00:00To me, I looked at this game, and I got to say this, I was, for me personally, I was
00:05disappointed in Derrick Stingley.
00:09I think he's got great player written over him, all over him.
00:13We talked about it.
00:14We saw Patrick Sertain set the new market for corners.
00:17We feel like that Derrick Stingley will go through that along with him and Sauce Gardner.
00:24And as you said, he's got a chance to be the best corner in the league.
00:27He's got that kind of skill set.
00:29I was disappointed in the big play he did give up and the potential other big play that
00:35he could have given up that the quarterback and the receiver just weren't able to connect
00:40on.
00:41So I was a bit disappointed in him.
00:42And I don't know, maybe I'm over, I was over expecting things for some of the other headliners
00:50on this defense, like Daniil Hunter and Will Anderson Jr., especially those two.
00:57Those three feel like the big, especially with Christian Harris out.
01:02Those three feel like the big, big names in, and I just don't think they impacted the game
01:07the way that I was hoping that they would impact.
01:11Well, look, I think there was limited opportunity because of how few plays they ran, first and
01:15foremost.
01:16But I like where you start the conversation with Stingley, right?
01:19Because I give grace when a guy throws the ball 68 yards in the air, but the reality
01:25of it is, because I'm seeing that more, because that was a quarters coverage of that side.
01:31They bracketed him and it was a post.
01:33And so it looks like it's more on Jimmy Ward because Jimmy Ward's inside and Derrick's
01:41outside, right?
01:42But in reality, we're talking about a top-notch, potentially the best corner in the league
01:47type of skill set.
01:50He's outside looking in, so he should have seen the ball all the way.
01:54He should have knew the ball was coming.
01:57And the expectations for us, for him, from us, are that Alec Pierce doesn't go out there
02:04and make plays on him.
02:06Not like that.
02:07And so I think if you look at it through the lens of Derrick Stingley Jr. and you just
02:13simply ask, quarters coverage, outside technique, eyes inside, you're soft, and a post gets
02:21thrown over the top of your inside safety.
02:23That was in the air for 10 seconds, it felt like.
02:27Would you like to see Derrick Stingley get over the top, have the skill and ball skills
02:35to go either break that up or make that catch?
02:42I could see that.
02:43I could see the expectation that, I mean, that's not Mike Evans.
02:49That ball was in the air a really long time.
02:51Alec Pierce.
02:52Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
02:53So, yeah, and then the double move that would have been six, if you got beat there, there's
02:57another one.
02:59Other than that, there wasn't very many opportunities for him to make plays, if we're being honest.
03:03For him, those are big ones that jump out.
03:07It's just like, you know what, it's just like CJ Stroud.
03:10CJ Stroud underthrew the ball to Nico Collins that Nico caught.
03:14CJ Stroud underthrew a ball that got broken up by an underneath defender that would have
03:17been a touchdown for Tank Dale.
03:19If that's a middle-of-the-road quarterback out there.
03:23Yeah, like Kamari Lassiter, I expected he might get got on a double move or somebody
03:29may run past him.
03:32That one, all right, man, it's your first game.
03:34You're out here.
03:35You're being aggressive.
03:36I could see that.
03:37Hadn't been tested a lot downfield, I could see that, but I got higher expectations.
03:42I understand there are some people texting in, they were containing and letting the inside
03:49guys get pressure, but listen, I'm not saying the guys played a bad game, but Daniil Hunter
03:55and Will Anderson Jr. are, Daniil Hunter is a top elite pass rusher in the league, and
04:04these were not great tackles he was going up against.
04:07I had the expectation that he impacted, yes, it doesn't have to always be sacks, but I
04:12had the expectation that he impacts the passing game more.
04:16Will Anderson, I'll give a bit of a pass to him because he hasn't been playing and practicing
04:21enough, but we've had this time and time again.
04:25His job is to set the edge, but if he's just an edge setter, that ain't enough.
04:31We know what the expectation is that he gets pressure on the quarterback.
04:38Listen, it's just game one.
04:39I believe these guys, I mean, for the most part, these guys have shown a certain level
04:44in a track record, especially Daniil Hunter, that they'll be there, it's just, I expect
04:51for those guys to have a certain level of impact, and they just win the colt at the
04:56ball, just not as much.
04:58No, look, I think that's fair.
04:59I don't think it's, I mean, look, when it's all said and done, you've got Will Anderson,
05:06you've got Daniil Hunter, you've got Derek Stingley, you can throw Aziz Al-Shayan there
05:13if you'd like to.
05:14But I think those three players that I mentioned at the beginning, when you turn a Texans game
05:17on defensively, at some point in time, and more times than not, we will, but we didn't
05:25see those guys just flash and make big time game changing impact plays.
05:29We didn't.
05:30And I think if you just look, like when I'm watching All-22 tonight, Daniil Hunter did
05:35work.
05:36Daniil Hunter was a problem.
05:38I would imagine Will Anderson was too, don't know yet, but Daniil Hunter was.
05:41Did he ever get home?
05:42No, he didn't.
05:43You know, hell, on the play where he got pressure and really impacted the quarterback, he threw
05:48a 70-yard touchdown pass.
05:50So, I mean, I don't think it's wrong.
05:53I mean, the reality of it is, I watched that entire game, and we didn't see a sack, we
05:59didn't see a sack fumble.
06:01We didn't see one of those that's like-
06:02Like I said, they didn't play terrible.
06:05Yes, I'm not saying they didn't get any pressures, especially those two up front.
06:09But like, for instance, and I'm going to compare them to, especially Daniil Hunter, these class,
06:15like Chris Jones was going up against an elusive quarterback.
06:22You saw how much he impacted that game.
06:24You don't walk away from the game thinking, oh, well, man, I think I may remember a play
06:30that caused a sack fumble and had pressure all game long on Lamar, who you don't want
06:34to let get out of the pocket, just like an Anthony Richardson.
06:39And I mean, that's kind of, especially with Daniil Hunter, and the hope is that Will Anderson
06:43gets there.
06:45That's one thing.
06:46There's no argument with Derrick Stingley, and Derrick Stingley just got burned twice.
06:51I mean, that one can't happen, all right?
06:55They're probably sending a little help over there towards Lasseter's side.
06:58You can't just get burnt on the outside by a rookie like that.
07:03So not expecting that that will happen every week, but that was disappointing.
