According to research, more than half of UK households now own an Airfryer. Ownership of the money-saving and time-saving devices has increased by 70% since 2022. And with it being heralded as the most popular kitchen gadget of 2023, it seems households are continuing their efforts to save energy and bypass the use of their oven. In light of a cost of living crisis, it’s reported that the money-saving elements of the device is appealing to Brits. In fact, according to research by Utilita Energy, airfryers run at an average cost of £55 a year, whilst a standard electric cooker runs at around £335 a year. Rebecca of @HealthyAirfryerRecipess told me a bit more about this topic.

00:00Nowadays, if you have an air fryer, you find that most people don't actually use the oven.
00:06I was speaking to my in-laws last night and they said to me that they only use their oven
00:10to cook things like pizzas or just things that you can't physically fit into the air
00:16fryer. So I think it's the healthier choices you can make, so you're not using oil, you're
00:23not sacrificing the taste.
00:26An air fryer itself is considered a healthier alternative to other fryers, using air to
00:30crisp food rather than oil. Another benefit is that the device takes less time to heat
00:35up, though some users complain that the devices cook slower than a traditional microwave and
00:40can take up even more counter space.
00:44I think one of my top tips would be to avoid overcrowding the basket, make sure that the
00:50food has space to crisp up and so that it cooks evenly. Another one is to shake it halfway
00:55through. That's the recommended tip from most of the air fryer companies, but I'm always
01:00in the kitchen, so I'll always just give it a quick shake and just make sure that it's
01:04fully cooked.
01:05Favourite recipes, I would say I quite like doing chicken fajitas because you can just
01:11chuck it all into the same little basket. You can do a whole chicken in the air fryer.
01:18I also like doing like fakeaways as well, so that's quite nice. They always turn out
01:22really well. And then I've also been experimenting with making desserts in the air fryer, which
01:27not a lot of people know that you can do.
01:31One thing that I found that I could cook really well in the air fryer but can't do in the
01:35oven is actually chicken. So for some reason, I can cook it perfectly in the air fryer but
01:41not in the oven. So I think it's just the ease and also the cost saving as well. Yeah,
01:48I think it just saves so much money in terms of food waste as well. So you're not kind
01:52of cooking too much. You're kind of just using what you need.
