00:00The Baltic Triangle has been named one of the coolest neighbourhoods.
00:06The once industrial area has even been accused of gentrification but there is one place which
00:11has been a mainstay here for decades.
00:13Pilgrim's Progress has been on Bridgewater Street for 40 years.
00:17The three-floor warehouse is situated in a converted 19th century cotton merchant's
00:22and is in Aladdin's cave of furniture and other collectible items.
00:26I mean I can't see any point in buying new where you can buy a good piece of old furniture
00:32usually cheaper and certainly far better made or it wouldn't still be here 100 years later.
00:39Liverpool Film Office has been running for 35 years and Selwyn has been part of the productions
00:44that use our city as a backdrop.
00:46We do a lot of props for films so you need a range of bits and pieces to use in different
00:52period settings whether it be early period or whether it be 20s, 30s, 50s, 70s.
01:00So I tend to have a few bits of each period which if somebody was furnishing a set they'd
01:06be able to come here and I'd be able to loan them to them or they'd buy them often I just
01:10loan furniture.
01:11As well as selling on antique pieces, in his workshop Selwyn restores heirlooms to their
01:16former glory.
01:18Most of the restoration I do nowadays has sentimental value.
01:22It belonged to a father, a grandfather, an uncle, an aunt, it gets passed through the
01:26family and people want it restored and I've had my share of people getting quite emotional
01:32when I've restored something and it brings back memories.
01:35And for decades on it doesn't seem like Selwyn has any plans of slowing down.
01:40My favourite part is people.
01:42I still love it, I still find things interesting.
01:44I think when I stop being interested then I will retire but there's still an interest,
01:49there's still quirky things, there's still interesting things and I'm still fascinated,
01:55there's still something to learn all the time.
