00:00Alright, in a career spanning more than 50 years, Judith Durham has had her fair share of amazing moments.
00:06Performing with The Seekers, she was the voice of one of Australia's most successful and timeless bands.
00:12And she's not done yet, this morning Judith became just the second inductee to the Australian Women in Music's honour roll.
00:19And following the news, Weekend Sunrise caught up with the living legend for this exclusive chat.
00:2550 million records, countless sold out tours and now a special place on the honour roll.
00:31This means the world to me, I cannot believe this is happening.
00:35I'm very glad that it's happening in my lifetime, you can imagine.
00:39That's what's the thrill because I've had so many near death experiences.
00:44It was 1962, Judith Durham linked up with Athol Guy, Bruce Woodley and Keith Potka to join The Seekers.
00:51And the band quickly became the name on everyone's lips.
01:01Destiny took them to international stardom.
01:04In 1966, Georgie Girl became their biggest hit, reaching number two in the US.
01:10With more than 50 years in the industry, The Seekers singers still has some unfinished projects sitting in the drawers at home.
01:28Look I've got a musical in the bottom drawer, which has been for a while.
01:32That's called Gotta Be Rainbows.
01:34The Australian City Suite of course, all the songs were written for the Australian capital cities.
01:39There's a little children's song.
01:41Oh look, there's just so much.
01:43The curtain, however, has come down on her performing career.
01:47I won't be touring, I have to mention that to you, because I'm sure people are wondering.
01:51My last tour was in New Zealand, I did a solo tour, which was so amazing.
01:56And I was very, very thrilled to be taken over there.
01:59So that would have been the last time.
02:01But since then, I think that the things are pointing me in other directions.
02:05This morning, Judith Durham is the second inductee into the Australian Women in Music Honor Roll.
02:11I'm just so grateful to have the opportunity to understand that I've been abused in the music world for so long as it turns out.
02:20She follows the woman responsible for one of the all-time great female anthems, Helen Reddy.
02:25To be honest, she inspired me to understand more about women empowering women.
02:32I wasn't really into that side of things, so she enlightened me because of the song that she wrote.
02:45The induction takes place at the Australian Women in Music Awards in Brisbane on October the 8th.
02:50I want everybody to realise they should sing as much as they can, keep uplifting music in their hearts all day long.
02:59It's where the music of Judith Durham will continue to inspire our next generation of international stars.
03:06Love Judith. What a star.
03:08Isn't she fantastic?
03:09The Seekers have been such a part of the Australian soundtrack, haven't they?
03:12Especially for Simon.
03:13Well, exactly. I was there. I was there to hear it all.
03:16In the morning, we used to go to the beach with Dad. Dad would have the ABC on in Perth.
03:22And the Seekers would play, I don't know, every second day.
03:26We knew them all.
03:28I think we're listening to the same radio station.
03:30Alright, it is time for the rest of the day's pop news now.
