00:00The seasonal bushfire outlook, which was released today, says if widespread rainfall does not
00:07occur during spring, there could be an increased risk to grass and bushfires across the country.
00:14Above average winter temperatures and fuel loads are contributing to the risk, particularly
00:18in the Northern Territory, Queensland, southeastern Victoria and South Australia.
00:23August was the hottest month on record and unusually high temperatures are forecast to
00:28continue in coming months.
00:30Despite a wetter than average spring forecast, the outlook says it's likely that Queensland
00:36will see grassland fire activity during the coming months.
00:39Authorities are urging residents across the country to prepare to an early start to the
00:44bushfire season.
00:45Know where to find your local bushfire information, make a plan and discuss that plan with your
00:52family.
00:53These small steps, and they are just small steps, can make a huge difference during an
00:58emergency where you live.
01:01Rainfall across much of Western Australia is forecast to decline, while in the coming
01:05months New South Wales, Queensland, parts of Tasmania and South Australia could experience
01:11above average rainfall.
01:13Some states have already seen the start of their bushfire season, with dozens of fires
01:18already burning across parts of New South Wales.
