Giant smoke cloud in the Russian town of Toropets after Ukrainian drone attack

Footage released on social media showed smoke rising from the town of Toropets in Russia’s Tver region on Wednesday (September 18) after a Ukrainian drone attack sparked fires and forced partial evacuation of residents, regional authorities said.

Reuters was able to confirm the location from hill, trees and island match satellite imagery and street view imagery. The date was verified by the governor’s statement. NASA FIRMS (NASA’s global fire tracking map) detected thermal activity in this area.
