00:00Every year, community vigils over and over and over again.
00:16These horrific and disturbing deaths and vile violence must be prevented.
00:22But reaching a deal with the states and territories wasn't without its challenges.
00:26You can't just magic these workers up and those comments yesterday from Amanda were
00:32pretty unhelpful.
00:33Some lashed out after Social Services Minister Amanda Rishworth accused them of breaking
00:37their commitment to hire more frontline workers.
00:40Despite the tension, states and territories agreed to match $351 million in federal funding
00:46for frontline services.
00:47There's a need to continue that funding and indeed even beyond the five years.
00:53The package will cost $4.7 billion over five years to prevent perpetrators from escalating
00:59their abuse, support children and young people exposed to violence, tackle how alcohol aggravates
01:05abuse and support frontline services like community legal centres.
01:09They're getting a funding extension but they'll have to wait until July next year to see the
01:13money.
01:14We're turning away people now and we're going to have to continue to do that.
01:18Legal funding isn't the only spot where governments are going to continue to be under pressure.
01:22National Cabinet's own review into how to best prevent violence against women called
01:26for restrictions on when alcohol can be delivered to homes.
01:29Today the group agreed to review how that could be implemented.
01:32Even just shifting back the hour of closing of alcohol retail from 11 o'clock to 10 o'clock
01:38makes a significant difference.
01:41A review of a review, but this time with some hope for action.
