00:00The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards have come and gone, and while some stars wowed the world
00:06on the red carpet, some fell flat on their faces.
00:10It seems that DJ Khaled misunderstood the dress code for the Video Music Awards.
00:14By the look of his matching Bottega Veneta set, it appears that he thought his ensemble
00:18should be inspired by his favorite item in his bathroom.
00:21And when he couldn't decide between his bath mat and his bottle of Pepto-Bismol, he went
00:25with something that honored both.
00:27While the vibe of this easy-breezy two-piece set might have worked in theory, the color
00:31and texture of the fabric fell far short of perfection.
00:35You've gotta hand it to Karol G.
00:36If you're desperate for people to leave fire emojis on your outfit Instagram post, this
00:40is probably the best way of going about it.
00:43"'This is about fire, Latina community has fire everywhere, everywhere we go we just
00:48let fire."
00:49Karol G.'s lovely hair and makeup would have looked so much better with a simpler ensemble,
00:53however, and the fire-inspired dress just didn't work.
00:56The colors, the cartoonish flames, and worst of all, the collar.
01:00It's difficult to know what exactly this dress was going for, but whatever it was, it was
01:04a flop.
01:05Plenty of stars went for lingerie-inspired looks on the VMAs red carpet, and country
01:09legend Miranda Lambert was no different.
01:12Her execution, however, was way off.
01:14Lambert took a simple black suit and basically jazzed the top half up about as much as possible.
01:19The intricate turquoise collar with turquoise jewelry seemed over-the-top enough, yet she
01:23also put her turquoise-bejeweled bra on display underneath the jacket.
01:27The pants also seemed to have a strange fit, looking overly baggy at the bottom and making
01:32this look a head-to-toe miss.
01:34Clearly, Chanel West Coast was also hoping to rock a lingerie-inspired look.
01:39Sadly, it just didn't work out.
01:40The top of this dress is bad enough, but the bottom is somehow even worse.
01:44It looks like broken chain mail hanging from a collection of pipe cleaners.
01:48Unfortunately, there's no salvaging this one, and so it must go back to the community theater
01:52costume closet from whence it came.
01:55TikTok star Eli Rallo's book I Didn't Know I Needed This was released last year.
01:59However, there are seemingly some things Rallo still doesn't know she needs, like an entirely
02:04new dress for the VMAs, for example.
02:06This look had far too many things going on to begin with, since the top and bottom of
02:09the gown felt like two entirely different dresses.
02:12Her styling made it even more confusing.
02:14Both the sleek, half-up hair and the glitzy shoes had two totally different vibes than
02:19the dress itself.
02:20Benson Boone proved that revealing outfits weren't just for the ladies on this year's
02:24VMAs red carpet.
02:26The shirt likely would have worked great as a layering piece, especially if left untucked
02:30with different pants.
02:31Ooh!
02:32Sparkly boots.
02:33Bam!
02:35The styling, however, just didn't feel right.
02:39When paired with glittering silver shoes, it was honestly hard to see what Boone's vision
02:42may have been.
02:44It seems that Halsey heard the song, Lady in Red, and decided to re-imagine it as a
02:48horror movie.
02:49Thanks to this Versace gown, she'll be playing the lead role.
02:52Apparently, a big, red cheetah print isn't statement-making enough, so the dress is also
02:57sheer and has confusing stripes of glitter.
03:00Of course, the fire engine red hair made this look even worse.
03:04TikToker Samantha Mowry has built a following for her love of all things Y2K-inspired.
03:08Outside of that context, though, her VMA look looked like a repurposed prom dress gone wrong.
03:14Between the print, colors, and a hemline, this dress had too many distracting elements.
03:18Still, like so many questionable frocks, with the right styling, Mowry likely could
03:22have pulled this dress off.
03:24Her long, wavy hair and tiny gold shoulder bag, however, were definitely not right for
03:28this fit.
03:30Unlike her song, Addison Rae's VMAs look was not to die for.
03:34In fact, it looked equal parts bride, ballerina, and mid-70s lingerie model.
03:39Sure, you've got to commend her confidence in hitting the red carpet wearing what basically
03:43amounts to her underwear, but that doesn't outweigh the bad fashion at play.
03:46Why the half tutu?
03:48Why the classic David's Bridal Shoes?
03:50Most importantly, why the strange bra shape?
03:53These questions are sure to haunt us all for VMAs to come.
03:57While Addison Rae had one of the most peculiar ensembles at the VMAs, when it came to showing
04:01off her undies on the red carpet, she had plenty of company.
04:05A bold move such as this can work as a fashion statement.
04:10However, Tate McRae's lacy, see-through midi dress did not.
04:13Pop on a black headband with some triangular ears, and McRae would fit right in as a cat
04:18at a frat party on Halloweekend.
04:20For the VMAs, this simply didn't work.
04:23Since the Olympics, Jordan Chiles has proven that she stuns on and off the gymnastics mat,
04:27but on the VMAs red carpet, she left us confused more than anything else.
04:32Elements of this dress's unique silhouette were interesting, but it was outweighed by
04:36the overenthusiastic detailing.
04:38The sheen of the silver fabric, the long gloves and high neck, the uneven hem, the red, black,
04:43and white stripes, and the over-the-knee socks, it's major sensory overload.
04:48A shortened, even hemline with no gloves or socks could have been a cool and unique look,
04:53but this version is just too much.
04:55Suki Waterhouse often channels vintage glam vibes, and she seemed to be going for this
05:00on the VMAs red carpet, too.
05:02Unfortunately, she didn't pull it off as easily as she usually does.
05:05Everything about this look just felt a little bit off.
05:08The dress looks baggy and wrinkly, and the boa-esque bolero top didn't pair well with
05:12it at all.
05:13Furthermore, Waterhouse styled it with black pumps fit for a business meeting.
05:18No one needs to ask Teddy Swims what his favorite Taylor Swift album is after this red carpet
05:22look.
05:23It's clearly the tortured poet's department.
05:25While the star looks like he took a page from Taylor's book-inspired era's tour dress, it
05:29just doesn't work quite as well in trench coat form.
05:32In reality, though, it was the all-white look, layers of jewelry, and red sunglasses that
05:36really made this coat feel too much.
05:39It would've felt much fresher paired with more pared-down elements.
