The father of a 14-year-old boy accused of fatally shooting four people at a Georgia high school and wounding nine others was arrested Thursday and faces charges including second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter for letting his son possess a weapon, authorities said.

00:06I am assigned to preside over this morning's proceedings.
00:10Mr. Gray, I do need to inquire as to whether you are able to read and write the English
00:14language.
00:15I also want to inform you, well, I want to ask you, do you understand that you have the
00:23right to be represented by an attorney in these proceedings?
00:26You are, in fact, represented today, is that correct?
00:35I want to inform you of the charges that you currently face.
00:41In essence, you are charged with four counts of felony murder, as outlined in the state
00:49warrants that have been issued against you.
00:51All right, Mr. Gray, we visited a moment ago.
00:53I just need to correct a couple of things on the record.
00:56I correctly told you the maximum penalty for the crimes for which you are charged.
01:03That's correct, except for the fact that you are under 18 years old.
01:08So I wanted to inform you and make it clear to you that the penalty for the crimes for
01:16which you are charged does not include death.
01:20It includes life without the possibility of parole or life with the possibility of parole.
01:26I would invite you, Mr. Harmon, to inform the court as to whether there is a request
01:32for bond at this time.
01:33At this time, Your Honor, there is not a request for bond.
01:36We will file the appropriate motions if that becomes necessary.

01:42An indictment by the grand jury for most felony offenses or accusations, well, you have the
01:49right to receive an indictment for these offenses.
01:52And I assume Mr. Brad Smith is here on behalf of the DA's office, or he is our district
01:58attorney, and he's accompanied by Ms. Patricia Brooks, who is his chief assistant.

02:22And at this hearing, I'm first going to ask you just a few questions, and then I'm going
02:27to advise you of your rights and also let you know about a preliminary hearing.
02:33You're charged with four counts of felony involuntary manslaughter.
02:40You're charged with eight counts of felony cruelty to children in the second degree.
02:48Felony murder in the second degree.
02:50The maximum penalty for each count is up to 30 years' imprisonment.
02:58For felony involuntary manslaughter, of course, again, there are four counts.
03:04The maximum penalty for each of those offenses is 10 years' imprisonment.
03:12For the eight felony cruelty to children counts, the maximum penalty under the law for each
03:19of those eight counts is 10 years' imprisonment.
03:26For a maximum total possible penalty for the charges that you currently are facing of 180
03:34years' imprisonment.
