00:00But I'll say this, bro, like, y'all, let's stop acting like we got premium black content.
00:08Like sometimes I think that we as a people act like, you know, oh, it'll come again or
00:14I mean, I'll wait. I won't support this artist right now. That's another person. I'll come
00:18out like that one day. Like, I don't think that's the case, bro. On the level of what
00:23fight night actually is culturally, bro. And I'm not just saying this because I'm in it
00:28like, bro, I don't, I don't know if we have these types of opportunities or they'll be
00:33readily available, man. Like support premium black content, man. We look so beautiful in
00:40there, man. And the writing is stellar, man. And, you know, for us to have this type of
00:46cast together, bro, it's breathtaking and I'm actually honored to be a part of it.
00:52So y'all don't wait. I know y'all want to binge watch. So you wait, you know what I'm
00:56saying? To all the episodes, like we don't need that one on, we don't need that on this
01:00one. You play a Missouri slim. Did you, did you try to tweak your name? Mississippi slim?
01:06You know, it's like right there. No, that's not, that's not part of the story. You know
01:10what I'm saying? Like, like, I think sometimes, man, with the way that media tries to, to,
01:16to move people and program people, sometimes we forget that we're telling somebody else's
01:21story. This is not David Banner. And, and I don't, that's the reason why I like acting
01:27so much. It's not David Banner. It's not about me. It's not my story. This is a very gender
01:33specific story. That's about a certain time period. And I have to let myself go, you know,
01:39and that's something that people don't understand when it comes to me. I take black art very,
01:44very serious. I'm not playing. I will one day be one of the best actors that walked
01:48planet. And I'm not playing with that. So like, for me, there was a lot of, of, of studying.
01:55There was a lot of, you know, I altered myself physically. You know what I'm saying? Like,
02:01I'm not playing with my health. I'm not playing with my, you know, my physical health or mental
02:06health. But the thing is, I really wanted, and even though I come from the, you know,
02:11that environment, when you think about it, I made the song like a pill. Even though I come
02:15from that environment, I didn't take that, you know, for granted that I still needed to study.
02:21I still needed to dive into the characters. I still needed to go and research and talk to
02:27people who directly came from that, that lifestyle, bro. And I think, you know, on this fourth
02:33episode, people are going to see a David Banner on the screen that they've never seen before.
02:37And I'm very, very proud to say that I am a part of hopefully what will push culture forward when
02:45it comes to acting. Like I want, I want these kids to know, especially that I trained. I've
02:51been going to acting school since like a pimp. Like I was flying instead of buying jewelry and
02:57cars and stuff, I spent my money and invested in acting school. So I don't want kids to see me and
03:04think I just went from rap. Like when people would see somebody like Mos Def or like, let's even go
03:09back to Pop. Pop was an actor first. Pop wanted to act before he wanted to rap. So like, I don't
03:15want these kids to think they could just wake up one day and fall into, even though, you know,
03:22some of these people will allow them to, you know, I work on my craft. So like a lot of times people
03:29will say that I'm a little bit too confident. It's not confidence. I work. You know what I'm
03:37saying? You know, when I tell somebody that I look good, it's not, it's not that I think that
03:41I look good. I work on my body six days a week, bro. So when I say I look good, damn it, I better,
03:47if I'm spending this much time and money on being at, if I'm spending that much time and money on
03:52acting, I better at least be decent. So as much as I'm grateful for people telling me that I do a
03:58good job, I better do a good job. If I'm spending this, when I could be just sitting in the, you
04:03know, in the studio producing a beat, you know what I'm saying? And I'm taking this time to
04:07really invest in my art. I am good. And I, and I know I'm good, not because of my ego, but because
04:14of the amount of work that I put in, you know, new actors, seasoned actors and everything in
04:20between, bro, everybody. I don't know, man. It was, I think because of the beauty of the film,
04:26I think because of the time period and the preparation that it took, you know, for me,
04:32from the outside and the inside, bro, I, what, what, what Kevin Hart and Will Packer did with
04:40this, man, it felt like what Eddie Murphy was doing when he would make, when he was making
04:45such beautiful films for us, bro, it, it, it, it felt, it felt like Harlem nights to me, bro.
04:51You know, from the outside and from the inside, just the attention to detail, bro,
04:56I think it brought everybody together. You know, when you have someone like Samuel L. Jackson,
05:01who was actually connected to Atlanta during that time, bro, his wife stayed right around
05:06the corner from where the party happened, if I'm correct, bro. And, and so for him to tell us,
05:11you know, for, for Chicken Man's daughter to be acting in the film, for us to actually be
05:17in Atlanta, you know, there's a certain level of improv, but it comes with history.
