'Crimea is Ukraine': EU denounces 'elections' in Russian-occupied territory

Up to 83 elections were held throughout Russia and occupied Ukrainian territory over the weekend, with the results — strongly titled towards Moscow-approved candidates — expected to roll in by the end of September.

00:00The EU's diplomatic service has strongly condemned Russia's municipal elections held in occupied
00:08Crimean territory, stating the vote violates international law, the UN Charter and Ukraine's
00:15sovereignty.
00:17The EU does not recognize these so-called elections or their results in Crimea, the
00:23European Union External Action Service said in a statement on Monday.
00:29They are null and void and cannot produce any legal effects whatsoever.
00:34Eighty-three elections spanning regional to municipal were held throughout Russia from
00:39September 6th to 9th.
00:43Areas included the Ukrainian-controlled region of Kursk in Russia, which saw the country's
00:49third-highest percentage of voter turnout.
00:53The results, strongly expected to tilt towards Moscow-approved candidates, are slated to
00:58roll in by the end of September.
