00:00A teenage girl wearing a batik because she thinks it's viral, it's cool. So I hope that...
00:10There are many types of techniques and also
00:14tenunan, sulaman, beadwork, and also like the one I'm wearing, songket.
00:20The one we can see behind me, kain lima, requires a little time for us to appreciate it.
00:25So if we just look at pictures or online exhibitions,
00:28sometimes we don't see the texture, especially for kain, tenunan kain.
00:33So, coming here is not only to support our 92-year-old artisans,
00:40and there are those who are in their 20s and so on,
00:45but when they get attention and there are also those who appreciate their artwork,
00:51so it's a support by coming to visit the exhibition.
00:54So, we have 19 items that we are exhibiting.
00:58This is from the Hasana Gold Track Award in 2020-2023.
01:02We also have 20 items that we are exhibiting.
01:06They are at the top level, in Bangunan Tangsi.
01:08The building is very beautiful.
01:10For me, it is very in line with the heritage theme,
01:15where we display 39 items to be exhibited for public display.
01:23And can be enjoyed together.
01:25And in a very beautiful building, we also have two new categories,
01:29the category of young people and also the category of sustainability.
01:35And this is a category that is very important to me
01:38because in the textile field and also we are in a climate change situation,
01:45and the problem of public sustainability and so on.
01:49So, these two categories show where young people are also given the opportunity
01:54to be more involved in the field of sustainability and also heritage textiles.
01:58And also the senior group can also share knowledge.
02:02What I see is that our young people, the new generation,
02:06they are very interested in the results of art.
02:09So, we see a lot of them starting to wear traditional clothes
02:13and also make sure that they wear something every day.
02:16But for me, when we do an exhibition like this,
02:19they get more knowledge.
02:21So, what is the difference, for example, between Songkit weaving,
02:24what is the difference between Ikan weaving,
02:25what is the difference between weaving from Pahang or Sarawak.
02:28So, when they wear it, they wear it proudly.
02:30They don't wear it because they follow their friends,
02:33but something that they wear.
02:34I think that is part of their national identity, their independence.
02:39We can wear it every day.
02:42Just like Batik, recently Batik has started to become viral.
02:45A lot of teenagers wear Batik because they think it's viral.
02:50It's cool.
02:51So, I also hope that besides Batik,
02:54many people can also wear Songkit,
02:55can also wear Ikan,
02:57can also wear Tenunan and also Sulaman
03:00that symbolize the motifs of our nation.
03:03But they wear it because they bought it in Malaysia.
03:05It's not a motif made in a foreign country,
03:08mimicking the motif of Malaysia.
03:09But our Malaysians don't know.
03:11So, the knowledge is what we try to convey to the youth
03:15and various layers of society.
03:17What we share with them,
03:20the most important thing is the recognition.
03:23And most of our artisans are already very old,
03:2892, 80, 70 years old and so on.
03:30So, the recognition raises them in a higher awareness.
03:35And we hope that with that,
03:37many more artisans out there
03:39will see that the textile industry has a bright future.
03:44That's what we try to convey,
03:46even though there are awards and prize money,
03:49but the biggest prize is to raise and promote the textile industry.
