00:00Hello, beautiful people of New Hampshire.
00:05Welcome to Northampton, and welcome to Throwback Brewery.
00:12My name's Nicole, this is Annette, this is Carrie.
00:18Together we co-own this beautiful business, and today we're so, so honored to host all of you in a real feminine-ominon.
00:28The next president of the United States, Kamala Harris.
00:39As small business owners, we know what it takes to watch a dream become a reality and to bring a small business to life.
00:48It takes a lot of passion and tireless effort.
00:52It's not easy, but it is possible, and it all comes down to opportunity.
00:59In July of 2011, Annette and I started selling beer in a little warehouse across the street here on the seacoast of New Hampshire.
01:08Four years later, we dragged this one in, and this small women-owned business opened the doors of our restaurant for the very first time.
01:21After years of very, very hard work, look at us now.
01:30We're located on this gorgeous 12-acre farm with a hop yard, chickens, pigs, goats, donkeys, of course,
01:41and solar panels that help power our brewery.
01:47And solar panels that I should add, where we were able to install because of a REIT grant.
01:53We have a new, I can't even, I don't even know where you are, climate battery coming?
01:57Everything's all different.
01:58We have a climate battery coming thanks to the funding from the administration and Vice President Harris.
02:08All of this, all of this has been possible because we had the opportunity to chase this dream and to make it succeed.
02:16We are able to expand this current location in part thanks to this administration's credit initiative for small businesses and the American Rescue Plan.
02:29Over the past decade, we have certainly grown, but our core values of sustainability, of community building, of inclusiveness and kindness have not changed.
02:47As a small business, we've never, I mean, we've never, ever stepped out into the political arena.
02:53But at this point, we kind of figured, do we have a choice?
02:58It's a choice we have on one side between accepting and appreciating differences, leading with love and openness and empathy,
03:09versus a side that thrives on hate and fear tactics.
03:12So it's not really a choice to us. It's a no-brainer.
03:20And speaking as the daughter, and I'll try not to tear up here, of a man, the best dad, amazing businesswoman, he was an ultimate feminist, a really kind soul, my best friend.
03:32He was also a lifelong Republican, my dad.
03:35So to me, this is not about party. It's really about values.
03:44And so we're here to say that Kamala Harris shares our core values.
03:48She represents the future. She's smart. She's confident.
03:53And she leads from a place of goodness, which is really what we care about most.
04:02As president, she will build an opportunity economy that is fully focused on the middle class.
04:08She'll bring together all of us, entrepreneurs and workers, large and small businesses alike, to invest in America, create jobs, and deliver for all Americans.
04:18Her proposal to cut red tape will make it easier for throwback brewery and small businesses like ours to grow and hire more workers.
04:31She'll make it easier for more dreams to become a reality.
04:37You can clap. That's all right.
04:43She represents the best of us and New Hampshire. We are not going back to the fear and hatred.
04:48It's time for a new way forward.
04:54Now it is.
05:04Thank you. That's pretty good.
05:06Now it is truly it's honestly really, truly our distinct pleasure to introduce a real champion for small businesses, for entrepreneurs, for working people and for all of us here in New Hampshire and across the nation.
05:21Vice President Harris is the daughter of a working mother who grew up in a middle class neighborhood.
05:27She believes that when the middle class is strong, America is strong.
05:35She has made clear that building up the middle class will be a defining goal of her presidency.
05:41Vice President Harris and Governor Wallace will deliver for Americans who are looking for a new way forward.
05:47They're fighting for an America where everyone has the opportunity to succeed, the opportunity to build a business and create a better life, the opportunity to not just get by, but to get ahead.
06:03Please join us in welcoming to New Hampshire the next President of the United States, Kamala Harris.
06:33We love America! We love New Hampshire!
07:03Hi everyone! Hi!
07:33Good afternoon, Northampton!
07:37Oh my goodness.
07:41Can we hear it for Nicole and Throwback Brewing?
07:45Kamala! Kamala! Kamala!
07:55Hi guys. Thank you. Thank you.
08:00Thank you all. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
08:05It's so good to be back in New Hampshire. Thank you all.
08:13And Doug sends his love to everyone as well.
08:19Oh, thank you everyone.
08:21Nicole, thank you. You guys are just so extraordinary.
08:24And I applaud the way you do the business that you do and the love that you do in giving community.
08:30I love our small business owners. It is what you do.
08:33I'm going to talk a bit about you in a minute, but you are part of the fabric, the essential fabric of a community that cares about one another.
08:42Thank you for everything.
08:44Thank you. Thank you.
08:47And thank you to the outstanding congressional delegation, Senators Shaheen, Hassan, Representatives Pappas and Custer,
09:01and all the leaders who are here today.
09:03Thank you all. Thank you all for taking the time to be here this afternoon.
09:08Thank you everyone. Thank you.
09:14So before I begin, I do want to say a few words about this tragic shooting that took place this morning in Winder, Georgia.
09:25We're still gathering information about what happened, but we know that there were multiple fatalities and injuries.
09:33And, you know, our hearts are with all the students, the teachers and their families, of course.
09:40And we are grateful to the first responders and the law enforcement that were on the scene.
09:44But this is just a senseless tragedy on top of so many senseless tragedies.
09:49And it's just outrageous that every day in our country, in the United States of America,
09:56that parents have to send their children to school worried about whether or not their child will come home alive.
10:04It's senseless. It is. We've got to stop it.
10:08And we have to end this epidemic of gun violence in our country once and for all.
10:14You know, it doesn't have to be this way. It doesn't have to be this way.
10:19So we will continue, of course, to send our prayers and our thoughts to the families and all those who were affected,
10:28including, you know, I'm going off script right now, but listen.
10:32I mean, you know, at the last year, I started a college tour and I traveled our country meeting with our young leaders.
10:44Right. And so it was college age young leaders. So I did trade schools, colleges, universities, community colleges.
10:49By the way, I love Gen Z. I just love Gen Z.
10:56But I'll tell you, one of the things one of the things that I asked every time I went to the auditorium,
11:01and it would be filled with these young leaders, students, and I'd ask them, raise your hand if at any point between kindergarten and 12th grade,
11:09you had to endure an active shooter drill. And for the for the young leaders who are here who are raising their hand,
11:17I'm telling you, every time the auditorium was packed and almost every hand went up.
11:22You know, a lot of us I'll speak about myself. You know, we had well, I grew up in California, earthquake drills.
11:28We had fire drills. But our kids are sitting in a classroom where they should be fulfilling their God given potential.
11:38And some part of their big, beautiful brain is concerned about a shooter busting through the door of the classroom.
11:46It does not have to be this way. It does not have to be this way.
11:56And, you know, this is one of the many issues that's at stake in this election.
12:01So New Hampshire, we have 62 days to go. 62 days to go.
12:09And I'm going to tell you what you already know, this race is going to be tight until the very end.
12:15So please, let's not pay too much attention to the polls, because we are running as the underdog.
12:23We know what they're capable of on the other side.
12:27The only thing we can take for granted is the love that we as Americans have for each other,
12:33knowing we have so much more in common than what separates us.
12:43And we've got some hard work ahead, but we like hard work.
12:48Hard work is good work. Hard work can be joyful work.
12:53And so we are up for the task. And with your help, we will win in November.
12:59We will win in November.
13:05And that, in large part, is because we know what we stand for.
13:10And when you know what you stand for, you know what to fight for.
13:17We love our country. And we believe in the promise of America.
13:23That's so much of what I think brings us all together this afternoon.
13:28We believe in the promise of America.
13:31And that includes a topic we're going to discuss today, which is what I call an opportunity economy.
13:37Building an opportunity economy.
13:43And my vision of an opportunity economy is one where everyone can compete and have a real chance to succeed.
13:51Where everyone, regardless of who they are, where they start, can build wealth, including intergenerational wealth.
13:59Where workers are treated with dignity and everyone has the freedom to join a union if they choose.
14:08Where we remove barriers to opportunity so anyone who wants to start a business can have access to the tools and the resources they need to do that.
14:19I believe, and I said it before to Nicole, I believe America's small businesses are an essential foundation to our entire economy.
14:30Think about it. Think about it.
14:33Small businesses in our country employ half of all private sector workers.
14:39Half of all private sector workers own or run a small business or work for a small business.
14:45They do trillions of dollars of business every year.
14:49They generate revenue that helps repair our roads and pay our teachers.
14:55And you know, for all of those who are or know of small business owners, the thing I love about you is that you're not only leaders in business, you are civic leaders.
15:08You are community leaders. You are mentors. You hire locally.
15:14You believe in the community and you're part of the glue of the fabric that holds communities together.
15:21You provide the local meeting space.
15:24You are the types of folks where you know who your regulars are and when someone's walking in the door and you can tell they've had a bad day, you know exactly what they need.
15:34Isn't that the best of who we are?
15:37Isn't that the best of who we are?
15:42And I've met so many entrepreneurs across the country who take the incredible leap of faith that is required to start a small business.
15:54Folks who put their life savings on the line and work through the weekends and holidays because they aren't just building a business, they're pursuing a dream.
16:05They're building a better future for their employees and for the people they love in their communities.
16:11And by extension, they're building a stronger middle class and a stronger America for us all.
16:19And so all of this is why, as president, one of my highest priorities will be to strengthen America's small businesses.
16:33And here I am in New Hampshire to announce a few elements of my plan to do that.
16:39So first, we're going to help more small businesses and innovators get off the ground.
16:52Now I'm setting what some I'm sure are going to call a very ambitious goal, but you know what? I think we should admire ambition in each other.
17:00So I want to see 25 million new small business applications by the end of my first term.
17:11And to help achieve this, we will lower the cost of starting a new business.
17:21So here's the thing. On average, it costs about $40,000 to start a new business in America.
17:29That is a great financial barrier for a lot of folks, and it can hold entrepreneurs back.
17:34And the current tax deduction for a startup is just $5,000.
17:40So then you've got to make up the delta there. You've got to figure out how you're going to do that.
17:45Not everyone has access to that kind of wealth and capital.
17:50So part of my plan is we will expand the tax deduction for startups to $50,000.
18:03It's essentially a tax cut for starting a small business.
18:08Second, my plan will help existing small businesses grow.
18:13We will provide low and no interest loans to small businesses that want to expand.
18:19And we will, and this is very important, cut the red tape that can make starting and growing a small business more difficult than it needs to be.
18:29More difficult than it needs to be.
18:32For example, we will make it cheaper and easier for small businesses to file their taxes.
18:39Similar, similar to how individuals can take a standard deduction.
18:45You know, I said to my team, kind of like, now I'm going to date myself again because they no longer do it,
18:50but kind of like, you remember the 1040EZ?
18:53Like, that kind of idea, right?
18:56Like, let's just take away some of the bureaucracy in the process to make it easier for people to actually do something that's going to benefit our entire economy.
19:10Third, my plan will invest in small businesses and innovators throughout America.
19:17And here's why.
19:19We know that talent exists everywhere.
19:22We know that talent exists everywhere in our country, from rural towns to city centers.
19:29But not everyone has access to the financing to venture capital or expert advice.
19:37It's not that they don't have the skills.
19:39It's not that they don't have the work ethic.
19:42It's access to these resources.
19:44So under my plan, we will expand access to venture capital.
19:49We will support innovation hubs and business incubators.
19:53And we will increase federal contracts with small businesses.
19:59And we will have a particular focus on small businesses in rural communities, like right here in New Hampshire.
20:11Finally, my plan will make our tax code more fair while also prioritizing investment and innovation.
20:24So let us be clear.
20:26Billionaires and big corporations must pay their fair share in tax.
20:31Because here's the thing.
20:37Here's the thing.
20:38It's just not right that those who can most afford it are often paying a lower tax rate than our teachers and our nurses and our firefighters.
20:50It's just not right.
20:52It's just not right.
20:55So that's why I support a billionaire minimum tax and corporations paying their fair share.
21:07And while we ensure that the wealthy and big corporations pay their fair share,
21:12we will tax capital gains at a rate that rewards investment in America's innovators, founders, and small businesses.
21:21So here's the detail.
21:23If you earn a million dollars a year or more, the tax rate on your long-term capital gains will be 28% under my plan.
21:32Because we know when the government encourages investment, it leads to broad-based economic growth,
21:39and it creates jobs, which makes our economy stronger.
21:48Now compare that to what Donald Trump plans.
21:54He intends to cut off federal programs that give loans to small businesses.
22:03He plans to give billionaires massive tax cuts and to cut corporate taxes by over a trillion dollars, even as they pull in record profits.
22:14His plans will add more than $5 trillion to the national debt,
22:20and that is on top of the $2 trillion tax cut he gave them when he was president and when he exploded the deficit.
22:31We know how to count. We know how to count.
22:35And now he also wants to impose what in effect is a national sales tax
22:42on everyday products and basic necessities, which will skyrocket the cost for families and small businesses.
22:50And New Hampshire, on top of all of this, if Donald Trump were to win in November, he intends to end the Affordable Care Act,
23:01which would significantly increase costs on small businesses, as we know.
23:06And well, you know what? The courts are going to handle that, and we will handle November.
23:11How about that?
23:14How about that?
23:19That's how we'll handle that. How about that?
23:23But think about it. It wants to end the Affordable Care Act,
23:27taking us back to a time when insurance companies could deny people with pre-existing conditions.
23:33You remember what that was?
23:36Children with asthma, breast cancer survivors, grandparents with diabetes.
23:43So, yeah, look, we are here to tell him and them we are not going back.
23:50We're not going back.
23:52We're not going back.
23:55We're not going back.
24:04No, we are not, and we will move forward, because ours is a fight for the future.
24:12And it is a fight for freedom.
24:18And it is a fight for freedom.
24:21Now, I don't have to tell the folks of New Hampshire, the live-free-or-die state,
24:29you know the importance of individual freedoms, fundamental freedoms.
24:32You know how hard people fought for these freedoms,
24:36and that they are foundational to who we are and what we stand for as America,
24:42including the fundamental freedom of a woman to make decisions about her own body
24:47and not have her government telling her what to do.
24:56And understand how we got here.
24:58Understand how we got here.
25:00And, of course, we're not going to fall for the gaslighting he's pushing, right?
25:04When he was president, Donald Trump hand-picked three members of the United States Supreme Court
25:12with the intention that they would undo the protections of Roe v. Wade.
25:18And as he intended, they did.
25:22And now, in more than 20 states in our nation, there is a Trump abortion ban.
25:30Many with no exceptions even for rape and incest, which is immoral. Immoral.
25:38And let us agree, and I know we do, one does not have to abandon their faith
25:44or deeply held beliefs to agree the government should not be telling her what to do with her body.
26:05And if he wins, and if he wins, you can be sure Donald Trump will go further.
26:14And he will sign a national abortion ban.
26:17And, you know, Project 2025, which I just, I mean, can you believe they put that thing in writing?
26:27And under Project 2025, he would create a national anti-abortion coordinator,
26:35which would force states, I mean, this is unbelievable, right?
26:39Which would force states to report on women's miscarriages and abortions.
26:45You know what they are making really quite clear?
26:49They just don't trust women.
26:52They just don't trust women.
26:54But we trust women. We trust women.
27:00And when Congress passes a bill to restore reproductive freedom as President of the United States,
27:06I will proudly sign it into law.
27:18Across our nation.
27:29Across our nation. Across our nation.
27:32And I've been traveling for many, many, well, years actually, and certainly months most recently.
27:38Across our nation, I'm telling you, we are witnessing a full-on attack
27:45on hard-fought, hard-won fundamental freedoms and rights.
27:49Including the freedom to vote.
27:52The freedom to be safe from gun violence.
27:56The freedom to breathe clean air and drink clean water.
28:00The freedom to love who you love openly and with pride.
28:10And so here's what I don't have to tell the folks of New Hampshire,
28:15because you know it so well, it's part of your DNA.
28:18Generations of Americans before us,
28:21they fought for freedom and they led the fight for freedom in our country.
28:26And now, the baton is in our hands.
28:31The baton is in our hands.
28:34So let us understand which we do.
28:37Our purpose at this very moment.
28:40Let us remember the broad shoulders upon which we stand.
28:44And the traditions of this very fight
28:49that have led to what we have been able to accomplish.
28:53And let us understand then, that when we say fight,
28:58it is a fight for something, not against something.
29:02It is for something.
29:08That's what we're talking about when we talk about a new way forward.
29:13This is for something.
29:16And so, as an example, let us finally pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act
29:20and the Freedom to Vote Act.
29:24Let us finally pass an assault weapons ban
29:28and universal background checks and red flag laws.
29:32Because we are clear on that point,
29:35it is a false choice to say you're either in favor of the Second Amendment
29:39or you want to take everyone's guns away.
29:42I'm in favor of the Second Amendment
29:44and I know we need reasonable gun safety laws in our country.
29:53And there's another point that I'd like to stress about this election in 24.
29:59This is not 2016 or 2020.
30:04The stakes are even higher this time.
30:07For a number of reasons, but I'm going to mention one in particular.
30:12What the Supreme Court recently did
30:14when they basically just told the former president
30:20that going forward, he will effectively be immune
30:25no matter what he does in the White House.
30:31But let's take this seriously and understand what it means
30:35before at least there might have been the threat
30:38that there would be consequence and accountability.
30:40With that ruling, what this means
30:44is that almost explicitly he has been told no consequence.
30:49And imagine, just imagine Donald Trump with no guardrails.
30:55Just imagine with no guardrails.
30:58He has openly vowed to be a dictator on day one.
31:01He has said he would end the independence of the Department of Justice,
31:06the United States Department of Justice.
31:09So he could have the unchecked power to seek vengeance
31:13against people who disagree with him.
31:15He even called, for I'm going to quote now,
31:19the termination of the Constitution of the United States of America.
31:26Let us be very clear.
31:29Someone who suggests we should terminate
31:33the Constitution of the United States of America
31:38should never again stand behind the seal
31:41of the President of the United States.
31:47Never again.
31:56So I'll end where I started.
31:59When it comes down to it,
32:02we are all here together because we love our country.
32:05We love our country.
32:08And we know the privilege,
32:11the privilege and pride
32:14that comes with being an American.
32:17And I do believe
32:20it is one of the highest forms of patriotism
32:23to fight for the ideals of our country.
32:27That is how we realize the promise of America.
32:36USA! USA! USA! USA!
32:44And so with that being said, I ask New Hampshire,
32:48are you ready to have your voices heard?
32:52Do we believe in freedom?
32:55Do we believe in opportunity?
32:59Do we believe in the promise of America?
33:02And are we ready to fight for it?
33:07And when we fight, we win!
33:11God bless you and God bless the United States of America.
33:15God bless you.
