00:00The Agriculture Department strongly believes that the ASF vaccine is safe.
00:05This is after a few dead pigs have been slaughtered.
00:10The DA also has an explanation for what happened.
00:13This is what Clay Zalfardilia reported.
00:16On August 13, the Department of Agriculture started the vaccination against African Swine Fever.
00:23On a farm in Marangay Malapad, Parang in Labobatangas,
00:2612 pigs were vaccinated against the ASF vaccine.
00:30But after a few days, 5 of the vaccinated pigs died.
00:36The pigs, although negative for the ASF blood test,
00:41because that is our policy,
00:43showed a respiratory problem.
00:47And it means that their body is already compromised.
00:52It's like a so-called pre-morbidity.
00:55The pigs have not yet built up antibodies.
01:00Five days, six days, seven days, the pigs died.
01:05And the infection pressure is very high.
01:09According to the DA, 7 to 14 days before the 40% immune system response against ASF was given to the pigs,
01:1928 days is needed to build up antibodies and have up to 75% immunity against ASF.
01:28The DA believes that the ASF vaccine remains safe and effective
01:33and is being used in the controlled vaccination of the agency.
01:37In another hog farm in the same barangay that has strict biosecurity,
01:41the 26 pigs that were vaccinated had no problem.
01:46All of them are apparently healthy.
01:48No deaths, no morbidity.
01:51It means that there is no weakness.
01:52If we have a knee-jerk reaction in the pig farm,
01:57let the pigs talk to me.
01:59So I will reiterate, I'm still confident that the vaccine will work.
02:05The DA strictly monitors the vaccinated pigs
02:09to increase the controlled vaccination trial against ASF.
02:13From Lobo, Batangas, the DA also targeted the pigs in the Red Zone, La Union, Quezon, and Mindoro.
02:21The pigs in North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Cebu will also be vaccinated.
02:26150,000 doses of vaccine from Vietnam will be administered in the affected areas.
02:32According to Agriculture Secretary Francisco T. Laurel Jr.,
02:36the controlled vaccination program will protect the pigs against ASF
02:42to increase the supply and lower the price in the market.
02:46The DA is speeding up the study on the admission of other brands of ASF vaccine
02:52from the United States, Vietnam, South Korea, and Thailand
02:56for fatteners and breeders.
03:00For now, the vaccine against ASF is only for growers or big pigs.
03:05To prove that it is safe and effective,
03:08the Food and Drug Administration will issue a Certificate of Product Registration
03:14so that it can enter the country.
03:16Php 350 million was raised for the purchase of 600,000 doses of vaccine against ASF.
03:22In 470 barangays in the Philippines, there are active cases of ASF.
03:29Kalay Zalpardilla for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
