00:10Now!
00:16The Seeker's Judith Durham sits down for the event questionnaire
00:20with actress Pippa Granderson,
00:22who plays her in the new musical Georgia Girl.
00:25Welcome back to event.
00:30Well, in the 1960s,
00:32The Seekers were Australia's most successful musical export,
00:36achieving a US Billboard hit with the song Georgia Girl.
00:40Now, a new musical takes the song as its title
00:44to tell the story of lead vocalist Judith Durham
00:47and the legendary band behind her.
00:49Starring Pippa Granderson of Muriel's Wedding and Wicked fame
00:53as Judith, Georgia Girl, The Seekers' musical
00:57opens in Melbourne on December 15th
01:00before heading to other cities in 2016.
01:03Pippa and the real Judith Durham
01:06sat down at the State Theatre in Sydney for our event questionnaire,
01:10where we provide the questions and they give us the answers.
01:19Hi, Judith.
01:20Hello, Pippa. This is great.
01:22I know. It's fun, isn't it?
01:23I've got some questions for you.
01:25Right.
01:26And the first one is what is your guiltiest pleasure?
01:30Ah, yes.
01:31Well, now, this is very appropriate
01:33because I used to have a weight problem,
01:35but not that long ago I decided
01:37I was never going to feel guilty about food anymore.
01:40So I freely eat food,
01:42where I used to have terrible guilt complexes about eating too much.
01:46And so now whenever I eat, I'm grateful
01:49and I thank the Lord for the morsel of food,
01:51whatever it is.
01:52Oh, that's really good.
01:53And I have a question for you, Pippa.
01:55Oh.
01:56Which era would you most like to travel back in time to for one day?
02:01The Stone Age.
02:02The Stone Age?
02:04Well, I wouldn't have to shave my legs.
02:06Oh!
02:07I wouldn't have to worry about, you know, any of that unwanted hair.
02:12You know, I never used to shave my legs.
02:14Didn't you?
02:15No, but I did blonde them when I had hairy legs.
02:17But as you get older,
02:18you don't necessarily have the same things as problems.
02:20Things change, don't they?
02:21Things change, yes.
02:22When I get to 70, I think, oh, well, different problems now.
02:27Is there a song you adore but have never performed and why?
02:35Well, there is a song in the musical, actually,
02:37which you, as the character of me, sing a tiny bit of
02:41and I've never ever performed it, but I love it
02:43and I used to sing it around the house when I was really young
02:46and it's called When I Fall in Love.
02:49Is there a person, real or fictitious,
02:52who you personally would really love to play?
02:54But, of course, you'd better not say me.
02:56Present company accepted.
02:58Oh.
02:59Really?
03:00Well, what do you...
03:01Will you be mad if I say you?
03:04Would you really say me?
03:06Of course I would say you.
03:07Oh, wow.
03:08To be quite honest, I don't know if I hadn't had the opportunity
03:12to play you, which I have, obviously.
03:15I don't know if there would be anyone that I could think of
03:18and then when I was asked to audition and I had a look at you on YouTube,
03:22I felt a great connection.
03:24And that might sound a bit twee, but I really did have a great connection
03:27and I thought, yes, I want to play that woman.
03:30That's wonderful.
03:31That is so amazing.
03:32I've got one for you.
03:34When was a moment you found yourself completely speechless and why?
03:42LAUGHTER
03:45Now.
03:46LAUGHTER
03:48Perfect.
03:49Perfect.
03:50I can totally understand.
03:53Pippa, as a performer, what was the hardest decision you ever had to make?
03:58I think it would have been saying yes to playing Elphaba in Wicked.
04:06Is that right?
04:07Why would that be?
04:08I had had my baby girl and I knew that it would be tough
04:15and I had suffered postnatal depression.
04:19As it happens, it was a massive challenge.
04:21But I said yes and I'm glad that I did.
04:24The question I've always wanted to ask you is do you get nervous before you perform
04:37and if so, how do you deal with that?
04:40I usually get nervous if it's a television show.
04:44Right.
04:45Usually.
04:46Yes.
04:47I find that very...
04:48Or in a church.
04:49If it's for a religious purpose, of course it could be a funeral.
04:54Sometimes that's happened.
04:56Could be any situation.
04:58Somebody's wedding who's a personal friend or whatever.
05:00But I do usually get nervous and I don't find it easy.
05:04But on a stage, it's a bigger than me experience
05:07and it just takes me away from myself.
05:09Oh, thank you.
05:10I'm so pleased I asked that question.
05:13That's beautiful.
05:14Thanks, darling.
05:15Well, I've got one more chance to ask you a question.
05:17Okay.
05:18And here it is.
05:19Can I come on opening night, please?
05:22Oh, I don't know about that.
05:25Of course.
05:26Of course you can.
05:27Oh, thank you.
05:28I'd be thrilled to be there.
05:29It'll be a great comfort having you there.
05:31Oh, wow.
05:32Thanks very much.
05:33I hope you go really, really well.
05:35It's a huge success.
05:36Thanks.
05:37And enjoy yourself being me.
05:39It's amazing.
