about it,
13:28and he has to reset his feet and replant his feet.
13:31Another jab.
13:33Kregel, who spoke with Mark Ramsey in Bazinan's corner.
13:37Ramsey's happy with what Bazinan's been doing with the jab,
13:42but he wants to follow it up.
13:43He says Munguia puts his head right in that hole,
13:46and he's right there for an uppercut
13:48with a right hand or left hook.
13:50Now things are starting to heat up.
13:55Here in round four.
13:56Yeah, Munguia's cut that distance real well
13:59with the head movement,
14:00dipping underneath a lot of those shots right there
14:02to get his offense off.
14:05He's going to need to do more of that
14:07to gain control,
14:08to kind of take over the momentum of this fight
14:10because that jab of Bazinan is something else.
14:14I mean, it's a snappy jab
14:16that he's able to connect on Jaime Munguia,
14:18and that sets up his power shots.
14:20He hasn't committed to those power shots as of yet, Tim,
14:23and you mentioned there's got to be something behind that jab,
14:26but his jab is really effective.
14:28You know what I like about Bazinan's punches
14:31is that he's not overshooting his punches.
14:34He's throwing them right from the shoulders.
14:36He knows his hands are heavy.
14:37He's not loading up.
14:38He's just shooting them right from where they are.
14:41That's actually...
14:43It covers up the telegraph.
14:45There's no telegraphing with his shots.
14:47He just shoots them right from the shoulders.
14:49Nice body shot there from Munguia.
14:51What you're saying is he's staying within himself.
14:53Yes, yes.
14:54He's not letting the moment get to him.
14:56He's not letting the fans get to him.
14:58He's not allowing Munguia to bring him into a firefight.
15:01He's fighting his fight right now.
15:03Munguia, I mean, again, he's coming forward.
15:05He's trying to close that distance.
15:07Nice hook right there on the inside from Munguia.
15:10Again, putting those numbers together.
15:16Nice straight right from Munguia,
15:18but Bazinan getting a piece of it on the defensive end.
15:21Look, I just want to show you guys something.
15:24Watch how Munguia, he gets in there, he works, he works,
15:27and just watch how he resets with that bounce right there.
15:29He is so vulnerable right there.
15:31He ain't ready for nothing to come back at him.
15:33If Bazinan was smart, what he would do,
15:35he would attack Munguia when he's bouncing up and down like that.
15:38You know who taught me about that?
15:40It was Bernard Hopkins.
15:41He said, Tito Trinidad does bounce, bounce, throw.
15:44What I would do is disrupt him.
15:46Bounce, disrupt him, have to reset.
15:48And that's exactly how he won that fight.
15:52And that's what's going on right now with Munguia and Bazinan.
15:57All right, Eric Morales back in the corner of Jaime Munguia.
16:01Let's listen to the legends.
16:04I feel a little tight.
16:07It's normal. You're gonna be all right.
16:11We've lost control of the fight.
16:14He throws jabs, but he's tentative with it.
16:18When he throws that jab, you gotta counter with the right.
16:22When you get close, go to the body.
16:24He knows how to use his range.
16:27But if you move your waist, you're gonna get close,
16:29you're gonna get there easily.
16:32The pressure is well.
16:34You need to be attentive and exit cleanly.
16:39Because that's where he can catch you on the way out.
16:43He's going a lot to the left.
16:45You gotta cut that exit out.
16:50Great work from Fernando Fernandez
16:53who was assisting Eric Morales in that corner
16:56with those distractions.
16:57What'd you think, Tim?
16:59He told him right.
17:01His objective is to close that distance.
17:05But he said he knows how to maintain his distance really well.
17:10You gotta tell him how to do it, what to do.
17:12Come behind that double jab.
17:15Start using that jab, doubling it, tripling that jab.
17:17To close the distance.
17:19Once you get there, you gotta let those hands go.
17:21You can't allow him to tie you up.
17:24You can't pull back into range.
17:27You gotta try to stay close to him.
17:30Like glue.
17:32Mark Kriegel was in the corner.
17:34More than anything, it's his scorecard right now through four.
17:3839-37.
17:40Eric Bazinyan.
17:42Jaime Munguia is stronger.
17:43He's more powerful.
17:44He's a better athlete when he gets off.
17:46You can see that Bazinyan feels it.
17:50But Bazinyan's a better boxer right now.
17:54Yeah, I mean, Bazinyan, he's using the jab again.
17:56But it's not power shots, man.
17:59You gotta land those power shots.
18:00That's how you win fights.
18:03And the reality, Tim, you're coming to a place that's friendly to Jaime Munguia.
18:10As Bazinyan lands a nice overhand right again.
18:15So you've got to make sure that there's no doubt.
18:17You don't want to go back to Canada saying,
18:19Ooh, what a nice straight right there from Bazinyan as he chops down on Munguia.
18:25He timing Munguia.
18:26He's timing that bouncing now.
18:29And Munguia, again, he's trying to be more elusive by moving his head side to side,
18:33but that's getting timed too by Bazinyan.
18:37Oh, uppercut up the middle by Bazinyan as well.
18:40And he's burying his punches now, Tim.
18:42Yes.
18:43Oh, bury that.
18:46Big shot. Bazinyan took it well.
18:50And that's a tribute to his work in the gym.
18:52When you're in there with Archer Beterbiev, with Christian and Billy,
18:55with all Stacey Graces doing high-level sparring,
18:58it prepares you for moments like this.
19:00Yeah, he doesn't fear Munguia.
19:03It doesn't look that way from what I'm watching.
19:05Good boxing right here.
19:06Just the legs again.
19:08Picking up his feet.
19:09Changing position.
19:11And as Munguia is trying to reposition himself, he's getting off on him.
19:18Tim, we talk about boxing.
19:19There's ways to use your legs to set up your offense,
19:21and that's exactly what Bazinyan is doing.
19:24Nice combination again from Bazinyan.
19:26I'm just going to tell you right now, Bazinyan has a ton of confidence right now.
19:29Munguia is going to have to do something to take that confidence away.
19:32He's going to have to land something significant to hurt him,
19:34and it has to be downstairs.
19:36He has to go downstairs and slow down those legs of Bazinyan.
19:41What do you think of him telling Eric Rollins,
19:43I feel a little tight.
19:45That he's what?
19:46He's feeling a little tight.
19:47Oh, that's not good in the shoulders area.
19:49Feeling a little tight.
19:50Ah, that's not a good thing.
19:53Means his timing is going to be definitely off if he's feeling tight.
19:56He's got to be relaxed in there.
19:58Got to loosen up over the next seven rounds of action here
20:03in our top rank on ESPN main event.
20:06Let's listen in to the legend, Eric Rollins.
20:08You need to control this.
20:09You need to be confident.
20:11Come on.
20:12You can take over this fight.
20:13Come on.
20:14You can take over this fight.
20:16Keep your left in a great defensive position.
20:19Catch and then
20:20either throw a straight right or a uppercut.
20:23And I need you to throw two punch combinations.
20:25No more than that.
20:28Don't let him get near you.
20:29And don't let him take control and get momentum.
20:38No body shots.
20:39All right.
20:40Good combination here, Tim.
20:41Yeah, this is a great combination from McGill.
20:42We need more of this right here.
20:43You see him just dipping right there.
20:45Changing levels.
20:46You see the jab.
20:47He sees the jab comes out.
20:48He's moving his head.
20:49Changed levels again.
20:50And he comes up with that left hook and a right hand to follow.
20:55Just need to see a little bit more of that.
20:56You know, he's putting the pressure on.
20:58He's making the fight.
21:00Bazian's doing his best to outbox him.
21:03Using his jab and movement to set traps for McGill.
21:06However, is it enough?
21:07I don't know.
21:08That pressure.
21:09Judges like that pressure, man.
21:11And that's the question here when we look at Steve Morin,
21:16Dennis O'Connell, and David Sutherland.
21:18Are they appreciative of the come forward action that Munguia's providing
21:23or the excellent tactical and technical work of Bazian behind that jab?
21:28And there you see the body work of Munguia.
21:30Trying to break down Bazian.
21:36There it is again.
21:37That left maybe dipped a little low.
21:39As the power punch is landed in favor of Munguia by 20.
21:45Turn to Bazian.
21:46He likes his space.
21:48When you're proud of his space, you see he doesn't do anything at all.
21:52Yeah.
21:53There's a nice overhand right.
21:54And now the momentum starts to shift towards Munguia.
21:58The Bazian jab was nonexistent through the first minute of this round.
22:05Now he lets the crowd back into it.
22:11Nice combination there from Bazian.
22:17Good head movement right there from Munguia.
22:19Again, no, double body shot right there.
22:22Again, Munguia, this is exactly where he needs to be.
22:26He needs to be close, near the pocket, either all the way away from him
22:31or all the way inside to be able to land those body shots.
22:35And now Bazian is biting on the face, Tim.
22:37He's biting on the face.
22:39And again, he likes his space.
22:41He's a counter puncher.
22:43He knows that he can't compete with him with that volume.
22:45He's not going to gas out.
22:47This is his first time going to a round.
22:49He's unsure.
22:51Even with all the sparring and everything with better B.S. and in-building.
22:58Nice one-two.
22:59Follows it up with a three.
23:01And this is where Munguia, when he puts numbers together,
23:04you start having trouble with the fighter out of Tijuana.
23:08Nice uppercut, too.
23:09Dips to the body first and then the right uppercut.
23:11You can't predict where all those punches is coming.
23:14And if you're not moving your head
23:16or if you're not just closing the gap on him
23:18and bodying up with him to stop the action,
23:21you're going to get hit.
23:23You're going to get hit.
23:26You're going to get hit.
23:27Something's going to get through.
23:28I think the liver shots are going to make a huge difference
23:32in this fight in favor of Munguia.
23:34Already slowing down Bazinyan.
23:36You see that.
23:37Sets up shots over the top with the right hand.
23:39He's with a high guard.
23:41Julio Cesar Chavez next to him is standing up already.
23:45The legend commenting for Tebe Azteca.
23:50Getting excited like the crowd is here in Glendale, Arizona.
23:56And the chess match has now become a fight, Tim.
23:59Second half, Doge is going to heat up.
24:07Munguia got a little bit outside of him, beside himself.
24:11Let's listen in to Mark Ramsey in the corner of Eric Bazinyan.
24:15Don't win that round. You give to him.
24:18I don't want to see him that close.
24:20You let him get close.
24:21Stop using your jab.
24:23You're going to win this fight with your one-two.
24:26Do you understand what I'm saying?
24:27Jab, right. Jab, right.
24:29The rest is just management.
24:31If he manages to get close to physical,
24:34I don't want you to get hit for nothing.
24:36We play our fight.
24:37Remember what I told you about this fight.
24:39Your jab and your right. Your jab and your right.
24:41Big defense.
24:43Now we go back to the same tactic.
24:47Of course, you let him come right away.
24:57Straight punches. Jab and right.
24:59Movement. Jab and right.
25:00Defense.
25:01Come on.
25:02Straight punches, Tim.
25:04Do you remember what b-ball used to be, Canelo?
25:08Yeah, straight punches.
25:10And that's what Mark Ramsey's asking out of Bazinyan.
25:13Yeah, I mean, straight punches.
25:14I mean, that's the...
25:15A straight line is quickest to the target, right?
25:18Absolutely.
25:19And it's working.
25:22Super middleweight action here in Glendale, Arizona.
25:25Round 7 of a scheduled 12-round fight.
25:27Bernardo Osuna, the Hall of Famer.
25:29Tim Bradley, Mark Regal, coming to you live on ESPN
25:34as you've decided to spend part of your evening with us.
25:38So Bazinyan right now is fighting back
25:40because he's trying to protect, right now, his weakness.
25:43He showed his weakness in the last round.
25:45Now he's trying to protect it by keeping Munguia outside.
25:51The weakness is inside.
25:52Yeah, 23 knockouts in 32 fights,
25:55or 32 wins for Eric Bazinyan.
25:58Munguia, 34 knockouts in 43 fights.
26:00And right now, the body work from Munguia
26:03really making a difference in turning the tide.
26:10Munguia, he makes his opposition work so hard,
26:12defensively, man, with his offense.
26:15You know, it somewhat provides momentary protection
26:20while raising his percentage of winning rounds.
26:25He's built his stamina up extremely well.
26:28Yeah, working up in Big Bear has been so important for him.
26:30He told us, look, the fact that I was with Freddie Roach
26:33at the Wild Card Gym before the Canelo fight
26:36instead of in Big Bear.
26:37Nice liver shot there from Munguia.
26:39Affected me in the Canelo fight.
26:41I didn't have the same wind down the stretch,
26:43and we saw that.
26:45Oh, nice combination.
26:46Right hook, left hook.
26:48Bazinyan back against the ropes.
26:50A minute and 20 seconds left here in round number seven.
26:53A long time for the Mexican fighter out of Tijuana
26:57to put in work.
27:00Good recovery from Bazinyan.
27:02That tells you that he's in tip-top shape.
27:05And he's here to win the fight.
27:07Big shot right there from Munguia.
27:11By the crowd on their feet, Tim.
27:14You see Munguia now trying to recharge.
27:17He feels that Bazinyan has recovered.
27:19He's not willing to take a chance.
27:21Nice counter left from Bazinyan.
27:23Bazinyan is saying he's here to fight.
27:25He's attempting to land something big on Munguia.
27:29And Munguia now needing to recover.
27:31He needs to recover, yes.
27:32After that salvo of punches.
27:34Oh, don't worry, he's gonna come back.
27:35Oh, right hand from Bazinyan.
27:37Yeah, Bazinyan woke up after those shots
27:39from Jaime Munguia hurt him.
27:41And now he's coming back with a one, two straight shots.
27:44Make it three.
27:45That shows you he's not here to lay down.
27:48He's here to win.
27:52Jaime Munguia backing Big Bear for this fight,
27:54but that jab came straight from Montreal
27:58and landed at its destination,
27:59right on the chin of Jaime Munguia.
28:01I thought it was a great response from Bazinyan.
28:04Great shot, but great, even greater response from Bazinyan.
28:09Now another left hook from Jaime Munguia.
28:13He says, you're not gonna steal this round from me.
28:17Great action.
28:19That's right.
28:21The fans are on their feet here.
28:24Armenians, Mexicans, and Tim,
28:26let's take a look at that combination from Munguia.
28:29Oh, yeah, starting off that jab.
28:31Oh, he kind of hesitated with that right hand.
28:33Shot the jab out there.
28:35Bing.
28:36Go ahead and take that.
28:37Right hand, turned it right over.
28:39Bazinyan was looking for the uppercut,
28:40had that lead hand down,
28:41and then slapped him with that hook.
28:44Beautiful shot right there.
28:45You can see he was buzzed.
28:46His legs locked up a little bit right there.
28:49But, man, that small little hesitation.
28:52No, no, no, next round.
28:55And here's the shot right here by Bazinyan.
28:57He rolled it a little bit right there.
28:59Good experience from Munguia.
29:02Saw the shot coming, deflected that shot,
29:04missed that shot.
29:05Nice follow-up right there from Bazinyan,
29:07but he rolled to take some of the steam off that punch.
29:10Tim, good stuff right there from Munguia.
29:12Impressed me the most.
29:13After the right hand from Jaime Munguia,
29:15he actually hit the glove of Bazinyan.
29:17Bazinyan hit his own face with that glove,
29:19so, I mean, as long as you're good,
29:21you hit your face.
29:22Yes.
29:24All right, round eight, scheduled for 12.
29:27Starting to heat up here in the Desert Diamond Arena.
29:31It's been 113 days, over 100 degrees out here.
29:35Finally, that was snapped on Tuesday,
29:38but the action is hot here inside the ring
29:42with Jaime Munguia and Eric Bazinyan in round eight.
29:45High-stakes fight, both ranked number two
29:48by different sanctioning bodies.
29:50Munguia, former champion, has been in against Canelo,
29:53but the dream is another title fight.
29:58Munguia looking to set up that left hook.
30:00That's what he wants, that left hook up top.
30:02He used that stab jab just a minute ago.
30:05That last round.
30:06Whoa, good right hand from Bazinyan, coming right back.
30:09Just standing his ground, standing in position,
30:11ready to strike.
30:12That's all he did.
30:13He didn't do anything special.
30:15And he allowed Munguia to walk into it.
30:21Nice body work from Munguia.
30:25This is high-level.
30:26It's a high-level chess match, yes.
30:28Yes, it is.
30:31The crowd chanting Munguia's name.
30:38Bazinyan may be alone in the ring,
30:40but he's all he needs right now.
30:44Ooh, nice right hand.
30:45And he kind of hesitated with that as well.
30:47It wasn't a one-two where it just comes out, boom, boom.
30:50It was like, boom, boom.
30:53He shot the jab out there.
30:54He shot the jab out there, located the head,
30:57then shot the right hand down.
30:58Tim, we talk about changing the pace.
31:00You can't become predictable.
31:01That's exactly what Bazinyan has been able to do here
31:04over the last two rounds.
31:06That's a nice jab.
31:07Keep Munguia off of him.
31:11But where Bazinyan,
31:14if he doesn't win this fight, he's gonna go back,
31:16and he's gonna be a little disappointed.
31:19Because, ooh, good right hand.
31:21And there comes the numbers from Munguia,
31:24as Bazinyan uses his legs to get out of the way.
31:26He hasn't invested anything in the body.
31:28How are you gonna slow this young bull down?
31:30You have to go down to that body.
31:32Oh, nice left-right combination.
31:33Finishes up with a third left hand.
31:38Munguia is gaining more and more steam
31:40as the rounds go on.
31:43And Bazinyan is losing some of the steam
31:45on those punches.
31:46It's different to him.
31:47But he's still letting them go, though.
31:48The lack of body work.
31:49Munguia still able to throw at full strength.
31:53Exactly.
31:54You go down to that body,
31:55you're gonna take some something away.
31:59Oh, he looked like it was on the belt line.
32:01Maybe a little straighter.
32:02Let it go.
32:03He didn't complain, though.
32:05Bazinyan didn't.
32:06I'm impressed by Bazinyan today.
32:08His resolve, his boxing skill.
32:10But you have to be that way if you win.
32:14Mark Ramsey's gym.
32:16He got killers in there.
32:17That's all he got.
32:18And Mark Ramsey wouldn't work with him
32:20if he didn't believe he had it within him.
32:22And he's let Munguia back in this fight.
32:33Are your eyes okay?
32:34Yeah, your eyes are perfect.
32:35You're fucking perfect.
32:37We apologize for the language here
32:38from Mark Ramsey, the trainer.
32:40Let's take a look at some of the great action
32:42from round 8.
32:43Oh, this is some good back-and-forth action right there.
32:45Nice little jab right there.
32:47Bazinyan was able to notice that Munguia
32:51wasn't set, and he said,
32:52go ahead and take that with you on your way out.
32:54Again, he rolled with that shot again.
33:00That's a different angle,
33:01up-top angle right there for you folks at home.
33:07Munguia right there, swivel jab,
33:09just changing levels, drop levels.
33:11Bazinyan hasn't figured out that level change yet.
33:13He stands straight up.
33:14He doesn't mirror the level change.
33:17You're supposed to drop levels
33:18when you see your opposition drop levels.
33:20You got to drop levels.
33:21Guess what?
33:22He's going to try to come up and sneak you.
33:24He's going to act like he's going downstairs.
33:26However, he's coming upstairs,
33:28and that's what you saw right there from Munguia.
33:30Tim, I said that Bazinyan let Munguia back in the fight.
33:34Mark Priegel, your scorecard through 8.
33:3676-76, four rounds apiece.
33:40This is a hell of a fight.
33:42I don't know many guys that could withstand
33:45what Jaime Munguia threw at Eric Bazinyan
33:48in the 7th round.
33:50You know, I thought of the change in the body shots
33:52in the 6th round, Munguia changed it,
33:54and then what Bazinyan showed coming back
33:56was really extraordinary.
33:57This is a great fight.
33:58Nice counter right hand.
33:59That countered that lead jab that time.
34:02Maziyan made the mistake, made the mistake,
34:06throwing that lazy jab from mid-range.
34:09Great timing and anticipation by Munguia.
34:11Tim, 45 landed body shots for Munguia
34:14compared to 9 for Bazinyan,
34:16and the odds, minus 1,000, Munguia,
34:19plus 600 on the ESPN VET live money line.
34:24And it started at minus 14 for Munguia,
34:26so the odds moving towards Bazinyan,
34:30who's competitive in this fight, as Mark alluded to.
34:3376-76 through 8 rounds.
34:36Never been 12, never been past 10,
34:38so that's going to be a crucial moment
34:40if we get to that point in the fight.
34:42And still looking fresh,
34:44has quickness in his hands
34:45as he lands on the body of Jaime Munguia.
34:48But it's jabs and straight shots,
34:50not those digging liver shots that we've seen from Munguia.
34:52Still inconsistent.
34:53He landed a right hand,
34:54and you can see what effect it had on Munguia,
34:57because Munguia now is moving,
34:58he's moving back, trying to catch his wind.
35:01That right hand had some effect,
35:03This is maybe a layoff round for Munguia.
35:08Yeah, and then you're going to get copped
35:10with one-twos by Bazinyan.
35:12No rest for the weary, says Eric Bazinyan,
35:15the unbeaten fighter.
35:17He's laying off this round.
35:19He's looking to catch his second wind
35:21in the 10th, 11th, and finish strong, possibly.
35:24We talked about him not having that wind,
35:27but he's got it.
35:28He's got it.
35:29He's got it.
35:30He's got it.
35:31We talked about him not having that wind.
35:33Oh!
35:34Both fighters land right hands.
35:37Yeah, those exchanges are dangerous, man.
35:39Those 50-50s, both men head is on the line,
35:42and they throw right hands at the same time.
35:44It's extremely dangerous.
35:45A lot of knockouts occur in mid-range with right hands,
35:48both men exchanging right hands.
35:50That was a nice stick from Munguia
35:52as Bazinyan landed a jab of his own.
35:54There's the body work from Munguia,
35:57the first warning for a borderline shot
36:00from referee Thomas Taylor.
36:05Straight right from Jaime Munguia,
36:07and he tried to steal a round.
36:09Yeah, he's trying to.
36:10He's attempting to steal a round,
36:11and he's bringing that pressure in.
36:12Bazinyan has went southpaw.
36:14Told you he had that in his bag of tricks.
36:16I don't know if that's a smart thing to do right now,
36:19but he's trying anything right now
36:22to offset Munguia in his approach.
36:26Punch behind the head from Jaime Munguia.
36:29That was a warning from Thomas Taylor.
36:319 rounds in,
36:33and this fight is competitive.
36:41Are you feeling good?
36:43We need to pressure this round.
36:49This fight is close.
36:52We're gonna pressure.
36:53Go to the body.
36:59We need to win these next three rounds.
37:0110, 11, 12.
37:04Take a look at when they both land
37:06to the right simultaneously, Tim.
37:07Yeah, again.
37:08Both 50-50 exchanges right here.
37:10You see Bazinyan gets off to a quick start.
37:13But they both throw a right hand at the same time.
37:16Bazinyan shoots that jab.
37:17He throws his right hand
37:18just slightly off the mark.
37:21It was actually his left that landed.
37:23Yeah, it would have been...
37:25It would have been more effective
37:27if he was able to land it flush.
37:28It didn't land that flush.
37:30Yeah.
37:31You know, on that chin.
37:32It's kind of a brazen blow.
37:34Good crowd here inside the Desert Diamond Arena.
37:37Didn't get full extension, Jaime Munguia.
37:39And then Bazinyan misses with the right
37:41and catches him with the left coming around.
37:43And you mentioned earlier on,
37:44there's the jab,
37:45but there's nothing coming behind it.
37:46Now Bazinyan has something behind it.
37:48Good.
37:50There's a nice right hand.
37:51Now digging to the body is Jaime Munguia.
37:53The instructions were given by Eric Morales.
37:56The legendary fighter who gave us that trilogy
37:59against Marco Antonio Barrera,
38:01a historic one.
38:02The first Mexican to beat Manny Pacquiao as well.
38:06And when that man talks, you listen.
38:08And that's exactly what Munguia's doing here
38:10in round 10.
38:12Yep, this is exactly what Munguia has to do.
38:15The key has always been to close the distance.
38:17Close the distance.
38:18He has to do it safely,
38:19because Bazinyan has to be respected.
38:22He's got heavy hands.
38:23However, he gets here,
38:24he's going to have his way.
38:25He's going to have his way.
38:26Yes, sir.
38:27Nice jab though from Bazinyan.
38:28As soon as the range changed,
38:30Bazinyan had success.
38:33Let's see if Bazinyan's going to set up a lateral trap.
38:35Let's see if he moves his feet,
38:36pick up his feet,
38:37have Munguia follow him,
38:38and then lay a trap on him
38:41as he's coming in.
38:43SportsCenter coming up immediately
38:45after our top rank on ESPN show.
38:51Eric, got to get those up a little bit.
38:54Nice combination from Munguia.
38:55Great response from Bazinyan.
38:57Yeah, I didn't know Bazinyan had that in him.
38:59Usually he just covers up.
39:00No, that was a nice catch and shoot
39:02coming right up the middle.
39:03Munguia, again, being more aggressive this round,
39:06listening to his trainer,
39:08as he should.
39:11Oh, nice.
39:12You see him how he set that up
39:13off that rotation,
39:14rolling underneath,
39:15putting all that weight onto his front leg
39:17to come with that left hook.
39:20Oh, that's a nice left.
39:21Upstairs, downstairs.
39:22Here comes the combination from Jaime Munguia.
39:25He's got Bazinyan on a defensive posture.
39:30The legs are not fully there
39:32for the fighter out of Canada.
39:34And Jaime Munguia is smelling blood.
39:38And when this shark smells blood,
39:40he goes for the finish,
39:41although that's a nice counter right from Bazinyan.
39:44Bazinyan right now,
39:45biting down, showing some grit right now.
39:47Got a little space,
39:48and now he's coming back with his offense.
39:51Oh, what a left hook!
39:52Bazinyan is really out on his feet
39:55as Jaime Munguia sees that,
39:57and he goes after him with 40 seconds left here
40:00in the 10th round.
40:01Left uppercut.
40:02Now he's cut, and he's down!
40:053, 4, 5, 6,
40:107, 8, 9.
40:13The fight is over.
40:14The fight is done!
40:16Jaime Munguia has done it!
40:18Jaime Munguia has done it!
40:20He's on the turnbuckle,
40:21because tonight he passed a huge test
40:25against Eric Bazinyan,
40:27who came in with resolve,
40:28who came in with skill,
40:30who came in with a plan,
40:31who came in with a jab.
40:33I was out with a beautiful shot
40:36that cut him and finished him.
40:43Mexico Lindo Querido is playing in the arena,
40:46and look at the celebration
40:47in the corner of Jaime Munguia.
40:50That is how you finish a fight.
40:53Cut over the right eye
40:55is Eric Bazinyan and Tim.
40:58What a performance.
41:00We asked,
41:01what did he learn from the Canelo loss?
41:04That's the answer.
41:06You're exactly right.
41:08He managed, again, his energy.
41:12He stepped on the gas at the right time.
41:16He pressed forward.
41:18When his trainer told him to press forward,
41:20he listened to him.
41:22And again, I told you,
41:24he had to cut the distance.
41:26That was the only way.
41:28And when he cut that distance,
41:29you saw how Bazinyan didn't like it.
41:31He did his best to try to keep his distance.
41:33However, that firepower,
41:35those combinations are lethal.
41:38And it's tough for anybody in his weight class
41:41to deal with that type of firepower.
41:44We're going to take a look at how it started.
41:46And then we're going to take a look
41:48at four shots of how it ended.
41:50This was a punch that hurt Bazinyan.
41:53Again, those level changes.
41:56Nice little level change
41:57to get himself on the inside.
41:59Here's the follow-up shot.
42:00Nice swivel jab following up
42:02with another jab in the right hand.
42:05He knew he had his man hurt right here.
42:07He felt him fading little by little each round.
42:11Bazinyan tries again
42:14to commit with some offense,
42:16but got caught in between.
42:18That nice little catch and shoot from Munguia
42:21caught him right on the money.
42:23Here it is on the inside.
42:24Bazinyan goes up.
42:25You see Munguia sitting down on that lead leg.
42:29Timed that left hook.
42:31Saw that opening.
42:33And this is the wrestler's history right here.
42:35He knew he had his man hurt,
42:37and he just knew he went for the finish,
42:39and that's all she wrote.
42:44I mean, Tim,
42:45to be able to cut a man with your fists,
42:48there's got to be something extra in those punches.
42:52He just walked him down
42:54and was relentless in his finish.
42:56What round is this?
42:57Ten.
42:58And he's still throwing combinations like that
43:00with power?
43:01I'm telling you.
43:03Munguia's something else.
43:06He's not one of those fighters
43:08that you can deter really easy.
43:09You can't deter him.
43:11He's going to take it,
43:13and he's also going to dish it.
43:15That's what makes him who he is.
43:17All right, let's send it up to Mark Shumud
43:19for the time of the stoppage.
