00:45at me like that? He asked. I want to know what you thought of my performance. Emma replied.

00:52You're an expert at judging talent. I feel honored that you think so highly of me.

00:57Eric said, putting his arm around her. She looked sideways at Eric prodding him for more.

01:04To be honest, I don't need to say a thing. The audience has already expressed its opinion,

01:11and I agree with them. But the truth is that you were incredible in this film,

01:16and I think that you're only going to get better. I think you are a shoo-in for the best newcomer

01:21award. Eric's words were completely sincere. In fact, her performance had even exceeded his

01:28expectations. She was phenomenal by herself, but her scenes with her co-star were even more electric.

01:36The two of them together had created an aura of suspense and excitement that gripped the viewers.

01:42Just as her film was selling out in theaters nationwide, a new story about another member

01:47of the Miller family came out. Pete was now rumored to be dating Aria, a no-name actress

01:53who was older than him by at least a decade. There were even pictures of the two of them

01:59getting into a car together outside Emma and Eric's apartment. Presumably, they had gone there

02:05so Aria could meet Pete's family. While Peter was entitled to date whomever he wanted,

02:12his fans were convinced that Aria was only dating him for the notoriety.

02:37I don't think she'd go to the tabloids and make something up like that.

02:41Eric said she may have been used without even knowing it.

02:45That's an interesting thought, Emma replied. I hope Peter can handle this on his own.

02:50I have no intention of getting involved. What surprised people, though, was that Pete didn't

02:56come out and address the story directly, either to confirm or deny it. His fans started speculating

03:03online about what was going on. I hope Pete comes out with a statement about this soon.

03:09One fan wrote, Aria's clearly doing this to boost her own profile. Another fan responded,

03:16There's such a double standard. No one would be saying a word if an older man was dating a

03:20younger woman. I feel sorry for her. It was all over the tabloids, and being Emma's brother,

03:27Peter got extra attention from Kaleidoscope. Lewis asked Peter to come to his office and

03:32talk about it. What are you going to do about these rumors? He asked Peter as he looked out

03:38the window. I'm not going to do anything about them, Peter responded. Why not, Louise responded.

03:48Don't you want to at least clarify what's going on? Don't you care about your career?

03:54I was going to do one last concert and stop anyway, Peter responded. Aria can just have her

04:01way. This seems to have nothing to do with Aria. Her manager sold her out, Lewis said,

04:08otherwise she wouldn't have waited so long before releasing the photos.

04:12Her manager obviously did it for the money. Lewis looked at Peter with concern. How are you

04:18feeling about everything? He asked. In what way? I'm referring to Noelle. Don't you care what she

04:25thinks about all this? He asked. Peter was taken aback. He hadn't thought about Noelle's reaction

04:32at all. After a pause, he said, no, this is my problem. It has nothing to do with Noelle. Sure.

04:41Whatever you say, Lewis said with a sigh. It looks like you may have some spare time on your hands.

04:49Why don't you write a few songs? It's the least you can do for your brother-in-law.

04:54Yes, I know, Peter admitted. With that, he left Lewis's office.

05:00However, as he walked into the hallway, he saw Noelle at the other end, looking anxious as she

05:07leaned against the wall. Peter pretended not to see her, but just as he was about to turn around

05:13and walk the other way, she called out to him. Peter turned around and Noelle walked toward him

05:20and lowered her voice. Are you going to clarify the rumors that are going around?

05:26I don't believe that you're dating Aria. I don't have plans to say anything, Peter said. Let people

05:32think what they want to think. But dear, final concert's just around the corner, Noelle said.

05:39Look, this has nothing to do with you, Peter said, looking at the floor. I'm sorry.

05:46Noelle. He turned around and walked the other way. Noelle was left standing all alone as she

05:53watched Peter leave. I guess Peter is right. This has nothing to do with me, she thought.

06:00I just don't want to see him get hurt. Things only got worse because another piece of news

06:05was released a few days later. This time, it was rumored that Aria was pregnant and Peter

06:11was the father. Fans frantically sought the truth in online forums. Do you really think it's his

07:20Eventually, though, he had to ask Peter to cancel the concert, but Peter wanted to go through with

07:26it, regardless of the size of the audience, and he offered the producer a second option.

07:31I'll pay for the concert myself, he said. Even if no one turns up, that's fine. This is really

07:39meant to be my farewell concert. I just want to go through with it, to put an end to this episode

07:45of my life. The producer looked at Peter and sighed. Should we ask Emma for help? Why would

07:52you do that? Peter asked, shaking his head. This is my problem. I don't want to drag Emma into this.

07:59Peter's idea was unprecedented and could bankrupt him. But if he wanted to do it,

08:04it seemed like the best option. Okay, if that's what you want, the concert will go on as planned,

08:11the producer said. While Peter was grateful to have the opportunity to have his final performance,

08:16he was also sad thinking about his past successes. On the day of the concert, Peter sat in his

08:23dressing room, waiting for an update. The news was not good, though. No one had shown up.

08:30Episode 528. A Farewell to the Music Industry

08:35The other members of the band began to warm up while Pete stayed behind in his dressing room.

08:41This is crazy. Are we really going to play to an empty room? The bass guitarist asked as he

08:48surveyed the venue. Dude, I've been around a long time, but I've never seen anything like this.

08:55The drummer responded, I feel sorry for Pete. Man, he was at the top of the charts. What a waste.

09:09he stayed in the dressing room and got ready as usual. Just minutes before the concert start,

09:26she said. He was touched by Emma's words, which made him feel much more accepting of what was

09:33about to happen. He went into the wings and motioned to the stage manager that he was ready

09:39to go on. Are you sure? The stage manager asked. Absolutely. Peter responded. Let's do this. The MC

09:49walked out onto the stage and faced a sea of darkness. After an awkward moment, he noticed

09:55that there was one person sitting in the center of the front row. Emma Miller. Okay, now I'm nervous.

10:03He thought of all people. Emma Miller is here. The MC took a deep breath and bellowed as if he was

10:10addressing a full audience. And now the moment you've been waiting for your headliner, Pete

10:16McMillan. As the stage lit up, Emma watched as Peter came onto the stage, dressed simply in jeans,

10:24a white t-shirt and a leather jacket. Peter pulled out all of the stops for his farewell concert.

10:30He had never expected that Emma would be the only one to watch him perform. Thinking about what she

10:37had said to him earlier, though, he realized that even if his career fell apart, his family would

10:43still be there for him. Peter gave it his all. As he ended the first song, he walked up to the

10:50microphone and announced, I have a few things I would like to say. Little did he know, but Emma

10:57had arranged for his concert to be broadcast live in Times Square. Whatever he had to say would be

11:04heard by all of New York City. First, I want to say hi to my fans. Even if you're not here tonight,

11:11Peter said, looking straight out into the empty room, and I want to let you know that I'm okay.

11:18My family stands behind me no matter what, and that's all I need. I also want to take this

11:24opportunity to clarify the rumors that are going around about me. I'm not in a relationship with

11:30anyone, and I'm certainly not about to become a father, and that's the truth. I'm disappointed in

11:37how shallow this industry can be, and how people are willing to believe stories with no truth to

11:43them. I'd like to dedicate this next song, hypnotize myself to my fans and to those who used to be my

11:50fans. You have helped me realize that reality can't be changed, and that a person's heart is

11:57unpredictable. Peter quickly became lost in his song. If leaving someone is for their own good,

12:04looking back is pointless, he sang. Although the audience was empty, Pete was performing to

12:11thousands of fans. When the song ended, he quietly added, to be honest, I wanted to say this a long

12:19time ago. Life is hard enough, but this industry makes it even harder, so tonight will be my last

12:25concert. From the time I was little, I sang because I loved to sing. As I got older, I sang because of

12:34my fans. But if my fans aren't with me, I don't need to be out here anymore. I can go back to just

12:40doing this for myself. Good night, everyone. Peter took a few steps back and looked straight into the
