00:00The 21st century is the age of increased development in trade and commerce in the Pacific Rim,

00:06the Southeast region in particular, and the Philippines is making headway in turning itself

00:11into a manufacturing hub and center for trade in the region, as evidenced by its choice

00:16to host an international trade convention that bodes well in helping bolster the country's

00:22chances to compete in the world market, as our Bien Manalo reports.

00:28Strengthening the commerce and trade industry for the progress and development of the Philippines.

00:34This is what President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. insisted in his speech at the 2024 Philippine

00:40Strategic Trade Management Summit today.

00:43According to President Marcos, Jr., this meeting was historic for the Philippines because it

00:48is the first time that the country has become the host country in the Trade Management Summit.

00:53The United States Ambassador to the Philippines, Her Excellency Mary Kay Carlson, and other

00:59officials from the U.S. government were also present at the summit.

01:03This demonstrates our faith in the power of collaboration to improve and secure our global

01:10supply chains, as well as to open our doors for trade to flourish, for wealth to grow,

01:16and for people to prosper.

01:18For three consecutive years, Southeast Asia has led global discussions on export control

01:23of strategic goods, such as raw materials used to make weapons.

01:28According to President, this has been the way to further strengthen relations between

01:33ASEAN countries and partners from different parts of the world.

01:37The chief executive stressed the importance of technology in trade management.

01:42The world is growing more complex, with emerging technologies both in civilian and military

01:47fields, posing challenges in trade management.

01:52The rapid pace of advancement demands us to be more agile, more responsible, and it requires

01:58us to address both the speed and dual-use nature of these new technologies.

02:04This will also promote order and security in the entire Southeast Asian region.

02:09The government previously launched a strategic investment plan dedicated to strengthen the

02:13Philippines' position in the global market.

02:16In relation to this, policies have also conceived and put to work to boost STMA and implementation

02:23of programs for border control officers and stakeholders to comply with the regulations

02:29effectively.

02:30The government is also conducting post-authorization audits, compliance checks, and compliance

02:36consultation through monitoring and inspection activities.

02:40Let this occasion be a reminder to renew important conversations and to reinforce our commitment

02:47to creating what we refer to as Bagong Pilipinas, that is not only safe and secure, but filled

02:55with promising opportunities for all.

02:58President Marcos Jr. assured that the government will continue to upgrade to industry standards

03:04and further strengthen the connection through various trade and investment frameworks.
