00:00This is the damage which was done to a Sheffield youth club after a fire, which
00:06firefighters now believe to have been deliberately started, broke out. Five fire
00:11engines were sent to the Oscarthorpe Pavilion on Earl Marshall Road near Fir
00:16Vale on Wednesday afternoon after the building had gone up in flames. They were
00:21on the scene for several hours and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said
00:25on Wednesday that the cause was still under investigation but they now believe
00:29it was started deliberately. It's understood that the building was not
00:34derelict but youth clubs which had been operating from the building had moved
00:38out due to planned refurbishment works which was due to start this week.
00:43Sheffield Council had grant funding from the government's youth investment fund to
00:48refurbish part of the building. The improvement works had been due to start
00:54this Monday, September the 2nd, but the work has been delayed due to the need to
01:00assess the fire damage. The council is now in contact with the funders to find
01:05out how the fire might affect the grant funding. Sheffield Council said it could
01:13not comment at this stage because the investigation into the fire is still
01:17ongoing.
