Some innings are once-in-a-lifetime innings, and Nathan Astle played one such knock 22 years ago. In the fourth innings, New Zealand was chasing 550, and Astle came out at 119-3. He held one end, but wickets started falling at the other like a deck of cards.
He completed his 100 in 114 balls.
But after the 8th wicket fell something flipped in him.
He started running down the track and unleashed hell on the English bowlers smashing almost every ball he faced.
He took 39 more balls to go from 100 to 200 and completed his 200 in 153 balls, making it the fastest double hundred in the history of test cricket.
It looked like New Zealand might win at one point, but Astle finally got out at 222, and England won by 98 runs.
