00:00been done on and the fact that they think they can make their adjustments, alterations, amendments to
00:07the wing and still stay competitive is the point that's why McLaren were happy to do that. Exactly,
00:13Lando Norris went fastest, Charles Leclerc has now gone ahead of him, Alex Alba is up there at the
00:17top of this. It's Sergio Perez crossing the line at the fifth exit so now the, oh I see he was
00:24trying to get out of the way wasn't he? Oh it was his fault. Aston Martin, well he's obliged to stay
00:29behind the Aston Martin but he came around the corner and it caught him by surprise. To keep
00:33you a cleaner run through that corner where it's risky if you get too close to the wall.
00:37That was a nice end to the lap for Albon and a really strong lap. Anyway in total, in total I'd
00:44say two tenths away from Leclerc, brilliant stuff and Filippino as well pops it into P3 for now.
00:50Right so Leclerc, Albon, medium tyres, Ricciardo goes fastest medium. It's more about the traffic
00:55that he had to deal with on the exit and there's an exit out of turn 13 for Albon. He's already
01:01gone two centimeters close to the wall, has he, has he reduced that in half? Well as
01:08as Juan Pablo Montoya once said, said nearly doesn't count. This is a circuit where you need to ride the
01:15kerbs, ride the bumps and it really does, I mean they've probably given you good downforce in other
01:21parts of the track. We'll wait and see if we get a merge. It looks like we're struggling with traction
01:24to 7, 8, 9, 13. Yeah I've got no rear end. Very supple indeed I must say. So the track is quite grippy
01:35like you say as what's this happened, just happened to Seffern running too wide there. Now he said
01:41Oh my god. Okay.
01:45I mean no harm done there but obviously in qualifying that would be a lap gone, all four
01:51wheels over the white line and also the penalty of not optimizing it anywhere near where you
01:57should be in terms of lap time. So that will be noted of course from from Sainz as what are we
02:02looking at here? Colopinto at 60 kilometers an hour. He's got the right garage? He hasn't got the right garage.
02:14To be fair that caught me out as well. Well I just think it's exactly the same color
02:19in the night. So what is that Alpine? It's Alpine in front. You gotta go look at the pink
02:23helmets. Yeah the pink helmets give it away. And the Jackman in front beckoning him on. No no go!
02:30And Charles Leclerc is going to cross the line. He crosses the line now. It was exactly four and a
02:35half seconds Hannah. It's a 1.31.6 and he's half a second clear of Alex Albon. It's a classic
02:42moment where understeer leads to oversteer. So as he exits the final corner does go fastest but only
02:48a tenth and a half faster than the Williams at all due to respect and also on top of that wasn't
02:52the best lap in the world from Albon. Piastri goes a little bit quicker than Russell but again
02:58but watch this lap. Lando Norris had gone purple for both sectors. Charles Leclerc has gone quicker
03:04in the first sector. Norris put seven tenths between himself and his teammate. He was expecting
03:10Carlos Sainz. We yet to see the the qualifying lap. Lewis Hamilton is all at sea behind the
03:18wheel. He's turning one way or another desperate to try and find some grip out there. He's sliding.
03:23He's correcting. That is not a good car. Yeah that was nearly in the wall that one. That was
03:28that was closer than what some people would imagine. That wasn't the wall. That wasn't. Yeah
03:31well just in a bid to try and use all the circuit. A little kiss of the wall there and
03:36now you've got to be careful because those concrete walls don't move. That's one way to
03:39straighten it up. Here is that moment. Watch the front left. Yeah it's a bit it's a gentle touch
03:48but still a touch and uh it's it's something that maybe a little bit a lapse of concentration.
03:56Just letting the car run out a bit. Well he did have a snap quite late on to be fair in the corner
03:59and uh yeah he you want to keep the momentum rather than pinching the car too tight and um
04:04yep we've seen quite a few cars get close there. On a hot lap zigzagging between two cars and uh
04:11I mean terrifying basically but it obviously looked clear to him. The other cars are trying
04:17to stay out of the way but so you rock up here with superb acceleration. I haven't seen anybody
04:22come through that out yet. Here comes the Sauber having a go and it's a minimum speed of just under
04:2890 miles an hour through there with a wall to greet you on the exit and the sort of it's an
04:34arrive and drive corner. You come right up against the wall literally just underneath.
04:40That's a P11.
04:44Deep-throated bellow. We we get obsessed about topics don't we and and as we look at a replay
04:51here from Pierre Gasly. Is this in traffic? It's a lot of traffic. Yes and oh yeah that's
04:56ah he's got the dust as well because of that. Was it Perez or? I think it was Perez. It was
05:01definitely a rebel. I remember him. Yeah what goes around comes around as they say and uh yeah they
05:09you don't want to take matters into your own hands. You'd prefer the stewards to get involved
05:13but uh yeah tensions rise of course but so we look at that lock up from uh from the Ferrari into
05:19that tricky turn 16 17 and science this time around. I was just going to say we get transfixed
05:25and the media get transfixed on one topic. That is that's the reason why. Let's take a look down
05:31at turn three. Watch as the wall comes ever closer to Lando Norris in the McLaren and watch as Lando
05:38Norris brushes the wall. Wow we saw the message didn't we saying we don't see any damage on the
05:43car via the data. So just put everything all done up on the screws uh back tight again and they're
05:50ready to do some uh Flobas uh testing on the rear wing as you can see if you can see a bin liner
05:55uh resting on the rear wing there you go they've got the uh the bin liner ready so they don't get
06:00all the uh Flobas paraffin paint on the garage floor. They're going to do that and then send
06:05the car out. Can I just show you the front wing as well where it says Aramco on this front wing
06:10that's brand new for this race it's a much higher incidence uh front wing much higher front angle
06:16uh front wing on there just to complement the increase on the rear wing angle as well to help
06:21balance out the car. Blue raspberry got into the wall George Russell. I was just gonna say
06:28it's not where he crashed last year in the race George Russell stopped at turn eight and that
06:33might be the end of the session unless he's kept the engine going and he can reverse back out again
06:39but every single car is on the track at the moment and actually finding some time to reverse is going
06:44to be a bit tricky. We do see this when the tires just give up one little mistake there there's
06:50absolutely no margin for error. Well just as we were talking about it wasn't it if you go too far
06:55off the line if you'd one little lock up and you get to that corner where we've seen a few cars
06:59run wide and down that escape road earlier on you just see to the top of your screen
07:03and tense faces at Mercedes because they can just see the lengthy repair job that's coming
07:09their way and hopefully that front left has survived here but it is just a front wing
07:14yeah the front wing is going to be left behind but that's a lock up that he has happened to him
07:20too late yeah in the corner and he hasn't had time to bail out of it now it's on the nose as well so
07:27I think the left front has survived it
07:31so right at the end of the session that front wing is going to need picking up and delivering
07:37back to the Mercedes garage and they'll try and salvage as much of it as they possibly can and
07:42George Russell is limping home and this is what caused it left hand turn at turn seven everything's
07:47fine up until now yeah just as I thought he's he's you know what he's actually done the right
07:54thing there just to straighten the car up and go in nose first yeah to minimize the damage
08:00snatch the front right
08:05the fastest lap times it was Lando Norris who had the quickest time from Charles Leclerc McLaren
08:10against Ferrari separated by 58 one thousandths of a second and they were well clear of the rest
08:17Carlos Sainz over six tenths back in third Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo separated by one
08:22hundredth of a second Oscar Piastri in the middle of the two RBs a very impressive one lap
08:28performance from the RB team George Russell seventh fastest ended in the wall eighth fastest Perez
08:34then Albon Hulkenberg Perez the leading Red Bull Max Verstappen 1.3 seconds near enough off the
08:41pace Fernando Alonso was 12th fastest Lance Stroll his teammate 14th and Magnussen was 13th whilst
08:47his teammate Hulkenberg was in the top 10 the Alpines will be disappointed to be down to 17th
08:52and 18th Joe Guan Yu finished ahead of Valtteri Bottas that is FP2 we'll see you back in the
08:59daylight for more action for FP3
