Online security remains a priority for the government, with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) tasked to investigate and develop more effective solutions following the recent Domain Name System (DNS) rerouting issue, said Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.
At the weekly post-Cabinet press conference on Wednesday (Sept 11), Fahmi, who also serves as government spokesman, emphasised that the government is fully committed to enhancing internet safety, particularly for vulnerable groups, and will not compromise on this priority.

00:00I want to ask, recently YB stopped the plan for DNS redirection, right?
00:10Okay, so I want to ask, is DNS redirection still on the table?
00:15No more.
00:16And what is the MCMC alternative plan to fight online crime?
00:23We do not want to continue to ban DNS or DNS redirection.
00:30And I have asked the MCMC to continue the management session that has been held for the past six months.
00:42But taking into account more perspectives, including cyber security experts, tech developers and programmers,
00:56where we do not compromise on the issue of safety in the internet,
01:01and we will recognize more sustainable and effective measures to ensure a safer internet,
01:11especially for children and families.
01:13YB went back to the DNS issue.
01:16So if there was a plan to execute, then it was reversed, and in the end YB was the punching bag.
01:24So what went wrong, YB?
01:26Why did it happen, and why did you get backlash from the netizens and the media?
01:32What happened actually?
01:33We can refer to my recent tweet, and I do not wish to add to that.
01:41What is important at this time, I have insisted that the priority is to ensure a safer internet for children and families.
01:53That is the priority.
01:55Taking into account that crime is increasingly migrating to the cyber world,
02:01not only in social media, but also what we know as the World Wide Web,
02:07then several steps and decisions that are more comprehensive need to be made.
02:13And I have asked the MCMC to investigate and find a more effective solution.
02:25What is the MCMC's response to this?
02:27The investigation continues.
02:31Not only once, but since six months ago.
02:35And it continues.
