The Queensland Government has offered support to The Star Brisbane less than a week after the casino opened its doors.

00:00Well, it's been a considerably messy week for the Star Entertainment Group in what should
00:06have no doubt been a huge moment as they officially opened their doors to their new casino here
00:11in Brisbane last Thursday.
00:13Now, in a statement that was issued to the ASX from the Star Entertainment Group late
00:18last night, they disclosed that they are considering their financial and liquidity positions as
00:24they aim to consolidate their preliminary accounts from the 2024 financial year.
00:29Now, the Star has also said in that statement that they are currently in talks with various
00:33key stakeholders in light of their adverse trading position.
00:37Now, that trading position they're referring to comes after the group failed to disclose
00:43their financial position to the market and were then placed into an ASX imposed trading
00:48halt as of last Friday.
00:50Now, this all follows this ongoing saga as the Queensland gambling regulators come under
00:56serious fire for granting the casino their casino license.
01:00The ABC has learned that the state's gambling regulator received the second Bell Report
01:05only last Thursday.
01:07Now, that second Bell Report is in regards to the second inquiry into the Star Casino
01:12in New South Wales and its findings from that report.
01:15The report had declared that the Star was unfit to hold a casino license in New South
01:21Wales.
01:22Now, the Star has been considered as an oversight from the Queensland gambling regulator in
01:25granting that license here in Queensland.
01:28Now, we've heard from the Premier Stephen Miles, who has said that he will offer support
01:33to the Star Entertainment Group and had confirmed that they are in ongoing discussions over
01:38possible tax payment deferrals with the Star.
01:42He said that he is willing to protect the more than 3,000 jobs that have been generated
01:46by the Queens Wharf precinct, which is where the Star Casino here in Brisbane is based.
01:51It does also come after the New South Wales government have rejected a similar request
01:55that was also made by the operator.
01:58Certainly, lots still going on in this space and we wait to see what the outcome is for
02:03the Star Entertainment Group in the coming weeks.
