00:00What are you doing?
00:01I don't want to win this way.
00:02Your nature is to move easily.
00:04I'll just pause it here now.
00:07Jake, why don't you ever answer my texts?
00:09You know, he's, he's, he got a little handsome, you know,
00:12and he had all the girls.
00:14I remember that.
00:15I'm complimenting you.
00:17Hey guys, I'm Selena Gomez,
00:18and today we are going to be looking at a few scenes
00:21throughout my career.
00:24Okay.
00:40Alex was about to cross the finish line,
00:43and then she came back.
00:46This was the last part we were shooting
00:48for the entire Wizards era,
00:52and it was really hard, but I loved it.
00:54It was really fun.
00:55We did over a hundred episodes of the show,
00:58and then three movies for the show.
01:01I think my favorite part of this time
01:03was that I genuinely had no idea what was coming.
01:07Simply fun, and I could be young,
01:10and I had a beautiful experience on Disney.
01:13David Henry and I are very close, so it was very sweet
01:16to be able to have a big brother
01:18since I didn't have siblings.
01:19Yeah, and then I look like I'm five.
01:22That's crazy.
01:23The outfit and the hair, love you guys,
01:25but whoa, whoa, whoa, no.
01:27Alex Russo is officially the Russo family wizard.
01:35The Russo family wizard.
01:36We were this close to becoming a normal family.
01:40I really appreciated our writers.
01:42There were writers on the show that were from friends.
01:45We had Dom Deluise's son,
01:47and he just inherently had this humor about him,
01:51and it was so captivating,
01:53and he would improv and throw me off,
01:56and eventually we all started evolving.
01:58I mean, when I watched the first season, I'd cringe,
02:01and then later I actually find myself laughing
02:04at those moments because the real moments
02:06are, to me, what made wizards.
02:14Are you serious?
02:15That's it?
02:16Hi, girls.
02:30This was probably, to date,
02:32still one of my favorite projects I was ever a part of.
02:35Believe it or not, it was my mom's idea.
02:37We watched Harmony's movies together,
02:39and I was so eager after Disney to have a release.
02:44Nothing as drastic as I thought it would be,
02:48but I think my character is very reflective
02:51of who I was back then,
02:54which was stepping out of this era
02:56of always needing to make sure
02:59that I hold my head up high,
03:02do things kids can watch,
03:04and just felt like a huge release.
03:07Everybody's miserable here
03:08because everybody sees the same things.
03:10They wake up in the same bed,
03:13the same houses,
03:16same depressing streetlights.
03:19The line or the monologue was all improv.
03:22Harmony said to me,
03:24describe where you grew up
03:25and describe why you wanted to get out of there.
03:30Everything's the same and everyone's just sad.
03:34I don't want to end up like them.
03:35I really want to get out of here.
03:36This is more than just spring break.
03:39This is our chance to see something different.
03:42Yeah, it's not accurate.
03:44Now, technically I never wanted to leave Texas,
03:47but when I go back there,
03:48I do get a shock of what my life could have been.
03:52And it doesn't mean it was bad.
03:54It just would have been very different.
03:55You know, I love,
03:56I go home and visit the people that live in the house
03:58that I grew up in still.
04:00So I know them.
04:01I got my baby crib back,
04:02but it was a different experience
04:05for my mom being pregnant at 16.
04:07She wanted to show me the world.
04:09And I think I was kind of speaking for her a little bit.
04:12We're the only ones still here.
04:13We fucking suck.
04:15We're leaving, you guys.
04:16We're not going to be stuck here.
04:18All of the girls in the movie were older than me.
04:21So I felt very protected
04:24because it was such a drastic change
04:26from what I was used to.
04:28There were obviously a couple of uncomfortable moments
04:31for me in particular,
04:33like they wanted two guys dancing on me
04:36when I was in my bikini.
04:37And, you know,
04:38I said I didn't feel comfortable with that.
04:41And the girls decided to be the ones that were beside me.
04:45And then the boys were beside them.
04:47So little things like that, that helped me.
04:50I'm not afraid of dancing with a guy now,
04:52but back then I just was a little nervous.
04:54And he just always,
04:55he just always was,
04:56he was a great director.
04:57I would do anything to work with him again.
04:59And we still are in contact.
05:01He's just really,
05:02he's really good.
05:03He'll pull it out of you.
05:08Hey, come over.
05:14Yeah.
05:15Sit down.
05:16Half the building's in here.
05:18I'm Oliver, by the way,
05:19Oliver Putnam.
05:20Charles, Charles Hayden Savage.
05:23Hey, I'm Mabel.
05:25No really, what is, oh.
05:27I don't know why every time I see them,
05:29I want to cry.
05:30That was the first day I ever met them.
05:33And we had a lot of fun.
05:35I never met them.
05:36And we did this scene,
05:38which was perfect because we were meeting each other.
05:42They could not have made me feel more comfortable
05:45as much as I joke that I'm younger than them
05:47and don't know any of their work.
05:49I understood their status,
05:51meaning just what they've created in their lives.
05:54So I understood that and I was very nervous
05:57and I just wanted to be on my best behavior,
05:59be on time, be professional.
06:00And they immediately pulled me out of it.
06:03And, you know, just included me from day one.
06:07And they'll tell me even to this day,
06:09they're like, we had no idea.
06:10We were so nervous you were gonna be a nightmare
06:13or like late all the time.
06:15And I'm just so proud that I can call these people
06:19allies and friends.
06:20We got our places 30 years ago
06:22when the Arconia was affordable.
06:23But you, would your parents have a place there?
06:25Good God, you don't have to answer that, Mabel.
06:28I mean, unless you want to, because I'm also curious.
06:31I think Steve and Marty both have similar work ethics
06:35as far as technicality, which is being on time,
06:38being professional, but being kind
06:41and also understanding when you need space,
06:43how to handle a situation.
06:45If you're uncomfortable, how you handle a situation.
06:48These are people who respect the craft.
06:52And I really, really admire that.
06:54And even when we had Meryl on the show,
06:57just seeing someone where she's at in life,
07:01she would stay and just be off camera
07:04for 12 hours for the other actors.
07:06She would sing and ask the cameraman how he was doing
07:10and how many kids he had.
07:12And that to me shows an elegance, a class,
07:16something that maybe is missing a little bit
07:19when you go on sets.
07:21I think I'm very lucky
07:22because I can carry those lessons on with me.
07:25I'm strong enough to say, actually, no,
07:27this isn't what I want.
07:28And this is how it should be
07:30because I believe in my character this much.
07:33I think I'll always carry that forever with me.
07:35So I'm grateful.
07:37Sometimes it's a bit too intense.
07:39I mean, I'll be wearing, I wear, you know,
07:42very cool clothing, but nothing provocative in any way.
07:46And Steve will just say, you look lovely today.
07:48And then he'll go, can I say that to you?
07:50I was like, yes, it's okay.
07:53I'm literally wearing a sweater and it's fine.
07:57Does it hurt?
07:58No, I mean, kind of.
08:00Does it affect your brains?
08:02No.
08:03Does your penis work?
08:05You want a menu?
08:05Can we get a menu?
08:07What would you like?
08:08You want a sandwich?
08:08You want some eggs, maybe?
08:10The waffles are really good, right, Trev?
08:12I remember meeting Paul for the first time.
08:16And then since then, we've done, I think,
08:18four or five projects together now.
08:20I think we've done a lot of projects together.
08:22I think we've done a lot of projects together.
08:24Four or five projects together now.
08:26I had the biggest crush on him.
08:28I still do.
08:29But he's like the, he's just really great
08:32with working with people,
08:33especially with both of us at the time.
08:35We didn't know, at least I didn't know what I was doing.
08:38I think finding this character
08:41and stepping into something a bit different,
08:43this was like me putting my toes in the water.
08:46Yeah.
08:48Yeah, the waffles are good, or?
08:49Yeah, your penis works.
08:51The waffles suck.
08:55I'm Dot.
08:55I was, at the time, inspired
08:57when Jennifer Lawrence did Winter's Bond.
08:59I just loved how she put so much care
09:02into her character choices.
09:03And they were all different but had a bit of an edge
09:07and yet softness to it.
09:09So I felt like there was something in this movie
09:12that was good and real.
09:14And yeah, she still is an inspiration to me.
09:18Whoa, this place is a trip.
09:20It sure is.
09:23Oh, Caleb!
09:24Hi.
09:25I adore that boy.
09:27He is so great and very talented,
09:29as are all of them in the scene.
09:32Nice shirt.
09:33Nosferatu.
09:34I'm so happy.
09:36It's really cool.
09:38Thanks.
09:40I make them.
09:41How about this?
09:42I make them.
09:43How about this?
09:43I make them.
09:44How about this?
09:45I make them.
09:46How about this?
09:47How about that?
09:48Earth off its axis.
09:50End of the world.
09:51This was a little gift.
09:53I'll say that.
09:54Because all the roles that we've talked about,
09:56I have auditioned for multiple times or fought for.
09:59I will thank Jim Jarmusch and his daughter.
10:02She was a huge fan of mine.
10:05He decided to meet with me.
10:06So we talked for about two hours
10:08about projects and other things in life.
10:10We were speaking about zombies.
10:12And I told him I used to have bad dreams about zombies.
10:16So I would always run to hide somewhere
10:18or I'd go underneath something.
10:19And that's all I could really remember,
10:21but it would be reoccurring.
10:23In my dreams, I thought that it represented the world
10:28because I felt like I was always running from something.
10:31This was really fun because, you know,
10:34we were running from something.
10:46I don't even know where to begin with Emilio Perez.
10:58Carla alone is unbelievably outstanding.
11:03She has this power that it was intimidating.
11:07You know, I felt the pressure.
11:09I know Jacques has a very interesting way of directing,
11:12but he also loves to see what happens
11:15when he gives one direction to Carla
11:17and gives another direction to me.
11:19So there's a bit of fear,
11:22but also I remember just giving her the biggest hug
11:26after that and it was kind of a big release.
11:29But I loved that.
11:30I mean, the whole point of me wanting to do that project
11:33was for those feelings to come.
11:46I read the script.
11:47It was wild.
11:48It was such a wild ride.
11:49And then you think to yourself,
11:50how are they going to create this?
11:52But then you have someone like Jacques where you're like,
11:54there's going to be magic to this.
11:56I know there is.
11:57And I went into the audition.
11:59I was so nervous.
12:00I tried to talk to him casually first
12:02to like have that be a warm up.
12:05And then I just, I wasn't really making sense.
12:07I was like, can I just, I'm just going to audition.
12:10And there's a scene in the movie
12:13and a number that I perform.
12:16He didn't give me any sort of direction.
12:18He just said, act drunk,
12:21sing the song like you're angry,
12:24throw your shoes if you want,
12:26do whatever you feel.
12:28I just lost myself.
12:29I don't remember looking at anyone.
12:31There's just a video camera pointing
12:33and I just, I lost it.
12:34And I tried to have fun
12:36and bring back the old tour Selena,
12:39just tried to do whatever I could.
12:41And at the end he got so excited.
12:44He was like, yes, yes, yes.
12:46And even if I didn't get the part,
12:48I remember walking out going,
12:50I at least made some sort of effect
12:53and that made me proud as an actor.
12:55And yeah, and also I feel like I earned the role.
12:58Jack had no idea who I was
13:00and that makes me happy
13:02because it feels like I deserve to be here.
13:05I trust people that really kind of just want to speak
13:10to me as the individual and not anything else.
13:14So it's very refreshing.
13:15I appreciate when people don't let the noise bother them.
13:24I'm not looking to be the star of anything.
13:27I'm looking to be challenged and moved
13:30and choosing roles that make me think,
13:34that make people talk.
13:35But I do feel like it's just the beginning, hopefully.
13:40I'm not looking to be the star of anything.
13:42I'm looking to be challenged and moved.
13:45I'm not looking to be the star of anything.
