US voters react to Pope's election advice
US voters, especially those within the Catholic community, on September 14 reflected on Pope Francis' recent election advice. The pontiff has urged Catholics to choose the 'lesser evil' in the forthcoming election.
Voters visiting New York City's St. Patrick Cathedral voiced their opinion after the religious leader on Friday criticized both former US President Donald Trump over his plan to deport millions of immigrants and Vice President Kamala Harris over her stance supporting abortion rights.
Asked about the US presidential election on his flight back to Rome from Singapore, the pope said not welcoming migrants is a "grave" sin, and likened having an abortion to an "assassination." He said US Catholics would have to "choose the lesser evil" when they vote in November, without elaborating.

00:00In my estimation, I can only vote for the person who has the most qualities or characteristics
00:10of principle that I can rely on, in which case, the lesser of two evils is kind of a
00:15compromise.
00:16The whole idea of the lesser of two evils is almost to say that there are two evils.
00:22I'm not sure that there are.
00:26That kind of surprised, it really surprises me that he would see it that way.
00:30I agree with his assessment.
00:31Our current election, we have two candidates.
00:35They're both not great.
00:36No matter which, whatever divides your side you're on, neither one is the best representative
00:41of that party or that position.
00:42So lesser of two evils, whichever one you vote for, you are going to, in your mind,
00:46no matter if you think they're great, it's still probably going to be the lesser of two
00:50terrible choices.
00:51I have always appreciated the Pope.
00:54I love what he stands for.
00:55I love what he's done.
00:58But again, I don't know when life begins.
01:01I'm not sure if most of us do know when life begins.
01:07I'm going to have to leave that to the scientific community.
01:11At some point, maybe this will become clearer to us.
01:16But withholding health care from people that are in dire straits with the women, and I
01:23certainly don't know all the details.
01:25My daughter is a physician.
01:28I'm not.
01:29I will leave it to those people that specialize in those areas.
01:33I'm not a person who likes the idea of choosing any evils.
01:36So I personally am probably not going to vote this time because I am tired of aligning to
01:42what I feel is evil.
01:44And so for me, I do agree.
01:46I think they're both pretty bad, bad choices in my mind.
01:51So yeah, that's where I'm at right now with all of this, is that I'm aligning to this
01:54new idea that I don't want to align to a candidate that is the lesser of two evils.
02:01I'm tired of voting for evil.
02:04We listen to the Pope, but I don't think we should just follow whatever he says.
02:10I really strongly believe that the freedom of each person, especially with voting, is
02:18very important, and we have to be wise about it.
02:22We have to educate ourselves about these candidates.
02:25We have to get to know more about them before voting.
02:29It's not about what the Pope says.
