00:00Almost 2,000 families have lost their homes due to the huge fire in Tondo, Manila this weekend.
00:07It is estimated that more than 2.5 million pesos were lost to the affected areas.
00:12This is Denise Osorio in Detaile.
00:17The fire started at 11.44 in the morning and spread quickly to the narrow area of Aroma Temporary Housing Site.
00:26The fire became more intense due to the strong wind that quickly hit 12 houses that were in the area of light materials
00:33and one house where the front was damaged.
00:37The Bureau of Fire Protection or BFP immediately responded
00:41and raised the alarm to Task Force Alpha at 12.24 in the afternoon
00:46and later to Task Force Bravo at 1.33 in the afternoon.
00:50More than 40 firetrucks from Manila and nearby districts helped the Philippine Air Force
00:57that deployed a helicopter with a bambi bucket to help with extinguishing the fire.
01:04Despite their efforts, the fire was declared under control.
01:09The fire caused heavy traffic congestion, especially in Road 10 and nearby areas.
01:17Based on initial findings, it is estimated that more than 1,687 families
01:22and possibly more than 2,000 families or more than 5,000 people lost their homes
01:30that are estimated to be worth more than 2.5 million pesos.
01:35According to Barangay Kagawad Marlene Tumboco,
01:38it will take at least a week for the coals in the area to be completely removed
01:45and the area will be made safe for the residents to return
01:49where the families will be equally distributed.
01:54We here in the barangay, we are the barangay officials,
01:57we help each other when there is a situation like that.
02:00We help each other, we go to them, we go to their houses, we help the firefighters.
02:05Seven residents were injured, but fortunately,
02:10no one was injured and no one was lost,
02:14although some families were separated because they were placed in different evacuation centers.
02:20Agnes Villanueva and her family
02:23have yet to think of how they will be able to recover from the heat of the fire.
02:28We don't know how we will start again with the coal that was given to us.
02:32All of it, all of it, nothing.
02:35This is the only way we will be able to recover.
02:38Evacuation centers were set up in Barangay 105 and 106
02:42and in Vicente Lim Elementary School
02:45to provide temporary housing and basic necessities to families who lost their homes.
02:51Mayor Honey Lacuna and Vice Mayor Yul Servo also visited
02:56while many local governments, including Bacoor City,
03:00provided relief supplies and clean drinking water
03:06from the Department of Social Welfare and Development,
03:09which is called upon by Barangay 105 Chairman Elenita Reyes.
03:13The affected residents were also with the administration
03:17to help them recover and rebuild their lives.
03:22Of course, we ask for help from our President
03:24because we know that place is not for us, it's not for them.
03:29That is why I am asking our President,
03:32I am asking him to help us provide housing to our residents.
03:37Meanwhile, as part of the community's cooperation,
03:40some residents came from other nearby barangays
03:44to ride motorcycles and tricycles
03:47to provide food to those who lost their homes.
03:50At the moment, the BFP is still investigating the cause of the fire.
