Video: Incredible Northern Ireland man with no hands builds Lego Titanic in 50 hours
A Portstewart Lego fanatic, who was born without hands or feet, has built the third largest Lego set ever produced – the Titanic.
Desmond James Calvert, 51, has gained international fame for his ability to construct Lego kits, a task which is even more impressive as he was born without limbs and has dyslexia.
Known as DJ The Lego Man, he has been mastering Lego since he was a child however building a replica of the famous Belfast’s ship by Harland & Wolff, which has 9090 individual pieces, was no easy task.
He explained: “I started on Thursday, August 22 and have been working at it every weekday for over 50 hours in total. I’m amazed at how quickly I got it finished in record time to be honest.
"I’ve really enjoyed building it but there were alot of fiddly bits which bad enough for people with finger but without it’s a nightmare. The stern was the last bit I did and the back end was the most difficult as it kept coming apart every time I moved it. But I got there in the end.
"It measures over 53 inches and the set is the third largest from Lego behind the Lego World Map and the Eiffel Tower and now it’s finished its even more impressive than I imagined.
"It’s a great replica of the legendary ship and the detail is amazing. I especially love the iconic four smoke stacks and engines which have moving parts. The interior of the rooms are good, and there’s even the grand staircase and a swimming pool.”
To date DJ has completed over 200 Lego models as his love for the hobby spans over four decades.
