00:00I didn't think you'd be the one asking me this question.
00:03Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most
00:07jaw-dropping, awkward, and uncomfortable moments that have occurred on the red carpet
00:12since 2014.
00:13He just kind of goes to give me like a peck on my elbow, and at the same time I'm going to
00:17give him a hug. So all of a sudden his face ends up in my armpit.
00:20It's so dashed, yeah.
00:22Number 10. Kristen Stewart takes off her heels.
00:26The Cannes Film Festival has long been a hotspot for protests, particularly by
00:30women speaking out against gender discrimination in the industry.
00:33After posing for pictures in her silver Chanel mini dress, the Twilight star
00:37dumped her black Christian Louboutin heels and walked barefoot on the red carpet
00:41into a screening for Spike Lee's movie.
00:44In 2018, actress Kristen Stewart decided to make a bold statement on the carpet.
00:49She ditched her stilettos right in front of photographers and walked down the rest
00:53of the carpet barefoot.
00:55Stewart has spoken out against the rule in the past, saying, quote,
00:59If you're not asking guys to wear heels in a dress, you cannot ask me either.
01:04Stewart, who was a jury member that year, was reportedly protesting an unspoken
01:09festival rule that requires women to wear heels.
01:12This controversial dress code first sparked outrage in 2015 when it was reported
01:17that a group of women were turned away from a screening for wearing flats.
01:21Stewart isn't the first actress to take issue with the strict dress code at the Palais.
01:25At the 2016 premiere of her film Money Monster, Julia Roberts also went shoeless.
01:32Stewart's barefoot rebellion earned her praise for challenging a rule many deemed
01:36unfairly discriminatory against women.
01:39Number nine, the entire Don't Worry Darling premiere.
01:42The 2022 thriller Don't Worry Darling was already causing a ruckus
01:46before it even hit theaters.
01:48Yes, you may.
01:54Bye bye.
01:55Bye.
01:57Rumors first buzzed about Shia LaBeouf's alleged firing, as well as on-set clashes
02:02between director Olivia Wilde and Florence Pugh.
02:05While everyone involved quickly denied the gossip, the film's premiere at Venice
02:09painted a different picture.
02:10For one, Pugh skipped the press conference entirely.
02:13Florence is a force, and we are so grateful that she's able to make it tonight
02:19despite being in production on Dune.
02:21I know as a director how disruptive it is to lose an actor even for a day.
02:26When she finally graced the red carpet with the rest of the cast,
02:29the tension between her and Wilde was palpable.
02:32The two barely made eye contact and avoided taking pictures together.
02:35Throw in Wilde's romance with Harry Styles and the video allegedly showing
02:39Styles spitting on Chris Pine,
02:41and you have arguably the most bizarre film release in recent history.
02:45Harry did not spit on me.
02:47Harry's a very, very kind guy.
02:54Ukrainian prankster Vitaly Saduk has made headlines multiple times
02:58for physically assaulting multiple celebrities at various events.
03:02What is wrong with you?
03:04Why are you doing all these pranks, and what are you trying to prove?
03:15At the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, actress America Ferreira became his latest target.
03:20As Ferreira posed for pictures with her co-stars at the screening of How to Train Your Dragon 2,
03:25Saduk crawled up to her and poked his head under her dress.
03:29Ferreira was understandably horrified by the bizarre incident,
03:32but managed to keep her composure while security dragged Saduk out from under her dress and hauled him away.
03:37Despite calls for him to be charged with sexual assault,
03:40it appears Saduk somehow escaped legal repercussions.
03:43However, his antics cost him his job at the Ukrainian TV channel 1&1.
03:48I would feel bad if I had bad intentions.
03:51My intention is never to offend someone, so I never will cross the line.
03:567. Debra Messing Calls Out E!
03:58It takes some serious guts to call out an organization to their face,
04:02and actress Debra Messing clearly has that in spades.
04:05In December 2017, E! anchor Kat Sadler announced her departure from the network
04:10after discovering she was earning about half of her male co-host's salary.
04:15I really thought they were going to do the right thing, right?
04:17This was a dream job. I'd been there forever. This was my work family.
04:20And by the way, I wasn't even asking for equal pay.
04:23I was asking for ballpark.
04:25The following month, while attending the Golden Globes,
04:27actress Debra Messing found herself being interviewed on the red carpet
04:31by E! News host Juliana Rancic.
04:34We want diversity. We want intersectional gender parity. We want equal pay.
04:41Without missing a beat, Messing brought up Sadler's situation
04:44and used the opportunity to spotlight the network's questionable stance on gender pay equality.
04:49Her statement clearly caught Rancic off guard,
04:51as the host quickly redirected the conversation to the MeToo movement
04:55and the Time's Up initiative.
04:57You know, I was so shocked to hear that E! doesn't believe in paying their female co-hosts
05:04the same as their male co-hosts. I mean, I miss Kat Sadler.
05:08Number six, Iggy Azalea is asked the tough questions.
05:12The Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards are where you go to get slimed
05:15and watch kids run wild with joy.
05:18No one else has that much slime to watch, so I really like that.
05:22So, imagine rapper Iggy Azalea's surprise when she walked the red carpet in 2015
05:27and was hit with an unexpectedly tough question.
05:30Azalea had previously spoken about getting breast implants,
05:33and when she was interviewed by child actor Nicholas Bechtel,
05:36the young lad wasted no time in asking her about the procedure.
05:40You talked about getting some work done.
05:43Why did you feel the need to be open and tell people?
05:46Of all the questions she thought she might face, this one was definitely not on her radar.
05:50Nevertheless, an amused Azalea delivered a thoughtful response
05:54emphasizing the importance of being open about such procedures
05:57to help other women feel more comfortable discussing them.
06:00And I wanted to kind of tell women that might be thinking about it my experience
06:04and that it cannot necessarily be a bad thing.
06:07Number five, the very tan Rashida Jones.
06:10When interviewing a celebrity, the least a reporter can do is a bit of homework.
06:14This simple step could have spared TNT reporter Danielle Dembski
06:18from a major facepalm moment at the 2015 SAG Awards.
06:22Come on up, Rashida.
06:23Come on up.
06:24Hello.
06:25You look amazing.
06:26Hello, wow.
06:27Dembski was chatting with actress Rashida Jones,
06:29who is of African-American descent, on the red carpet
06:32when she made an ill-formed comment about Jones' appearance,
06:35complimenting her on a great tan.
06:37You look like you've just come off like an island or something.
06:40You're very tan, very tropical.
06:42It's the kind of remark you instantly regret the second it leaves your mouth.
06:45Jones' face quickly registered the awkwardness, but she handled it like a pro,
06:49brushing the comment off with a smile.
06:51However, viewers at home weren't as forgiving
06:53and promptly called Dembski out for the blunder.
06:56I mean, you know, I'm ethnic.
06:58Me too.
07:00It's just being ethnic, that's what it is.
07:02Number four, Jerry Seinfeld refuses to hug Kesha.
07:06They say never meet your heroes because you might end up disappointed.
07:09Pop star Kesha knows that all too well.
07:12Do you want to know the whole story?
07:14Sure.
07:15It's really sad.
07:17In 2017, while attending a Hollywood event,
07:19Kesha spotted a TV hero of hers on the red carpet,
07:22comedian Jerry Seinfeld.
07:24Naturally, she ran over, introduced herself, and asked for a hug.
07:27Seinfeld, who was in the middle of an interview,
07:29was clearly taken aback by her.
07:31I love you so much.
07:33Oh, thanks.
07:34Can I give you a hug?
07:35No, thanks.
07:36Although he initially greeted her pretty positively,
07:38he made her request for a hug three times.
07:40Even worse, he moved away from the singer
07:42to prevent her from touching him further.
07:44To call it embarrassing would be an understatement.
07:47According to Kesha, it was the saddest moment of her life.
07:50It was like the most depressing and hilarious,
07:55but also so sad.
07:58It was like the saddest moment of my life.
08:01Number three, Jim Carrey's bizarre interview.
08:04Jim Carrey is no stranger to stealing a scene or two.
08:07But when he hit the red carpet for New York Fashion Week in 2017,
08:10he made his presence exceedingly known
08:13just by being his authentic self.
08:15I've covered a lot of fashion weeks.
08:17This is the first time I've run into Jim Carrey.
08:20Wait, tell me.
08:21Is it true you're wandering the streets?
08:23You need a date to the party?
08:24What's up?
08:25No, no, no.
08:26I'm doing just fine.
08:27He immediately made his rejection of the event itself
08:29clear to the interviewer, Kat Sadler,
08:32by claiming that he's in attendance
08:34because it was the most meaningless thing he could find.
08:37When Sadler pressed on about the party's celebration of icons,
08:41Carrey simply laughed it off.
08:43I don't believe in icons.
08:45I don't believe in personalities.
08:47I believe that peace lies beyond personality,
08:50beyond invention and disguise,
08:52beyond the red S that you wear on your chest
08:55that makes bullets bounce off.
08:57His nihilistic approach to this appearance
08:59was extremely unexpected.
09:01As you can tell by Sadler's wide-eyed glances
09:03to the camera,
09:04despite coming off as a bit rude,
09:06it's refreshing to hear a unique perspective
09:08at one of these ritzy star-studded events.
09:11There is no me.
09:12There's no you.
09:13No.
09:14We're not here. This is a dream.
09:15There's just things happening.
09:17And there are clusters of tetrahedrons
09:19moving around together.
09:20Okay.
09:21Number two,
09:22John Travolta kisses Scarlett Johansson.
09:24Whenever John Travolta shows up at the Oscars,
09:27you can bet he'll find a way to get himself in the news.
09:30Apparently I played with her chin too much,
09:32but, you know...
09:33You can never play with a woman's chin too much.
09:35You can't.
09:36You famously or infamously,
09:38however you want it,
09:39you had this,
09:40you mispronounced her name.
09:41What happened there?
09:42One year after his Adele Dazeem gaffe,
09:44Travolta decided to up the ante,
09:46this time on the red carpet
09:48with actress Scarlett Johansson.
09:50As Johansson posed for the cameras,
09:52Travolta swooped in,
09:53wrapped his arms around her waist,
09:54and planted an awkward kiss on her cheek.
09:56It lasted barely one second,
09:58but that was more than enough
09:59to make everyone watching squirm.
10:01Despite the public's collective cringe,
10:03Johansson has since come forward
10:05to defend Travolta,
10:06calling the encounter
10:07very sweet and totally welcome.
10:09This wouldn't be Johansson's
10:10last awkward brush at the Oscars.
10:12In 2017,
10:13she fended off a ridiculous question
10:15from Ryan Seacrest.
10:17You never have enough rehearsal,
10:18especially when you're walking across.
10:19Do you actually wear the shoes
10:21that you're wearing tonight for the rehearsal?
10:23Uh...
10:24What a ridiculous question.
10:26Why?

10:44Juliana Rancic's comments about Zendaya
10:46In 2015,
10:47actress Zendaya appeared
10:48on the Oscars red carpet
10:50rocking a simple yet elegant dress
10:52with her hair styled in dreadlocks.
10:54This look may have earned
10:55the admiration of many,
10:56but fashion police host
10:58Juliana Rancic
10:59definitely wasn't one of them.
11:01There was the entire exchange
11:02about Zendaya.
11:03Yes.
11:04And you had made a comment
11:05on the show
11:06that a lot of people
11:07perceived as racist,
11:08including Zendaya.
11:09During the night's fashion review,
11:11Rancic made a bizarre remark
11:12quipping that Zendaya's hair
11:14looked like it smelled
11:15like patchouli oil or weed.
11:17I made a reference
11:18to the hippie culture.
11:20I talked about patchouli oil,
11:21which is a hippie perfume.
11:23And in the editing process,
11:26some of the gestures I made,
11:28some of the things I said
11:29were taken out for time.
11:30This comment sparked
11:31immediate backlash
11:32for its racially insensitive undertones.
11:34Zendaya herself responded
11:35with a powerful statement
11:36on social media,
11:37calling out the ignorance
11:38and celebrating the beauty
11:39and cultural significance
11:40of her hairstyle.
11:41Facing a flood of criticism,
11:43Rancic acknowledged her misstep
11:45and offered a public apology
11:46to Zendaya.
11:47Sometimes you gotta stand up
11:48for what you believe is right.
11:49I always say that
11:50and you can't be afraid of that.
11:52So I wrote everything
11:53I had to say in that.
11:54Good for you.
11:55And that's just what it was.
11:57Which one of these carpet moments
11:58stunned you the most?
11:59Let us know in the comments below.
12:01I mean, you gotta admit
12:02it's completely meaningless.
12:04Well, they say
12:05they're celebrating icons.
12:06Do you agree with our picks?
