00:00What happened with Notre Dame last week, four touchdown favorite at home, you can't lose
00:06that game.
00:07Oh, absolutely.
00:08And I talked about it with Kevin in Game Time Decisions, the fact that they came out for
00:13a season opener after the beating that they gave Texas A&M in the interior, and they come
00:19out flat, they couldn't run the football, they couldn't shut down NIU, they lost their
00:24turnover battle, Riley Leonard was completely inconsistent, and that's on Marcus Freeman.
00:30That's a coaching type of situation.
00:32Donnie, the numbers were amazing.
00:33I mean, Notre Dame, I believe, and I have to double check, but when I did that game,
00:38they have never lost to a MAAC opponent.
00:40A week one matchup opening up in terms of South Bend since the days of the 1800s, whenever
00:46they started, they had like a 910 winning percentage opening day.
00:51So it's fine that they didn't cover, but to lose the game outright as a 28-and-a-half
00:56point favorite to Northern Illinois, not even picked as one of the better teams in the MAAC,
01:01that was a pitiful performance, and that falls solely on Marcus Freeman.
01:06I'm pretty surprised here, because we're going to take a look at some of the numbers here
01:09for Notre Dame now on the season and what is left of it here.
01:11As I said, at 1-1, to make the playoffs, it's a 3-1 price, which I do think is substantially
01:17lower than what I would actually rate it at.
01:19You see, to win it all, that is at a 100-to-1 number, which I agree with there.
01:24I don't think there's any chance of that.
01:25So moving forward, and here's some of the topics that I'd love to bring up.
01:28Typically, Joe, if you're in a conference, and we can equate this to Florida State, they're
01:33down and out.
01:34They lost their first two games, but theoretically, they can still win the ACC, which means it
01:39doesn't matter what anybody else does in college football, you get that automatic bid into
01:43the playoff.
01:44Notre Dame is not in a conference, they don't get the automatic bid.
01:47Is the season over already for Notre Dame after just two games in the expanded playoff
01:52era?
01:53No, I don't think it is.
01:54I think 3-1 is fair.
01:56They went from minus 170 in the offseason to now 3-1.
02:00They still play USC.
02:02Assuming that USC is for real, right, they get the victory over LSU, they're going to
02:06face Michigan in a couple of weeks.
02:09They're already 8 and a half, or they were preseason 8 and a half point dogs in that
02:13matchup.
02:14If they can go into the big house and get that victory, and let's say they're going
02:17toe-to-toe with Ohio State as the best team in the Big Ten, and Notre Dame can get that
02:22win, Donny, then that'll catapult them to potentially a top-10 ranking.
02:26But there is no margin of error.
02:28They play Army and Navy on the schedule.
02:30They play Miami of Ohio, another MAAC opponent.
02:33You have to run the table.
02:35At worst, you have to be 11-1, I believe, right now, unless Florida State can right
02:40their ship, because they get them in South Bend later in the year.
02:44You have to be 11-1.
