00:00I think it's a credit to Bill that this news will come as a surprise because at no point
00:06in the past two and a bit years would any observer of Australian politics think that
00:12Bill Shorten was taking it easy or slowing down.
00:16Through his years as leader no one worked harder than Bill.
00:19No one brought more energy, enthusiasm, ideas and ambition to advocating for the need for
00:26a Labor government.
00:27Over 30 years ago when I joined the Australian Workers' Union I was driven by the belief
00:36that everyone, regardless of circumstance, deserves an equal opportunity.
00:41This is always when Labor is at its best, when we are the party of ambition and compassion.
00:50When we use the power of politics to stand up for those who were denied power by the
00:55circumstances of their birth or the shafts of fate, the Prime Minister gets that.
01:00It's what drives our entire government.
