Single-headline Ofsted grades for schools will be scrapped with immediate effect, the Government has announced.Previously, Ofsted awarded one of four headline grades to schools it inspects: outstanding, good, requires improvement and inadequate.

00:04where it comes to schools, those one-word judgements will be at an end. We will bring
00:09forward a new system of report cards that will better capture a school's strengths but
00:14also areas for improvement. I think the system that we've got at the moment just isn't working
00:19for parents where the information that they're given just isn't enough and where it comes
00:23to staff it's too high stakes. So I won't hesitate to intervene in schools that are
00:28failing because I'm determined to drive up standards in our schools but the case for
00:32Ofsted reform is clear and we are delivering on the commitment that we made in our manifesto
00:37for a better system to support children and families.
