Too much tech is never great. When it comes to your video or podcast production tech, it’s no different. Having too many ‘toys’ can hinder your creativity and when you start, it’s simply not needed.

00:00It looks like I'm going on a duck hunt, but hey, I'm cold.
00:04So who cares today?
00:06I want to talk about the equipment you need to make a video podcast.
00:12It was asked in a clubhouse that I was in earlier today.
00:17Just seems I'm getting all my questions from clubhouse.
00:20It's not a bad thing.
00:21I guess anyway, they were asking about creating a video podcast and
00:29do they need all sorts of equipment thing with what people don't
00:35understand is that when you make a video you don't want it to be
00:40overproduced at the beginning or at all.
00:44In fact, I mean this might look great and I've got to us.
00:49I've done this for like two or three years now and it's got to this
00:52stage.
00:52But if you go back and watch all my old videos, you think what the
00:57hell is this guy doing?
00:58It's so cringy, but the journey is important.
01:02Someone else said in the clubhouse the journey is very important.
01:05So once someone sees your journey, they understand where you were you
01:09understand where you were and where you want to go to so let's get
01:13back onto the equipment.
01:15You need a mic.
01:16You need a camera and you need lighting.
01:20Now the the mic can actually be done and the camera can be done via
01:25phone.
01:25These phones nowadays are so good that I could actually record on this
01:31and make it black and white and it will be fine.
01:33You need lighting now.
01:35I do have lights here.
01:36I'm recording this late so you'll see a bit of a shadow if you see
01:39but if you have good lighting in your office or in your room, that's
01:46really all you need or if you do it in the daytime or see it's winter
01:50now, so it's a bit more difficult.
01:52You can just use natural light.
01:54You don't need a bunch of equipment start simply because you got to
02:01you got to see if you're going to carry on doing these videos if you
02:05just buy all this stuff and try to make it into like a TV little mini
02:12TV series and it doesn't go right you feel bad and then you won't do
02:17the next video or next podcast or the next thing that you're doing.
02:23So you got to really start small and don't look at someone else's video.
02:29Don't think about someone's already talking about that because I'll
02:33get into that into another video, but just get started with your phone
02:38get started with what you have and then build up to oh, you know what
02:43I could do with a better camera.
02:44I could do with a better mic and the room is a bit darker.
02:48So I'll get some lights.
02:49That's exactly how I started.
02:53The one thing I would not cheap out on in fact, I would say get this
03:01one thing before anything else is a microphone when you hear bad audio
03:07on a video or on a podcast you stop listening if you see bad video,
03:14but the audio is good.
03:15You'll keep watching because you're listening to it.
03:18We're more listening people than visual people though.
03:21I like visuals.
03:23So if the audio is bad, they'll stop watching and listening if the
03:27video is bad.
03:28They'll still watch but they can definitely listen.
03:31So the first thing I would say that you should get after trying it
03:37with your phone and everything for a few episodes is a microphone
03:41just get a good mic and get a good condenser mics.
03:45I mean this is about an inch away from my mouth.
03:49Yeah, it's about right.
03:52And it sounds good because it's very close.
03:54Now if I stood back here and you know started talking it's not as
03:58good.
03:59So this mic actually gets rid of all the noise from behind the mic
04:04and around and just picks up what's in front of it.
04:09So that that's all I wanted to say for this episode.
04:13Don't overdo it.
04:15Keep it simple and I'll see you in the next one.
04:19Have a great day.
04:19Ciao.
