00:00last times. Tailor the table.
00:06Let's take a look at that. 11
00:08years, the difference between
00:11Lock and Jal. Uh height and
00:13reach really nothing on the
00:14scales, nothing separating the
00:17two. So, statistically, we are
00:20about even and we are underway.
00:24It is the featherweight
00:25division. Six three-minute
00:28in the black. Richie Lockett in the white. And it is, oh, at the moment, run kill. Wow.
00:44Lockett coming forward and counter boxing as well. Full on pace to start this one. Six
00:51three-minute rounds with thanks to West Australia Tourism. No settling in, boys. No settling
01:00in here. They have just come out and started bombing. Certainly not. And obviously Richard
01:04usually starts fast, but Zhao is definitely matching him with the pace here. And when
01:10Richard wins, he usually wins by knockout. So it's surprising that Zhao's come in and
01:15obviously opening up a lot so early because when Richard hits you, you usually stay hit
01:21As you can see, a couple of shots really taking their toll now. Well, he's got that 80% knockout
01:27ratio, five wins, four knockouts as Richard Lockett. Yeah, and holds a win over Jackson
01:34John England. So that's massive for him coming into a fight like this, Andy. This is the
01:39type of fight that you expect from Richard Lockett. I called that fight and he made it
01:43very, very ugly. So Zhao's obviously done his homework here because he's come out to
01:47a sort of adapt to the style that's expected from Lockett. We've got a very experienced
01:52corner. Obviously, Angelo Haida. He's been around the world. He's won world titles. So
01:57he knows exactly how to create a game plan that's very suited to the opponent. So it
02:04looks like that's exactly what he's done here again tonight. And said respectfully, arguably
02:08the craziest man in boxing. One hundred percent. However, two of the contenders are also in
02:13the corner. Adam and Steve Wills are in the corner with him. The legends from the Central
02:17Coast of New South Wales, their royalty over there. They've made W.A. home for, I guess,
02:22the best part of the last 20 years and terrific young fellas. And watching Richie and Rung
02:29Joo do their thing. They haven't stopped since the opening bell. I'll tell you what, there's
02:34absolutely no defense in this. It's all offense. Both boys just throwing, but keeping their
02:38chins wide open to be caught with the counter. As you see, both boys have not stopped since
02:45that opening bell. Surely they're going to tire at some stage. Not Richard Lockett. He
02:49has got cardio for days. You talked about Angelo Haida in the corner for Zhao. In the
02:54corner for Lockett is an MMA background. He's got an MMA background, Richard Lockett. Wilkes
02:59MMA, who's obviously part of Steve Astroboy Ursek, former world title challenger in the
03:05UFC. So he's not going to stop. Both boys standing very high and they're not generating
03:10enough power because they're standing so high. If they just bend their knees and obviously
03:14drove up through their legs, I think they'll be creating a lot more damage on their opponent.
03:19Terrific opening round. You see some replays of that first round and wow, the action was
03:28packed. Both boys did not stop throwing punches from the opening second of that round right
03:34to the third minute. As you can see, Richard scoring with some great shots down the pipe,
03:40the receipt was there from Zhao as well. It just kept on coming and coming and it did
03:46not stop. You mentioned before, Andy, about how important it is to have a good corner.
03:50You mentioned Adam and Stevie Wills, obviously mad but very good boxing brains. They've obviously
03:56seen Richard Lockett fight before. So credit to Zhao and the corner work to actually come
04:01out with the game plan that they did because they've adapted to the style of Richard Lockett
04:05very good in the opening round. The last thing you want to do against a boxer that's
04:11aggressive early is allow him the opportunity. You want to try and pressure him and push
04:16him into something different. That's exactly what they've been able to achieve in that
04:19opening four minutes. We get back into it. That number three on the count, we started
04:25with a majority draw in the heavyweight division, Bilal Sidhu and Cam Thompson. Matty Garland
04:31was the unanimous points winner across all three judges' scorecards in our first televised
04:38fight. The countdown continues to Alex Wingward and his world title campaign in bout number
04:45five. We spoke about that big ring earlier on in the telecast, Andy, well these guys
04:53aren't using it. They're just trading in the middle at the moment. Both boys happy to sit
04:57in the pocket and just tee off on each other. Zhao said in the lead up to this he was going
05:03to bring a good fight and he is bringing it. I've got to ask you something Nathan, with
05:10the big ring as well, does the cardio have a factor in that, in that they've got so much
05:15more space to move? Well I think it just falls into a boxer. Obviously when you're a pressure
05:21fighter you want to fight in a phone booth so to speak, but with a boxer they've got
05:26that room to, you know, that option to move left or right. So yes it can be, but for a
05:32fighter that is very experienced and knows how to cut off the ring, well they can minimise
05:36the impact of a big ring as well. But obviously inexperienced guys, yeah, you can definitely
05:41escape and you're starting to run laps and the cardio becomes a factor for sure. The
05:47phone box style is definitely the style of Richard Lockett and I'm impressed with how
05:51Zhao is actually handling it. Yeah he is, he is handling it very, very well and countering
05:58pressure with pressure. Zhao, for mine, is showing the angles here. He might not be showing
06:04the cleaner punches but he is making sure that Richard Lockett is very aware defensively
06:10at all times. Coming from angles, throwing different punches. Both guys have got a bit
06:16of a man-crush I think on the uppercut because they're going that route regularly. There
06:21was another one, a nice straight right hand by Zhao whose nose is just bloodied a little bit.
06:31This is a question we know what we're going to get with Lockett. We haven't seen Zhao
06:35too much. He won his first six fights of his career. He's gone two losses and one draw
06:40since then so this is where the cardio gets tested, Nathan. Yeah definitely and it's certainly
06:46getting tested tonight because once again in the second round it has not, or third round,
06:51it has not stopped. Both boys throwing plenty. Zhao has already fought in China, in Thailand,
06:58in Kazakhstan, in Japan at the famed Koh-I-Kin Hall. He's got some real positives here.
07:07Very smooth athlete actually. Zhao having a lot of success there in that last 20 seconds
07:12just catching his opponent so many times consecutively. But Lockett, man, he is tough.
07:21Another fantastic round. Yeah it certainly was. I've got the surprise of my life here
07:25in the round. Angelo Hyder. Angelo Hyder in the corner barking instructions in Chinese.
07:32As we see some replays of that second round and what an action-packed round it was. Both
07:39boys from go to oh again. Non-stop punching. A lot connecting as well. You can see the
07:46markings already on Lockett. So red around the face and around the upper body just from
07:51those continuous shots. But he's giving as good as he gets, that's for sure.
08:10Out of Wilkes MMA. Richard Lockett heads to centre ring to be met by Rong-Kyu Zhao. And
08:18we are back into it. Round number three in this year in the featherweight division. Limit
08:23of just over 57 kilos. And they're doing it over six 3-minute rounds.
08:32Picked up right where they'd left off. We knew what was going to happen.
08:37Yeah there's been no real surprises so far. Good right hand from Zhao. Body shot there.
08:45Both boys are still standing so high in their stance. I mean if they'd just bent their knees
08:49and drove up with their power, I tell you what, I reckon this might have been stopped
08:53with the amount of shots they've landed.
08:57Yeah both guys in terms of punches thrown and the punches landed, both guys have had
09:02good numbers in the opening couple of rounds. Oh the numbers will be absolutely huge. Don't
09:07envy the guys keeping the stats on this one.
09:14Nice from Lockett that time. And I think you can just see the first signs of fatigue starting
09:22to set in. No surprise at all. Maybe the only surprise is the fact that it has taken this
09:27long because, wow, they've been doing this since the opening round.
09:32Good right hand again. Counterboxing from Ronquillo's youth. The right hands have been
09:38terrific and Lockett just continues with the short punches, the tap tap, uppercut.
09:43Yeah the clean up more powerful shots this round are coming from Zhao, that's for sure
09:47as we get sprayed with blood on ringside here. It was a couple of cracking right hands scoring
09:54for Zhao and there is another one right there and another right hand there from Zhao. He's
09:59really starting to play this game exactly how it should be played with an uppercut landing
10:05as well. Well we don't wear white as well gentlemen. Yeah you're exactly right, dark
10:11colours only when you're sitting commentating ringside at the fights. Much to the annoyance
10:17of my dry cleaner.
10:20Good turn there from Lockett and all of a sudden his opponent is back to the ropes.
10:25Two young boxers and they are young boxers in terms of their in ring maturity. Both really
10:31good fight IQ. They know where they are at all times in the ring. They know what they're
10:36trying to achieve. They might not always get there but they're coming back to their game
10:41plan and always challenge themselves. Both boys fighting at that really top level. Obviously
10:47Zhao's last fight was a Ukrainian, undefeated Ukrainian in Ukraine and Richard's fought
10:53people like Sam Goodman before so they've been at that really top level. Both boys always
10:58testing themselves. Just we think that the cardio is going to sit in. They still have
11:03not stopped throwing punches through three rounds and I don't believe they're going to
11:07stop. I mean this is incredible matchmaking from the promoters here. Yeah it certainly
11:12is and you don't need the biggest names, you don't need the most money or the biggest belts
11:16to have a good fight. You need two guys with a really smart matchmaker and that's what
11:21we've seen right here. Good third round between Richard Lockett and Rongque Zhao. As we see
11:27some replays of that third round and it was just loop and repeat again. It was more of
11:33the same. It was just punch after punch after punch by both boys. I tell you what they'll
11:40be leaving the stadium with a headache tonight because lots of punches have landed from both
11:46boys. They're putting on a spectacle for the crowd and it's a sleeper at the moment for
11:51fight of the night. This is a fight we had our eyes on in the build up to it and it's
11:59living up to expectations. We have a look at the corner of Zhao, Adam Wills and Angelo
12:04Hyde are working in the corner there. I can see Darren Reeves in the corner for Richard
12:09Lockett as well. He's been there since the start of his career. Went to Wilks MMA once
12:15Darren moved down south. Here we go. Round number four. Richard Lockett in the white
12:23in the black cracking fight so far in the featherweight division. They're really good.
12:30I mean, one thing I've picked up here, a lot of straight punches from both boys. If they
12:34finish with that hook, not only does it protect their chin even if they miss because it covers
12:38their chin, I think it's just going to create that another angle that will probably expose
12:42their chin for sure. So, one two hook or one two right hook. Change it up a bit with
12:48a different angle I think. Such is the the nature of this fight and the fact we're live
12:53around Australia on seven plus. The opportunities for the winner of this fight are endless in
12:59the featherweight division. If they wanted to go up in the super featherweight division,
13:03there is a lot of quality matchups that can be brought here to the west coast or they
13:08can travel should they wish to the east coast but the opportunities over the next 12 months
13:13in and around those two divisions, incredible in Aussie boxing. It certainly is and it's
13:18growing. Obviously, these smaller weights and bygone years, they were they were pretty
13:23pretty depleted but now, obviously, with the rise in Australian boxing, they're getting
13:27filled and filled quickly and these boys would be perfect in any corner.
13:35They've got the perfect platform for it tonight as well. Yeah, most certainly,
13:40Brett. Most certainly, it's been a raging success. The premier boxing series so far
13:45on seven plus. You can see the fight nights of a Saturday night probably in and about
13:50every couple of weeks, every four weeks, and every Wednesday night on seven plus beyond
13:56the ropes where we look at boxing a completely different manner. We talk to the people behind
14:03get really up close and personal but that said, we're up again next Saturday night.
14:08Nate, what a what a night that is with Dan Hill and Lewis Chadwick, the main event for
14:13our an Australian title and and coming from Brisbane. Wow, I'm looking forward to that
14:19one, Andy. Honestly, it's I believe it's going to be the fight of the year. It's just two
14:25evenly matched fighters that both come to fight and can both bang. So, it could be anything
14:31How this is turned now is the one trying to push lock it up against the ropes but lock
14:38it as he did in the opening round. Really, really smooth Richie Lockett in terms of turning
14:44his opponent but now turned him. He's got him against the ropes. This is really good
14:50boxing boxing IQ from these two guys. I'll tell you what the man needs a pay rise because
14:56He is off the charts. The punch that's at the moment through the opening four rounds
15:01here. Give him the fight off and just say that through a hell of a lot of punches. Wow.
15:10Closing stages around four. It's been incredible pace. Oh, good uppercut there lands by Lockett
15:17just as we finish that fourth round. Another cracker. Can they keep going for six more
15:24rounds? Short answer. Yeah, they can.
15:33You see some replays of that fourth round and endless work rate. It continued from both
15:41boys. A couple of shots just a little bit below the belt there. Just got away with it.
15:47That's the way it's going boys. Fighting in fair spirit though overall.
15:54Trying to get those straight shots off a little bit too much. I think like I said, if that
15:59hook like that one comes more often, I think we'll have a lot more success.
16:09Really looking forward to our next fight. Not to overlook this one but our next fight
16:13is going to be one of the state honors. Lewis Clark, Dylan Winter. Two really talented but
16:19very different boxers. We'll see them in the ring next. The big boys with the big bang
16:23coming up on the premier boxing series.
16:32It's a very interesting situation for Richard Lockett guys because he's used to sort of
16:38wearing down his opponents. I don't think he's ever come up against opponents that has
16:41shook his own style before. So this is going to test him all the way to the very end. And
16:45they both guys don't look like slowing down right to the very end of this fight.
16:49Exactly right. And they continue to fight on the inside. The referee really doesn't
16:55even need to be there. That's the type of fight it is. They've sorted it all out themselves.
17:01They've kept busy. They haven't clinched. Fighting on the inside, which is almost sad
17:08to say this but it's almost a lost art in the modern day. The fighting on the inside.
17:14Oh good two punch combination from Lockett. I think referee Bill Seppert's actually doing
17:21a good job. Very experienced referee. And as you said Andy, he's not interfering as
17:26we've seen referees do before in the past. Yeah. It's not about the refs in any sport.
17:33They should always be commended but it's not about the refs and that's exactly what Billy's
17:37doing here. Letting him go. If he needs to step in, he will. But at the moment there
17:42has been no need to. We're halfway through the penultimate round. This is round five
17:47of six. We spoke about how brutal this is on the statisticians. Let's spare a thought
17:59to the judges at ringside. How on earth are you scoring this? Exactly because they're
18:05almost a clone of each other. They're throwing similar punches, landing about a similar amount
18:10as well and similar power, everything. There's only been very, very few clean shots from
18:16both boys. They've just been these peppering shots. They keep on coming, yes, but it's
18:21just coming from both ends. Good body shot there just as I say that from Rung Kee Zhu
18:27as he doubles it up there with a big left hand and that might be the turning point in
18:32this round. Amazing punch to the body and then over the top from Rung Kee Zhu. And as
18:39soon as that happened, he upped the level in terms of power. So they're not spending
18:45all their energy on every shot. They're tap, tap, tap, tap. Then when the opportunity arises,
18:50they power up. They hulk up if you like. 20 seconds remaining round number five. Yeah,
18:58better variation from Rung Kee Zhu between the body and the head this round. For certain,
19:02he's investing in that body, trying to drop the guard and finish up upstairs with a head
19:07shot, either a hook or a right hand. You heard the 10 second warning. What a round. Yeah,
19:16I don't know how you are scoring this at home. I don't know how they're scoring it here.
19:22It looks like we are going to the judges scorecards. We've got three more minutes to decide that
19:26and what they come up with. Well, for me, anyone's guess. Another cracking round, round
19:33five. Rung Kee Zhu, I thought, had the better moments in that round, as we'll probably see
19:38throughout these snippets. There was a couple of really clean shots and combinations that
19:43really played a role. And what I believe, him claiming that round, as you can see, that
19:49little wobble there caused by that left hook. And then it just kept on coming on. What a
19:56fight. We're expecting it to last a distance, but Locker was hurt in that round by Zhao.
20:00So again, we could see a stoppage if one of these guys lands a clean shot. I mean, they've
20:05gone so hard for five full rounds. One to go. Can't wait. This is the sixth and final
20:14round in the featherweight matchup between Richard Lockett in the white trunks and Rung
20:20Kee Zhao in the black trunks. Now, you can find Western Australia on Facebook, Instagram,
20:25and Twitter at Western Australia and hashtag WA, the dream state. I'd like to thank West
20:34Australian State Government through Tourism Western Australia for their continued support
20:39of world-class level boxing. Lockett's been hurt early in this round, Nathan. Yeah, I
20:48think it's a flowing effect from that previous round. He did get hurt as we saw late in that
20:54fifth round, which is a little bit of a continuation here. But Richard Lockett, out of his five
21:00wins, he's had four knockouts himself. I don't believe it's one punch power. I just think
21:06But tonight, he's got a mirror in Rung Kee Zhu because he's just giving as much as he
21:11gets. And obviously, Richard Lockett is in some pretty good condition as well because
21:18again, normally, you'd see a fighter stopped after a big punch like that in the previous
21:22round. And it was a beauty set up perfectly with the body shot. There's the left hand
21:29from Zhao again. Yeah, another one. Middle minute, final round. Good variation once again
21:37there from Zhao to the body and finishing to the head, really snapping the head back
21:41of Lockett. Changing levels really nicely as Rung Kee Zhu. And starting to dig into
21:45the body really well. Another body shot, another head shot. Rung Kee Zhu is really coming on
21:52here as Lockett tries to battle with him. The changing of the levels has been beautiful
21:59from Zhao. Left hook, right hook, doubles up with the right hand. Both guys are throwing
22:08the volume, but it's probably the cleaner punches of Zhao that is showing in the final
22:13two rounds. And he holds the power too. Between the two, he holds the power. You can see he's
22:18really starting to rock the head back of Lockett. Look at those markings all throughout
22:22the body and the head of Lockett. He is red. How do you reckon Richie Lockett's ribs are
22:27going to feel tomorrow morning? Like they've been through a meat grinder. He'll be sore,
22:32but he's that tough. He'll be in training on Monday. But yes, he'll be sore. Wow, the
22:42stat man needs a raise because this has not stopped. I thought, yes, it had to stop. It
22:47hasn't. Six rounds of continuous punches from both boys as we go into the final 20 seconds
22:53of this contest. Cut open up on Zhao as well. Yeah, also blood flowing a little more freely
23:00now from the nose of Zhao. That was a good right hand there from Lockett. That was his
23:05best punch for sure. As he gets going, really waiting this sixth round, a really good shot
23:11scoring from Lockett. They are going to finish exactly as they started standing in front
23:15of each other and just banging away. Hey, boys, anytime, anytime you want to come back
23:21on the Premier Boxing Series, you are welcome. And hey, here's an idea. What about a rematch?
23:28I was thinking that exactly, Andy. Rematch. Bring them on. That was sensational. Yeah,
23:34for sure. Let's not look fathers or other opponents. Let's just run it back because
23:38that was too good not to see again. Credible matchmaking and and again, this is a learning
23:44boxing is always a learning experience as well. This will be a learning experience for
23:47Richard Lockett because he is not, I call a lot of his fights. He's not come up against
23:51opponent that could match him in the same style like that for six rounds and and even
23:56more. Tell you what might be concerning is the cut over the left eye of King Zhao in
24:03that final round in the in the back end of that final round. Uh they're the type of cuts
24:10that uh that can hinder your career as you move forward. Keeping in mind for Runcue,
24:16this is just fight number ten. So, neither of these guys has a great deal of experience.
24:23So, congratulations to them for putting on the performance they did. Let's hope that
24:30isn't too bad for Runcue.
24:39The numbers are in. Oh, which way will this go? Someone is going to be bitterly, bitterly
24:46disappointed. as they have the gloves taken from them.
24:53Absolutely exhausted. They can't hold their hands up. Their trainers are doing that for
24:58them.
25:05The world's boys, Angelo. Ladies and gentlemen, we get our two fighters here to the center
25:10ring. What a fight that was. Uh Lockett up against Joe. We'll get set to make this one
25:16official.
25:24Alright.
25:38Alright. Well, if two fighters deserve their round of applause, it's these two
25:42gentlemen. What a fight. What a show. Show your appreciation.
25:48Ladies and gentlemen, the judges score cards. Ladies and gentlemen, the first card reads
25:55fifty-eight to fifty-six to Lockett. Your second card reads sixty to fifty-four to
26:05Joe. Your third card reads fifty-eight to fifty-six to your winner by split decision
26:14to the blue corner.
