⚙ My PLA Simplify3D print settings:

· 2800mm/minute (47mm/second)
· hotend 185°C | bed 45°C
· 200 micron | infill 100%
· 6 top layers | 6 bottom layers | 3 outline perimeters
· brass nozzle 0.35mm
· extrusion width 0.44mm
· retraction distance 1.50mm (restart distance -0.20mm)
· retraction speed 3600mm/minute (60mm/second)
· extrusion multiplier 1.00
· coasting distance 0.30mm
· wiping distance off
· cooling fan 40% (from layer 2)
· no support
· no additions

⚙ My changed settings:

· turned monotonic on
· turned ironing on
· outline overlap increased from 20% to 40%

00:00How did I get from this ugly top surface, to a very good one.
00:11This first test print was done with my normal print settings.
00:16There are ugly parts around the holes.
00:19Also stripes are visible on the top layer.
00:22I changed some settings from the infill tab in simplify 3D.
00:27I turned on monotonic.
00:29Adjacent top and bottom lines are extruded in the same direction for better quality.
00:35I also enabled ironing for a smooth finish of the top layer.
00:42The top surface looks better now.
00:45But the ugly parts around the holes are still there.
00:53That's where outline overlap comes into play.
00:58I changed it from 20 to 40%.

01:10Smooth and without ugly holes.
01:17All inside layers were printed in a 45 degrees direction.
01:23The 45 degrees is relative to the outside edges.
01:30Every next layer was printed perpendicular to the previous one.
01:35Layer angles of 90 degrees did not give better results.
