China’s Foreign Minister calls for BRICS unity amid 'Cold War mentalities'

China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for stronger unity and cooperation within the BRICS alliance on Wednesday, in response to "political forces holding Cold War mentalities."

Speaking at the 14th BRICS security officials meeting in St. Petersburg, Wang highlighted BRICS’ growing economic influence, which now generates over a third of global wealth.

The meeting comes just ahead of a BRICS summit next month in Kazan, where Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to attend.

BRICS has recently expanded to include Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates. Saudi Arabia is considering joining, and Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Malaysia have also formally applied.
