00:00Expedite the repair of the sinkholes ahead of festive seasons to stem business losses.
00:07President of the Masjid India Business Association, Amir Ali Maidan, urged the authorities to
00:13complete repairs in three to four months as businesses along Jalan Masjid India have experienced
00:18up to an 80% decline in customers, made worse by the area being cordoned off for reconstruction.
00:25On August 23rd, Indian national Vijaya Lekshmi fell into a sinkhole outside the Malayan mansion,
00:31prompting a nine-day rescue operation that was halted on August 31st due to safety concerns
00:37after a second sinkhole was discovered nearby.
00:41Traders around the area say the reconstruction has tarnished the appeal of the area, once
00:45populated with tourists and locals alike.
00:55The sinkhole was so deep that it was difficult for people to pass through, and people thought
01:02that they couldn't enter Masjid India.
01:05Then I saw the holes, I saw the sinkhole, it was clear that Masjid India was not beautiful.
01:12If this thing doesn't happen, the authorities, the police, for example, will return Masjid
01:21Masjid India will be safe, only the areas that are still being repaired will be safe.
01:28But the road closure is the main problem.
01:31Because of the closure, people can't enter, cars can't pass.
01:37For some, the losses have become unbearable, desperately pleading with local representatives
01:42to help traders recoup damages from the incident and the reconstruction.
01:46Everyone around Masjid India is affected.
01:50If it's still 30%, we can still hold on.
01:55But now it's not even 5%.
01:58Sometimes people break their eggs, but they don't break their eggs for three days.
02:02We want to help, but we don't know who to help.
02:10There are no local representatives here.
