The MoonWalk Scotland returned to Edinburgh last night with hundreds of women, men and young people having walked through the streets in glittery attire to raise money for charity.

Setting off from Holyrood Park shortly before 11pm, 800 walkers wearing brightly decorated bras and colourful ‘bra t-shirts’ walked half and full marathons through the capital to raise money for breast and other cancers. Dozens of walkers also took on a walking challenge virtually in their own areas.

00:00Crowd Cheering
00:18I want to thank, take the opportunity to thank all of you because without all of you
00:39we couldn't raise anything and do any of the wonderful things we do. So a big cheer for
00:44all of you. Come on. And I also want to give a big cheer to all our volunteers who certainly
00:52could do nothing without them. So a big cheer for them as well.
00:58We've done many Edinburgh moonwalks including over the moon which was, you did it twice
01:06so you finished and then you did it again.
01:08This is our first one back for a while since Covid got in the way.
01:14We just had a reunion with Nina and Sam which is lovely because we've been on
01:18many adventures with Nina. So that was really good but yeah it used to always just be like
01:25an incomplete reunion.
01:27You know there's some people that have been really big supporters almost since we started.
01:32We have, there's a few ladies who have done every single moonwalk you know like 26 of them
01:38and it's amazing and you know people, we don't call it the Walk the Walk family but our supporters
01:45call it the Walk the Walk family because they feel like they are part of a family and yeah
01:52and I do too. It's really lovely you know you come to an occasion like this and you see familiar
01:57people that maybe walked one year and then they're volunteering the next year and then
02:02they come back to walk. So it's really special, it is really special.
02:06Edinburgh is really supportive of the moonwalk, it's always been really supportive.
02:11It's a special one isn't it but it's nice to be back, back into our little family.
02:18People are all here for different reasons I mean it might just be because they love
02:22the idea of walking around Edinburgh in a bra you know. Some people have got family and friends
02:28that are going through breast cancer and for others you know they probably were in the pub
02:35and their friends signed them up and they didn't know what they were, another people were doing.
02:39Everyone has a, but everyone has a story to tell and I think no matter what brings people here
02:45I think they arrive and they're almost quite surprised at just how everybody is together.
02:53You know we always say you're never on your own if you do a moonwalk, it's you, you're part of a,
02:59you're part of the whole thing you know everybody's here together and it's just a lovely community.
