00:00If you're a film collector, especially in the last five to seven years, there's never
00:08been a better time to collect this form of media.
00:10With the boutique labels, finding these films that were almost lost.
00:14Hutter's Way, Diner, all those movies.
00:18Coca-Cola can.
00:19Dark and Bubbly.
00:20Death by Temptation.
00:21Daughters of the Dust.
00:22Hunch and Hess.
00:23I think they're important films that need to be preserved.
00:28I've been collecting physical media since Laserdisc.
00:30But, you know, kind of bubbling around the cauldron was the RCA Videodisc.
00:34They were vinyl.
00:35To have them around, to actually have a library in my home.
00:38You have movies that I have not heard of.
00:40That might be the only way I can watch it, is if I actually own that, like, Blu-ray release
00:44of something.
00:45These powerhouses behind these labels, they're doing God's work.
00:49Joe and I's favorite projects are the ones which take a crazy amount of work.
00:54Other institutions won't really put the resources or time and effort to actually make them come
00:59to life.
01:00Vinegar Syndrome.
01:01Severin.
01:02Arrow.
01:03Eureka.
01:04Second Sight.
01:05Agfa.
01:06All these companies are born of passionate people.
01:07I mean, real passion.
01:09These are these people who love the smell of film.
01:15These are movies that nobody really watched, relegated to punchlines.
01:18A couple weeks later, he sent me a note saying, do you have more films of the sort that you're
01:24interested in working on?
01:25I said, yes.
01:31No one could get the rights.
01:36Actually worse than I expected.
01:38There was shit all over the celluloid.
01:41These companies put all of this love and time and attention and money into restoring these
01:47films, tracking down the prints.
01:49We aspire to make the best version of the film that's ever been on the market.
01:54I feel so lucky that my films have been restored, that they've been chosen to be restored.
01:59It's a historical project, but also a labor of love, rescuing these films that have been
02:04lost to time.
02:07And I think the people who buy these films and watch them are participating in that too.
02:14Always have collecting because it's like kind of being a historian.
02:19Yeah.
