00:00All right, you ready?
00:26All right guys, I think this is our spot.
00:49First things first, I need two good trees.
01:05That's pretty neat.
01:12Dad, Dad, I have many trees.
01:34Get them, get them.
01:56Yeah.
02:06Well, it took a while, but I finally got my Japanese knife fixed.
02:10Got the tip repaired.
02:12It's a wonderful knife.
02:14Sharkskin handle.
02:15I got it as a gift from a friend in Japan.
02:28There we go.
02:46There we go.
02:53All fixed up.
03:00There we go.
03:15There we go.
03:43There we go.
04:11There we go.
04:40There we go.
05:00There we go.
05:23There we go.
05:52There we go.
06:06There we go.
06:35There we go.
06:40We got to take a little break.
06:41We got a cold foot emergency.
06:43This one's still cold?
06:45Okay.
06:48Oh, they feeling warm now?
06:52Try putting your boot back on and see if it's warm, okay?
06:56Okay.
06:57How's that?
06:58Are your toes feeling warm?
06:59Yeah.
07:01Good.
07:26Hey, take it out, Dink.
07:28Time to get a bed.
07:31Well, I got the bed made.
07:32I'm really happy with it, but I think I need to make some adjustments to my design.
07:36I'm running out of time.
07:38I need to get this done a lot quicker.
07:58Okay.
08:27There we go.
08:57Oh, is that wet?
09:01It's over here, bud.
09:31Sorry, we're getting em on five.
09:43Five.
09:47Five.
09:50We've got another cold foot emergency.
09:52Are your feet cold?
09:53Yeah.
09:55Do you want to see my secret to warming up feet?
09:56Yeah.
09:57Tickle, tickle, tickle.
09:58Tickle, tickle, tickle.
09:59diggle diggle you feeling better bud?
10:22Got a lot of wood that's covered in ice and snow so what we're gonna do is we're
10:27gonna lean it against here and let it dry out. Oh it feels good to sit down I'm
10:34exhausted I was just working as fast as I could try to get this done before the
10:38sunset we barely made it. Looks like Jacob's tuckered out too because he's
10:42falling asleep on his caribou hide. Good for him he needs his rest. Let me show
10:47you this cot I made. It's pretty cool. It's just basically a tarp that's wrapped
10:53twice around two logs and down inside here I've got my air mattress. That log
10:58is lashed to the tree and this log is just resting on this diagonal member.
11:02Because it's angled out this way the more the log is pushed down this way the
11:07more it's pushed out this way and that meets resistance against the tarp and
11:11the tarp prevents that. So that's how it keeps it off the ground. All you need is
11:15to lash that and lash that and you're done. If you don't want to use trees you
11:19can lash together two tripods and run all three of your cross members in
11:23between the two tripods. The nice thing about this is you don't need a lot of
11:26paracord maybe 15-20 feet of paracord is plenty to make all of these lashings.
11:30All right let's go check the temperature outside. Looks like it's about 17 degrees
11:37out here. Let's take this inside see what the difference is. We're gonna put this
11:42right up here by the bed. Check it out it's about 43 degrees here in the
11:47shelter so that means it's about 26 degrees warmer in the shelter versus
11:52outside. So that's really a big difference. Down here underneath the cot
11:56it's about 38 degrees so almost 10 degrees cooler. Getting yourself off the
12:00ground even a few inches makes a huge difference. You get a lot more of the
12:04heat from the fire and you don't have to sleep on the ice and the frozen ground.
12:08All right I gotta get some dinner ready for Jacob here. A little bit of butter
12:15and garlic paste in here. We're gonna try to melt this butter without melting
12:19my Tupperware. Got some king crab claws there. They're all pre-cooked so all you
12:31got to do is warm them up on the fire.
12:41Salt, pepper, garlic powder.
13:01Jake, Jake, Jake, Jake, Jake, Jake. Wake up Jake. Jacob, wake up. Hey Jake, wake up.
13:15We got dinner. Jacob, wake up. Wake up Jacob, wake up.
13:31Mmm. Oh that's good.
13:36Look at that. That is a chunk of meat right there.
13:45Hey buddy, want some steak? You know it's a good steak when you don't need to cut
13:51it up. You can just bite into it like an apple. Look at that. It's a huge isn't it?
13:59Oh they get like bigger than this. I love how the little thumb meat out of a king
14:03crab is bigger than most lumps out of blue crab. Look at that. Now that's a big
14:10chunk of meat. You want to bite? No. Oh it's so greasy. I love it.
14:29That tastes like brains. That tastes like brains? I mean the soaking. That warm you up? Yeah, throw the mud on God.
14:51Hey Jacob, do you want to roast marshmallows? Yeah, yeah. All right, I got a marshmallow stick.
14:58There's your stick. Got it? Is that marshmallow good? Yeah. You tired? You want to get into bed?
15:11No, no, no. The story isn't finished yet. Oh, you got to tell me more story. Okay.
15:15Back in the ocean and the guys went back. Yeah, you want a body warmer? Okay.
15:22These are the adhesive body warmers. They're absolutely wonderful. Stick these
15:26to your undergarments when you go inside your sleeping bag. You'll be warm
15:29all night. Get in there. Hey Jake, are you warm? Yeah. Here, there's your blankie.
15:40Scoot over, buddy. Make room for dad. All right, bud, you want to watch a movie
15:44together?
15:48All right, now they got Jacob down. I need to get even more firewood. It's gonna
15:53take a bit. It's about a quarter eleven and Jake's sound asleep in my bed and I
16:15kind of need that bed myself. I was going to make a bed for Jake, but we kind of
16:20ran out of time, so I'm gonna improvise something.
16:50I should be pretty comfy and he can't roll out. I'm sitting here drying my socks off. I can hear
17:08three owls having a hoot off. Yeah, yeah, they're going bonkers.
17:21We weren't supposed to get any snow last night, but it's 7 a.m. and there's a fair
17:44amount of snow here. Look at this. Look at Jake's bag.
18:14Warm, thick slab bacon on a cold morning. It's not too bad.
18:31Well, it's about 930 in the morning and we're just watching the sun slowly come
18:35up. We're just kind of packing up and eating breakfast, taking it easy. Now we
18:39got the place cleaned up a little bit, let's get Jacob out of here.
19:09Well guys, we got about an inch and a half of snow last night and the shelter
19:33held up really well. I slept better last night than I have in a long time. It was
19:37really comfortable on that cot, but I've got so many plans for this shelter that
