00:29When I wake up with the wildest bed head and mommy and daddy do too.
00:34Mommy says we all have beach hair.
00:37So daddy says, guess we should go to the beach.
00:40He grins.
00:42She grins.
00:44I grin.
00:45We get ready quick packing a lunch and throwing on shoes then race in the car our messy hair
00:50hidden under our favorite hats.
00:54Mommy's is wide and bendy like the empty open road.
00:58Daddy's is pulled down low and tight like the sun is too shiny too bright.
01:03Mine looks like the bucket I'll shovel sand into soon and I can hardly wait.
01:09When we get there, I glance through the window.
01:12I see all kinds of hair already at the beach.
01:16No one's hiding under hats like us.
01:19No one's worried or making a fuss.
01:22I see big beach hair.
01:25And wig beach hair.
01:27Twisty and twirly and barely there beach hair.
01:30There's glossy beach hair.
01:33And flossy beach hair.
01:35Orangey and oily and very fair beach hair.
01:38They're all different like mommy daddy and me.
01:42And all their hair is wild and free.
01:45Mommy opens her door and tosses her hat back onto her seat, so me and daddy leave ours
01:50behind too.
01:52I run toward the sand with my arms spread wide and the ocean breeze makes our beach
01:56hair fly.
01:58Mommy's is fluffy and big like the fat white clouds in the bright blue sky.
02:04Daddy's is straight going sideways with the wind like the tall seagrass we walk through
02:08till we find the perfect spot for our blanket.
02:12Mine is like the soft waves in the ocean.
02:16The soft and gentle waves in the sea.
02:19And all around me.
02:21I see bouncy beach hair and flouncy beach hair.
02:25Wispy and woolly and up in the air beach hair.
02:28There's silky beach hair and milky beach hair.
02:32Frizzy and fro-y and makes mist air beach hair.
02:36Everyone is having so much fun.
02:39Everybody is loving their time in the sun.
02:42We swim in the sudsy sea and our beach hair gets soaked.
02:46Daddy's shrinks like a deflated puffer fish and feels soft and noiced like green gray
02:51moss on the rocks.
02:54Daddy's splits into spiky points.
02:57Like the spiny sea urchin I see in the waves.
03:00Mine sticks to my back long and slick like twisting tentacles or slippery seaweed.
03:06We kick and swim and float for a long long time.
03:10Here, I see wet beach hair.
03:13And pet beach hair.
03:15Brushed and braided and wrapped with care beach hair.
03:19Silvery old beach hair.
03:21Purple and pink and green as a pear beach hair.
03:24I want to keep splashing, but I'm so hungry.
03:29Mommy even says, I hear your mommy.
03:32Later, when we lie on the warm sand.
03:36The sun bakes our beach hair dry.
03:39Mommy's coils into tiny spirals like all the best seashells in my collections.
03:45Daddy's gets all feathery and floppy like the very tips of every seagull's wings.
03:51Mine dries into fat curls the same shape as soft serve ice cream.
03:56We each get our favorite flavor before it's time to head home.
04:01I don't want to leave, not yet, not ever.
04:05But daddy says the best beach days end with smiles, not tears.
04:10We climb into the car with our salty skin, our sandy feet, our beachy hair, our sweet
04:15drippy cones.
04:17We slowly slip on our hats as daddy starts the car.
04:22When he turns the radio up.
04:25Mommy looks at me and we roll our windows down.
04:28He grins.
04:30She grins.
04:32I grin.
04:33We drove fast down the empty open road and the sun is still shiny and bright.
04:39We laugh at our hats as they fly high.
04:42And then at our beach hair waving goodbye.
04:45The end.
