00:00And the third International Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fair opened its doors
00:05in Cuba at the Pabeto Fairgrounds, where hundreds of companies from more than half a dozen countries
00:11are participating in a biannual event. Fabiola López tells us more.
00:18It's a new opportunity to participate in Cuba's energy transition.
00:22Businessmen, investors and high-level experts exchange experiences and technological advances
00:27here. The contribution of the United Nations Development Programme to the island's energy
00:32transition was discussed with Telesur by its representative in Cuba.
00:37There are two lines of action for us. The first has to do mainly with access to energy for
00:42communities that live in remote places. In that line of action what we have been doing so far
00:47is installing solar panels that have benefited up to 3,000 families. The second line of action
00:53has fundamentally to do with access to energy from the point of view of innovative financing
00:57mechanisms. It is fundamental to see how we can offer the government different financing
01:02mechanisms that will eventually allow access to energy for large projects.
01:10Achieving 100% participation of clean energies in Cuba's energy matrix is more than a vision
01:16for the country, it is a goal. The Cuba Electronica Company, part of the Ministry of Industry,
01:21is presenting a project aimed at reducing energy consumption in Cuban homes at this fair.
01:30Such is the case of the rice cookers or cooking equipment used in Cuban homes.
01:39The use of fans in this case that work with photovoltaic panels,
01:43with energy independent of the industrial network and also air conditioners that are
01:47powered by photovoltaic panels.
01:55These air conditioners are inverter technology air conditioners and therefore
01:59also contribute to the efficient use of electricity.
02:02The private sector also has a prominent place in this professional platform with news and projects.
02:08The Cooperative of Non-Agricultural Production of Integral Services to Transport,
02:12Mining and Construction has as one of its main business lines the realization of projects,
02:17installation, commissioning and guarantee of photovoltaic systems and solar lights.
02:24The Cuban government is also working with the Ministry of Industry to develop
02:28commissioning and guarantee of photovoltaic systems and solar lights.
02:34We have in our catalogue more than 200 luminaires,
02:36ranging from the world of domestic luminaires for the home to industrial business establishments.
02:41For the future of Cuba this is very important and transcendental because it is another variant
02:45of taking advantage of the sun so intense that there is, that cannot be blocked, that is for
02:49everyone. And in the case of Cubans it is very important to be able to use it.
02:58For RENOVA, a private company dedicated to providing installation and maintenance
03:02services for wind and photovoltaic energy systems, the future is today.
03:07They provide technologies that contribute to energy efficiency,
03:10offer LED lighting and high-performance computer and communications equipment.
03:17Undoubtedly renewable energies are an alternative for the development of our country,
03:21a country that is hit by the energy crisis and this is a very important alternative.
03:28Solutions like the ones we present here are already being tested in different state
03:35and non-state actors with good results.
03:43The truth is that this is a path that must overcome technological and cultural challenges.
03:48The island's Minister of Energy and Mines warned that there can be no talk of development,
03:52of building a prosperous and sustainable socialism, of energy sovereignty and climate
03:57change mitigation, without the development of renewable energy sources.
