00:00Friday MLB headlines to recap the end of the midweek sets before we set the stage for a
00:08weekend.
00:09Not many more weekends left in this Major League Baseball regular season.
00:14Now in the final month, again, less than 25 games remain for all 30 clubs around MLB.
00:20It's a good thing the Astros have built up a substantial advantage over the Mariners
00:25in the AL West, still leading by four and a half games, even after a sweep in Cincy,
00:33but not the Astros over the Reds, Cincy over Houston.
00:37The Astros were booked as a minus-166 road money line favorite yesterday in the Reds
00:43against the Reds in the finale.
00:45Ty France, a solo shot, the only run of the game as Cincy wins one zip.
00:49Listen, I've been saying it for a while, Ben.
00:52My question is, do we all really think this was some sort of great Astros team, or is
00:58the rest of that division just absolutely putrid, and they're winning by default?
01:05And I think that's kind of the answer here, because I'm not sold.
01:09I am not sold on the Astros.
01:10I have not been sold on the Astros.
01:12Not the pitching, not the bullpen.
01:14I think they're too top-heavy, but the problem is everyone else in that division is putrid.
01:20So they're the best of the rest, and that's kind of how I look at Houston.
01:25Yeah, I would think that the Astros still have an opportunity based on playoff pedigree,
01:30but they have struggled a little bit as of late.
01:33They entered the week in Cincinnati on a five-game win streak.
01:37They had dropped six of eight prior to the five-game win streak, a little bit streaky
01:41here as we start September.
01:43Elsewhere around the bigs yesterday, Parker Meadows, welcome to the show in San Diego
01:48against one of the best closers in the bigs, Robert Suarez, for the Padres.
01:54Bases loaded down by three in the top of the ninth, Meadows hits a grand salami to win
02:00it for Detroit.
02:01The Tigers have been playing great baseball here in the month of August, now into early
02:05September.
02:06They've won 11 of their last 15, probably a little bit too late, though, for Detroit
02:12to make some noise in the American League wildcard chase.
02:15The Giants knocking off the D-backs yesterday, walking it off up in San Francisco.
02:21And as you see on the bottom of that screen, Luis Hill set to return as a starter for now
02:27for the Yankees, a potential bullpen guy by the time we get to October.
02:32Yeah, it's the Detroit home run, by the way, opposite field on a almost 101-mile-per-hour
02:39fastball, just absolutely phenomenal by the young guy.
02:43What a pitching battle between Merrill Kelly and Snell yesterday.
02:46That was some fantastic baseball.
02:49And Luis Hill, again, I wish he'd get back sixth.
02:53He'd probably have a better chance of hitting over 250, unlike the rest of the lineup for
02:58the Yankees.
02:59But having an arm, if he's healthy, and I think that's the big if here, if he is truly
03:04healthy and ready to go, he's an addition.
03:07If he is just doing it, Ben, because he's trying to work through something here, that's
03:12a very dangerous proposition for this Yankee team.
