00:00At least 38 residents of this apartment building heard her screams and did nothing.
00:04Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're looking at the most shocking crimes that fell on Friday the 13th.
00:10I can't believe it. Everybody's in shock.
00:12We're leaving off the murder of Tupac Shakur because while the legendary rapper died on
00:17Friday the 13th, the shooting itself took place days earlier.
00:20The Mummy Marauder Robbery. Jason isn't the only one who hides their face on Friday the 13th.
00:26While this criminal didn't harm anyone like Mr. Voorhees, they still committed a serious felony.
00:33On September 13th, 2019, a First Convenience Bank in a Harris, Texas grocery store was held up.
00:39Surveillance photos from the bank near Houston show the suspect standing at a teller window
00:44on Friday the 13th.
00:45The culprit? Somebody hidden behind sunglasses, a wig, a baseball cap, and, most distinctly,
00:51white gauze, giving them the appearance of a mummy.
00:54Although difficult to identify, the so-called Mummy Marauder was described as a 5-foot-11,
01:0020-something black man who drove a Mitsubishi Montero SUV.
01:04The FBI offered a $5,000 reward for more information.
01:07The FBI is now asking the public for any leads so they can nab the Mummy Marauder
01:11and keep him wrapped up behind bars.
01:13FBI spokesperson Connor Hagan couldn't resist saying,
01:17We are hoping to wrap this case up quickly."
01:21Although the Mummy Marauder is seemingly still at large.
01:25Christopher Wilder's Last Stand
01:27Christopher Bernard Wilder's heinous crimes weren't restricted to one date or even one location.
01:32He clubbed her on the back of her head.
01:37Everything just went whack.
01:40Throughout six months in 1984, this Australian-American serial killer
01:44traveled from Florida to several other states.
01:46Along the way, he murdered at least eight women and abducted at least four more,
01:51in addition to several attempted kidnappings.
01:53He was also a suspect in the unresolved Wanda Beach murders.
02:05Wilder's final crime would be resisting arrest during a shootout with the police on April 13,
02:101984.
02:12Spotted by two state troopers in New Hampshire,
02:14Wilder reached for a Colt Python in his car.
02:17A struggle transpired, with Wilder being fatally shot twice.
02:23One of the troopers, Leo Jellison, was also hit, but made a full recovery.
02:30In addition to slasher villains, the 80s saw the rise of cybercrimes.
02:35In October 1987, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem detected a computer virus
02:40that would officially be called Jerusalem.
02:42This virus infects both .com and .exe files.
02:46Since the virus was first activated on May 13, 1988, though,
02:50the Friday the 13th virus became a popular nickname.
02:53This was notably just one day before the anniversary of Israel's establishment.
02:58Now this will increase and increase until eventually the program becomes too large to
03:01fit in memory and will crash when you attempt to run it.
03:04It wouldn't be the last time a virus spread coincided with Friday the 13th.
03:09On January 13th of the following year,
03:12another virus affected hundreds of personal computers across the UK.
03:16It remains unclear if these viruses were connected and exactly who was behind them.
03:21And there are many, many variants of Jerusalem that I'll be taking a look at in the future.
03:24All we know is that Friday the 13th must be a busy day for tech support.
03:29Marie Anstey Vanishes
03:31On March 13th, 1970, Marie Anstey disappeared in Vallejo, California,
03:36presumably being kidnapped.
03:38He's coming towards us.
03:40About a week later, Anstey's nude body was discovered in Lake County hidden in a bush.
03:44A scalp wound suggested that the young woman had been beaten and drowned.
03:48Experts determined that she had been dead anywhere between five and seven days.
03:53While Anstey's murder was never solved, some suspected the Zodiac killer to be the culprit.
03:58Don't get up. I want her to tie you up.
04:01It's also been theorized that the Zodiac was behind the Santa Rosa hitchhiker murders,
04:06although this remains unconfirmed.
04:08Likewise, it's unclear if Anstey was part of the Santa Rosa murders,
04:11but she's been listed as a possible victim.
04:14It's okay. It's all gonna be okay.
04:17Whoever was behind this crime, the authorities are still searching for a sign.
04:21Mickey Spillane Gunned Down
04:23Throughout the 60s and 70s,
04:25Irish-American mobster Mickey Spillane ran the rackets in Hell's Kitchen.
04:29Unlike some other organized crime figures,
04:31Spillane gained a reputation as the last gentleman gangster.
04:35He may not have been as brutal or as ferocious as some of the gangsters that preceded him
04:40or those that came after him, but he was certainly no saint.
04:43That said, Spillane's gentlemanly reputation didn't spare him from a violent fate.
04:48Even as the Italian mob clashed with the Irish mob,
04:50Spillane maintained control over his territory.
04:53His luck ran out on May 13, 1977,
04:57when Spillane was shot multiple times outside his queen's apartment.
05:00My brother and I were watching TV with him,
05:03and he had said that a friend was stopping by.
05:06Mickey Featherstone, a Westies gang member, was arrested for Spillane's murder,
05:10but he was ultimately acquitted.
05:12Westies founder James Coonan was also accused of orchestrating the murder,
05:16with assistance from Roy DeMeo.
05:18Spillane notably kidnapped and beat Coonan's father years earlier.
05:22In any case, Coonan took over Spillane's territory.
05:25Trial proof showed that the Westies were a violent organized crime group
05:29that terrorized and exploited the Hell's Kitchen section of Manhattan for the last 20 years.
05:33The Killing of Betty Gore
05:35Being the subject of two recent miniseries,
05:38Candy Montgomery has re-entered the zeitgeist, along with Betty Gore.
05:42Candy!
05:42Sorry, why call when you can barge right in, right?
05:45A wife and mother, Montgomery engaged in an affair with Gore's husband, Allen.
05:50On June 13, 1980, Allen struggled to contact his wife while out of town.
05:55Neighbors discovered Betty's body with her young daughter crying in another room.
06:00Gore's death was traced to Montgomery,
06:02who claimed she was acting in self-defense after being confronted about the affair.
06:07You would never suspicion that she was nervous in any sort of way.
06:13According to Montgomery, Gore came at her with an axe.
06:16Montgomery then supposedly turned the axe against Gore.
06:20Although Montgomery was found not guilty,
06:22many remain skeptical, especially considering how many times Gore was struck.
06:27Hitting her with an axe, 41 times.
06:30A crime definitely occurred that fateful Friday,
06:32but the public still debates who instigated it.
06:35The Disappearance of Brittany Kilgore
06:38Brittany Kilgore was last seen alive wearing a purple evening gown on April 13, 2012.
06:43In April 2012, to go out with former Marine Staff Sergeant Louis Perez
06:48in exchange for helping her move, prosecutors said.
06:51Days after filing for divorce, Kilgore met Louis Ray Perez.
06:55Kilgore wasn't interested when Perez invited her on a dinner cruise,
06:59but she agreed after he offered to help her move.
07:02Instead, Perez allegedly took Kilgore back to his place,
07:06where Grace Marie Maraglino and Jessica Lynn Lopez joined them.
07:10Evidence shows that he bragged to hold a sadomasochism session that weekend.
07:14Four days later, Kilgore's body was found.
07:17Over the following weeks, Perez, Maraglino, and Lopez were arrested.
07:21An investigation uncovered evidence suggesting that the trio was into S&M that crossed the line.
07:27It was argued that they murdered Kilgore after she refused to participate.
07:32It took just three days to convict Perez, Maraglino, and Lopez of first-degree murder.
07:36Although they pleaded not guilty, the three were all sentenced to life without parole.
07:41The Murder of Kitty Genovese
07:44Arriving home from work during the early morning hours of March 13, 1964,
07:49bartender Catherine Kitty Genovese walked behind an alley,
07:52where she was confronted by Winston Mosley, who followed her there.
07:55It happened here. Kitty Genovese was almost home when she heard a man's footsteps behind her.
08:01As Genovese attempted to run away, Mosley repeatedly stabbed her.
08:04Hearing Genovese's cry for help, a neighbor yelled at Mosley, prompting him to flee.
08:09Mosley returned shortly after, proceeding to stab Genovese,
08:13in addition to sexually assaulting and robbing her.
08:16Genovese died before she arrived at the hospital. Mosley later died in prison.
08:21A New York Times article claimed 38 people witnessed the crime without intervening,
08:25although that was proven inaccurate.
08:27With certainly dozens of earwitnesses and eyewitnesses, but when you talk about the
08:32people who both heard something or saw something and knew what it meant, knew what was going on,
08:38I don't think it's more than half a dozen.
08:41While a couple of witnesses did call the police,
08:43Genovese's murder provided the basis for the bystander effect and helped create 9-1-1.
08:48The phrase that came out of this was, I didn't want to get involved.
08:53The Real Friday the 13th Killer
08:55Jason Voorhees may be synonymous with this infamous day, but David McGreevy has been
09:00called the Real Friday the 13th Killer, as well as the Monster of Worcester.
09:04You know, I just couldn't believe what they were telling me.
09:07Even Jason had limits, namely when it came to children.
09:11This wasn't the case with McGreevy, who was living with the Ralph family.
09:15Since both parents worked, they trusted McGreevy to babysit.
09:18In the meantime, the Ralph's children were being looked after
09:22by David McGreevy, a trusted pair of hands.
09:25Although McGreevy was said to have loved kids, he was also a drinker prone to violence.
09:30When a triple homicide occurred on April 13th, 1973, the evidence pointed to McGreevy,
09:36who initially denied involvement before confessing.
09:39The Ralph's marriage fell apart when McGreevy received multiple life sentences.
09:44What was McGreevy's demeanor in court?
09:47He looked very down, and I think he was obviously resigned to his fate.
09:53He was paroled in December 2018,
09:55after nearly four decades in prison, currently living as a free man.

10:16The Paris Attacks
10:18The European Union faced its deadliest attack in over a decade in November 2015.
10:25The attack commenced on Friday the 13th,
10:28when three separate explosions transpired outside of and near the Stade de France stadium.
10:33One person died along with the bombers,
10:36who failed to enter the stadium where President of France François Hollande was attending a game.
10:41So I say firmly that France will remain a country of freedom.
10:46The terror didn't end there, however.
10:48Multiple shootings and another bombing ensued across Paris as the night progressed.
10:53The most casualties occurred at the Bataclan Theatre,
10:56where over a thousand people attended an Eagles of Death medal concert.
11:00At that time, Jesse ran, he ran towards me, and we went in the corner of the stage.
11:05Islamic terrorists carried out these attacks, which ultimately claimed more than 100 lives.
11:10The attacks ended around 12.20am, but Paris remains shaken.
