Kazakhstan prairies ready to rumble for World Nomad Games in Astana

Over 2,000 athletes are going to revive ancient warfare skills into sports disciplines such as horseback archery and falconry.

00:00As the Paralympics wrap up in Paris, another global sporting event begins in Astana, the

00:10World Nomad Games.

00:13Athletes use ancient warfare skills of historically nomadic peoples in sports like horse wrestling,

00:21horseback archery, martial arts and falconry, but also compete in cultural and scientific

00:28games.

00:29The aim is to develop and preserve the ethno-cultural movement, which has in host country Kazakhstan

00:37one of its most important cradles.

00:59Over 2,000 athletes and around 90 countries will be there.

01:04The list of participating nations has grown way beyond those with a nomadic heritage.

01:10What's interesting is that we see countries coming, the geography of participating countries

01:16from Australia to Canada, from South Africa to Great Britain, those states that have little

01:23nomadic history in the past.

01:26So meaning that these games are actually going around the world and we see this great interest.

01:32The World Nomad Games take place from Sunday the 8th of September to the 13th of September.
