00:00Hey guys, welcome to our Food and Eating in Japan playlist, and our mini-series on ¥500 meals in Japan.
00:07Saizeriya is a chain of family restaurants in Japan, probably one of the cheapest, if not the cheapest.
00:15Almost everything on their menu is ¥500 or less.
00:20There are a few things that are a bit more expensive, but everything you're going to look at here will be ¥500 or less.
00:26I thought they were all ¥500, so it's about $5, right?
00:30And it's pretty good!
00:32Any restaurant in Japan that sold food that wasn't good would go out of business really quickly,
00:40because Japanese people tend not to complain, but if they're disappointed by service or by quality,
00:45just once, they won't go back again.
00:47Those ¥400 pizzas, $4 pizzas, it's pretty ridiculous.
00:53It really is pretty good.
00:56So it's not spectacular.
00:58Some of the family restaurants do have amazingly good quality food and really impressive.
01:03This is sort of a bit more budget type.
01:06Those ones on the right there actually come in a plastic tray,
01:10and you get the impression that it's been taken out of a refrigerator and put into an oven.
01:15So a lot of these dishes are probably pre-made.
01:19These pastas are $5.
01:22But it's good! It's good.
01:24It all tastes reasonably fresh and all tastes tasty.
01:28So we don't go to Socelia very often, but we're happy to if we're hungry and we happen to spot one.
01:33We're happy to pull in there, because you can eat your fill and it costs you very little.
01:39And some good stuff, you know, chicken salad there, all sorts of salads, they're always fresh.
01:45Corn soup, well corn soup for $1.50, right?
01:50It's really good.
01:52Onion soup for $3.
01:54And the breads, their breads are pretty good.
01:57What do you call that, focaccia is it?
01:59Tasty bread.
02:01So you're getting the idea.
02:04Good variety of food, pretty fresh and tasty, ridiculously cheap.
02:11One of the cheapest restaurants you'll find in Japan for sure.
02:14Fried chicken for $3.
02:17Sausages and potato there for $4.
02:24So yeah, it's good. It's definitely worth a shot.
02:27And if you're on a budget, you'll love this place, because $5 you can eat pretty well.
02:32There's a $5 pizza.
02:35Corn and mayo, that's a thing.
02:37Well, any restaurant in Japan that sells any sort of pizza will usually include a corn and mayo one,
02:43because they're really popular in Japan, the corn and mayo pizza.
02:47Oh, they've got lamb too. Lamb is pretty rare in Japan, you don't often come across lamb.
02:52But the one on the right there, that's lamb and potato and vegetables.
02:56And they're pretty good at lamb, it's pretty tasty.
02:58The other one was a Doria, and this is a cheese, hamburger, potato, corn, bread thing.
03:07That was pretty good.
03:10Ah, it's fried chicken. I'm told that was very good too, someone was very happy to eat that.
03:15So yeah, Sauseria, you always walk out feeling full and happy, and it doesn't cost much money, so yeah, we like it.
03:23Oh, these things, what's that, cinnamon, is it focaccia you call that?
03:28Cinnamon bread with a tasty ice cream thing, which sounds odd, but it's actually really good.
03:36So yeah, that's Sauseria, 500 yen meals.
