00:00Family, friends and fans have gathered in Melbourne to farewell music icon Judith Durham
00:05at a state memorial service.
00:07Best known as the lead singer of The Seekers, it was an opportunity for Victorians to honour
00:12and celebrate her life.
00:14Born in Essendon in 1943, Judith Durham went on to achieve great success, both as a New
00:29Zealand artist and as part of The Seekers, the first Australian pop music group to have
00:36a top five hit in Australia, the UK and US.
00:40Awarded numerous accolades over the years, Judith was recognised with an Officer of the
00:45Order of Australia in 2014 and in 2015 was appointed Victorian of the Year.
00:52And I'm sure I'm not the first nor will I be the last to say of Judith Durham that here
00:58in Victoria, in Australia and in the wider world of music, the feeling is that we'll
01:05never find another you.
01:07The service featured a host of musical acts from artists such as David Campbell, Dami
01:12Im and The Wiggles, Judith's sister Beverly recalling their shared love of music before
01:18performing the Jelly Bean Blues.
01:33Her nephew Tony Sheehan spoke on behalf of the family, describing Judith as a faultlessly
01:39generous soul with the divine singing voice of a generation.
01:44I think everyone who knew her would agree that after talking to Judith, they would somehow
01:48feel better about themselves, more confident, more positive, just happier.
01:54The evening concluded with a special tribute from fellow Seekers Athol Guy, Keith Podker
02:00and Bruce Woodley, revealing they had recently unearthed a song they hadn't finished as a
02:05group track until now.
02:08So this song is now our collective gift to share with you tonight as we celebrate Judith's
02:13magnificent gifts to us all.
02:16May it carry her safely on the rest of her journey to a welcome and a reward for all
02:22she's cared for and inspired throughout her life.
02:27Here's our last song together, Carry Me.
