00:00Investigators that investigated the cause of helicopter crash killing the then-Iran president,
00:05Ibrahim Resi has issued final report, saying,
00:09the aviation accident occurred due to bad weather.
00:13The final report by the Iranian Armed Forces stated that there was no sign of sabotage or tampering,
00:19stating that the accident was primarily caused by weather conditions, including thick fog.
00:25President Resi, his foreign minister and other senior officials,
00:30died when their helicopter crashed in a mountainous region near the Azerbaijan border on May 19.
00:36The general staff of the Iranian Armed Forces released its final report on Sunday,
00:42confirming earlier findings that harsh weather conditions in northwestern Iran at the time of the incident,
00:47including a dense and rising fog, was the primary cause of the crash.
00:52All documents related to the helicopter's maintenance and repairs since its purchase
00:57were meticulously reviewed by military and civilian experts,
01:01who determined that all major repairs and replacement of critical parts
01:05were carried out in accordance with standard regulations.
01:09The report also said that detailed analysis of the flight path showed that the helicopter
01:14was on its predetermined route and had not deviated from it during the course of the flight.
01:20Remaining parts and systems from the crashed helicopter, including engines,
01:25power transmission systems, fuel systems, and electronic equipment,
01:31were thoroughly tested by experts from the Ministry of Defense and no defects were found
01:36that could have contributed to the crash, it added.
01:40Additionally, a forensic committee conducted toxicological and pathological tests
01:45on the remains of the victims and the results indicated no suspicious findings.
01:50The investigation also ruled out the possibility of sabotage or the helicopter being targeted
01:56by offensive and defensive systems, cyber attacks, or magnetic fields and lasers.
02:02The main reason of the helicopter crash was complicated weather conditions in the region,
02:08according to the final report as revealed by Iran's state TV.
02:12A preliminary report by Iran's military said it made that no evidence of foul play
02:17or an attack had been found during the investigation, Reuters reports.
02:22The leader was a hardliner long seen as a potential successor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
02:29The charred wreckage of the helicopter which crashed, carrying Resi and Foreign Minister
02:34Hossein Amirabdollahian, was found after an overnight search in blizzard conditions.
02:40Resi's death was later confirmed in a statement on social media by Vice President Mohsen Mansouri
02:46and on state television.
02:48State TV reported that images from the site showed the aircraft slumped into a mountain
02:53peak, although there was no official word on the cause of the crash.
02:58State News Agency IRNA said Resi was flying in a U.S. Medbell 212 helicopter.
03:06We heard in the month of May, 2024 reported that mammoth crowd of people at early morning
03:12in Tabriz.
03:13The capital city of East Azerbaijan province began following funeral procession for the
03:18then Iranian president, Ibrahim Resi and other top government officials who died in helicopter
03:23crash around mountainous area of Azerbaijan on Sunday afternoon.
03:28Ibrahim Resi and every other persons on board the helicopter were confirmed dead after several
03:33hours of search and rescue efforts by 40 different groups spanning from Sunday afternoon till
03:38Monday early morning night.
03:41Immensely large crowds of people mostly Iranians received the coffin of Iranian president, Ibrahim
03:47Resi and others who died alongside with him with different batches of military personnel
03:52carrying each coffin on their shoulders with a very long procession walk in Tabriz.
03:57It would be recalled that rescue teams searched the mountainous area from Sunday afternoon
04:02after a helicopter carrying Resi, the foreign minister and other officials had gone missing.
04:09Early Monday, relief workers located the missing helicopter with Iran's state TV saying the
04:16president had died.
04:18Ibrahim Resi and foreign minister Hossein Ami Abdullahian were among the high-profile
04:24passengers in the helicopter crash that occurred in mountainous terrain and in a very poor
04:29visibility.
04:30Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei announced five days of mourning for President
04:36Ibrahim Resi who died in a helicopter crash.
04:39The servant of Iranian nation, Ayatollah Ibrahim Resi has achieved the highest level of martyrdom
04:45whilst serving the people, state television said Monday, with main news agency also saying
04:51he was dead.
04:53Ibrahim Resi was Iran's president from 2021 until his death and he had a reputation as
04:59a conservative hardliner.
05:01Ibrahim Resi, Iran's hardline president who was elected in 2021, was declared dead alongside
05:08other senior politicians following a fatal helicopter crash in Iran's East Azerbaijan
05:14region.
05:15Iran's first vice president, Mohammad Mokhba, assumed the presidency after Ibrahim Resi's
05:21death in a helicopter crash as the country gears up for early elections the following
05:27month that saw the current president of Iran taking over the affairs of the state.
05:32Resi served as the 8th president of Iran and was often described as a protege and potential
05:39successor of the country's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
05:43Sabriyeh city in Iran has been inundated with millions of Iranians gathered for the funeral
05:49of President Ibrahim Resi.
05:51The helicopter crash that killed the president alongside other state officials was believed
05:56to have been caused by poor weather conditions and the aviation team reported that the helicopter
06:02was completely burnt in the incident.
06:05Prior to his tenure as president, it was gathered that the ultra-conservative Resi started his
06:11career as a prosecutor in various areas of Iran, including the Iranian capital, Tehran,
06:17and went on to establish connections with Iran's religious and judicial elite.
06:23In 1988, when Resi was 27 years old, history had it that he was part of a four-person committee
06:30overseeing the extrajudicial execution of political prisoners.
06:35Amnesty International had said,
06:38Thousands of political dissidents were systematically subjected to enforced disappearance in Iranian
06:44detention facilities across the country and extrajudicially executed pursuant to an order
06:49issued by the Supreme Leader of Iran.
06:52It was observed and estimated that between 4,000 to 5,000 prisoners were killed.
06:58Most of them were said to be from the People's Mujahideen Armed Opposition Group or from
07:04left-wing parties.
07:06On his political life, in 2017, he made his first attempt to run for the presidency, having
07:13served as one of the Popular Front of Islamic Revolution Forces presidential candidates.
07:19Resi lost to incumbent President Hassan Rouhani, who was re-elected and seen as more of a
07:25moderate in the country's political bloc.
07:29Resi received 39% of the vote, but in 2021, the presidential election saw him collecting
07:3762% of the vote in an event marked by a record low voter turnout, the highest share of protest
07:44votes and a crackdown on journalists reporting on any of the candidates, according to international
07:50media and observers.
07:52The elections infamously reported the number of invalid votes to be higher than those of
07:57non-winning candidates, prompting rights groups such as Human Rights Watch HRW to declare
08:04the elections as a sham and neither free nor fair.
08:08Many also suspected that Resi's victory was rigged.
08:12While reformist candidates were barred from the elections, one of the international media
08:17stated in its report,
08:31Resi was responsible for the murder of thousands of Iranian political prisoners he ordered,
08:37executed in 1988.
08:391,500 Iranians slaughtered in the 2019 protests and the years of terrorist violence sown by
08:46Iran across the region that claimed American lives.
08:50My hope and prayer is that Resi's death will give the people of Iran a chance to claim
08:55their birthright of freedom and end Iran's long reign of terror," Mike Pence once ends in quote.
09:01It could be recalled that in September 2022, CNN top broadcast journalist Christiane Amanpour
09:10recounted how the Iranian president, Ebrahim Resi, cancelled an interview with her over
09:16her refusal to wear a headscarf.
09:18In a TwitterNowX social media thread, Amanpour revealed the interview had been behind schedule
09:25without Resi showing up when an aide of his came to demand that she covers her hair.
09:30She tweeted and stated in quote those 40 minutes after the interview had been due to start
09:36an aide came over.
09:38The president, he said, was suggesting I wear a headscarf because it's the holy months of
09:45Muharram and Safar.
09:47I politely declined, we are in New York, where there is no law or tradition regarding headscarves.
09:55I pointed out that no previous Iranian president has required this when I have interviewed
10:00them outside Iran.
10:02The aide made it clear that the interview would not happen if I did not wear a headscarf.
10:08He said it was, a matter of respect, and referred to, the situation in Iran, alluding to the
10:15protests sweeping the country.
10:17She added, again, I said that I couldn't agree to this unprecedented and unexpected
10:24condition.
10:25And so we walked away.
10:27The interview didn't happen.
10:29During the period, protests were rocking Iran after the death of Maza Amini following her
10:35arrest by Morality Police for improper use of the hijab.
