Rev Alison Brown at St James with St Thomas Church, Poolstock, Wigan is preparing to welcome visitors for their Heritage Open Day on Saturday 14th September. Visitors can have a tour of the church, enjoy the pay as you feel Faith Cafe or climb the 54 steps to the bell tower and enjoy the bell ringing experience, see the experts at work and maybe have a go yourself.

00:00My name is Reverend Alison Brown and I am Curate at St James with St Thomas' Church
00:06here in Poolstock and we are very lucky because we have an absolutely magnificent building and
00:14on Saturday the 14th of September between 10 o'clock and 5 o'clock you can come along
00:22and have a look at our church as we celebrate Heritage Day. Part of our Heritage Day will be
00:31tours of the church with me and I will be able to tell you how the church speaks to us
00:39theologically and I can tell you bits of how the church speaks of St James who is our patron saint.
00:48We're also St James with St Thomas and St Thomas' was demolished
00:55some time ago it used to be in Caroline Street so some of our buildings still has
01:01parts of that church and I will be able to show you which are those as well. The cafe will be
01:07open for warm snacks up to two o'clock and then afterwards it will just be tea and biscuits
01:14and as part of the tour we can take you up to our tower room but just be aware there are 54 steps
01:23so you need to be quite fit to go up there and you'll be able to see people ringing and also
01:30if you want to if you fancy you can have a little go yourself.
