00:00weight division we see the Filipino fighter in Josh Navarro now hailing from
00:05Las Vegas taking on the Oxnard native and Angel Carrillo. TJ DeSantis, Perro
00:12Gonzalez, Doug Fisher all inside the Chumash Casino Resort here in beautiful
00:18Santa Ynez, California at the site of Tom Loeffler's Hollywood Fight Nights.

00:27Carrillo in the black with white, Navarro in the gold, yellow, blue, red. There's a
00:35lot of colors on his shorts. They're fancy, they're beautiful embroidered. Navarro standing
00:41southpaw. We mentioned the Muay Thai background of Navarro Perro. Obviously
00:48it's a stand-up art but it's much different striking style than that of
00:54the sweet science of boxing. Yes, they're very powerful. They throw all of their
00:57strikes with with full intent in Muay Thai and so I feel like boxing has a
01:03little bit of more fluidity and it's a little smoother at times and you can
01:06kind of see that already in Josh here. He's coming with heavy hands looking to
01:10throw a big left hand in the beginning of this round here. But Angel doing a
01:17fantastic job of putting some pressure on, setting the tone, some nice feints
01:21coming out of him through a nice body shot. It's interesting the stance of
01:28Navarro. He's almost like pivoted sideways like a karate fighter almost.
01:31He's looking to set up a big left hand and you can obviously see that that's
01:35what he's relying on right now as he wants to land a big shot and probably
01:38get some respect because Angel's coming forward and he's pressing him against
01:42the ropes and he's letting letting Josh know that he is here to fight. Over the
01:50top with that left hand. It misses though by Navarro and Carrillo coming
01:53alive with a nice combination. He's got beautiful boxing, beautiful strikes, just
01:59very fluid here and that is the difference between Muay Thai and boxing
02:03I believe in the hands. You also can't kick in boxing. You cannot. You need to be
02:11defensive here and Navarro forced to be defensive here from the onslaught of
02:14Carrillo. Always throwing in volume here early is the Oxnard native. It's very
02:19interesting because you can see Josh is pulling Angel into the corner which I
02:24don't know if that's some sort of mental warfare that he has going on here but he
02:28seems to like to be on the ropes which is is interesting. He seems to be
02:33incredibly comfortable standing in front of an aggressive Carrillo here early as
02:37we are in the final minute of the first round. Over the top with the left hand
02:41and countered by Carrillo. Carrillo's doing a great job of getting tight. Big
02:48left hook there. Navarro trying to answer with some volume of his own. Now getting
02:53aggressive here as we approach the final 30 seconds of the opening frame. He's got
02:59great shots, these big shots, but how many can he throw? How long can he
03:03withstand this big power pace against someone who's very fluid with a lot of
03:09volume in Carrillo. Combination again in volume. Carrillo trying to answer or Navarro
03:20rather with the left hand. Big left uppercut from Josh there. One round in
03:27the books again scheduled for four super bantamweights kicking off our night here
03:31inside the Chumash Casino Resort. Interesting sort of pace and
03:38ebb and flow in that first round as we saw Navarro sort of sit back and allow
03:41Carrillo to come forward and be aggressive. Yes, you can see here Carrillo's
03:46throwing these beautiful fluid shots. He's going upstairs, going downstairs.
03:49There's that big left hook that he landed. Looking at the corner here of
03:55Carrillo. Is it more of the same, Pearl, if you're in his corner for the second
03:58round? Be aggressive? No, you know, I don't know. We've got to see how
04:03this fight plays out, but Carrillo's doing a great job of not allowing Josh to
04:07pull him into a, you know, a slobber knocker here. Carrillo's throwing nice
04:12fluid punches. He's keeping the pressure with just his movement, with just his
04:16forward movement, and that's difficult, and you can see Josh is wearing that.
04:20It was interesting. Navarro did come alive towards the latter part of the
04:24round, but it was almost after he had taken some of the punishment that he was
04:27kind of woken up. Do you expect him to get aggressive here early as we start
04:31the second round? I felt like he fought a little emotional at the end of that
04:34round, so I'd like to see if he can discipline himself and get back to his
04:38game plan. Carrillo coming out with the double jab early. You mentioned emotions,
04:43Pearl. Emotions can be good and bad in a fight. They can. Some people do well
04:47under emotions. I personally do not. I can get wild and crazy, and that is what I
04:52am seeing from Josh, is he's a little emotional. The tough thing is when you
04:57start fighting off emotion, you stop fighting intelligently.
05:02Carrillo coming forward, attacking the body. Left hand loading up on it now is Navarro.
05:06Nice, nice big left hook there from Josh.
05:14Beautiful jab from Carrillo there.
05:18They clinch up. Carrillo with a little shove as they separate.
05:24And again, you see Navarro backing up, not afraid to be put in the corner or put on the ropes.
05:29No, he's pulling him, which is a fantastic strategy. However, he's not necessarily
05:34capitalizing in this moment, and maybe he's trying to find his timing, but when
05:38you pull someone, you know that's a way to control, especially a
05:41forward-pressure fighter. It's a good way to control that momentum.
05:46Both of these men young in their boxing careers. We mentioned the background of Muay Thai for Navarro, but you
05:52don't have a lot of time to sort of get information early in a four-round fight.
05:55You got to push the action quick. Yes, that's a very different fight style of the two sports here.
06:01It's boxing, it's points. You have to throw in volume. You have to throw numbers, especially
06:05when you have a short four-round fight, and whereas in Muay Thai, those are counted.
06:10Those are big points when you land big shots and throw big movements. Carrillo landing here.
06:17Navarro forced to cover up, but still firing back is the Filipino fighter. He is, but he's not as
06:23effective as Carrillo is. Carrillo's throwing nice body shots. He's working the body right now,
06:29putting a lot of pressure, and that wears you down. The pressure alone can wear you down in
06:33this fight, as we can see. Navarro's complaining about a shot to the back of the head.
06:38Now the clinch referee, Gerard White, separating them.
06:46Got an accidental headbutt that has opened up a pretty significant cut there on the forehead
06:51of Carrillo. Significant that is, TJ.
06:58We're going to keep going, and we'll see action pick up here. Carrillo, I mean,
07:02the look on his face, he almost looks mad. He looks very focused right now and very intentional
07:08in his striking, but that cut is fairly large, and that is a great target for Josh here.
07:16The good thing about the cut, I guess, is it's in a tough spot. It's bleeding right down the center
07:21of his face, not necessarily impeding his vision, but it's going to be, as you mentioned, a target
07:25for Navarro and something that the corner is going to definitely have to pay attention to
07:28here in between rounds. Beautiful body work here from Carrillo.
07:36Final moments here of round number two, and there was a lot going on there, Pearl. We got a pretty
07:43significant cut. We do, but it almost looks like it woke up Carrillo. He looks very, very focused
07:50right now, very intentional in moving forward and really wants to put a stamp on this fight tonight.
07:57We're going to take a look at a sequence here where the headbutt opened up that cut,
08:04and you can see Navarro kind of coming in, leading his head, and then he just pops up,
08:07and I think that's where it was. It was certainly unintentional, as you can see here. It was the
08:13back of his head that kind of landed there. What Josh is doing very well is when Carrillo throws
08:20these beautiful long strikes right down the pipe. He's stepping in and closing that distance
08:25here, which is common in Muay Thai because you can go to your clinch, but as we can see, it did
08:32cause some damage here in that second round. You mentioned it may have woken up Carrillo. He was
08:36aggressive before the cut, but he was downright fired up, I think, after the cut in that second
08:41round. Round three underway.

08:56Pass as we are in round number three of a scheduled four between Angel Carrillo and Josh Navarro.
09:02Oh, big left hand there, but Carrillo's wearing on Josh right now. You can see it in his stance now
09:09and his body language. Josh is wearing this fight, and that's the pressure. That's that
09:14beautiful forward pressure from Carrillo here that's just going to the body, coming upstairs,
09:20never out of range.
09:25You know, we learn a lot about young fighters here on this stage and platform. Tom Loeffler
09:28is always talking about the rising stars. We're learning a lot about Angel Carrillo here, and
09:33this man can deal with adversity. A tough cut, a tough spot. He's just going to work, Pearl. He's
09:37not letting it bother him in any way, shape, or form. No, and he's doing a fantastic job of throwing
09:41long strikes right down the pipe and then stepping in, getting inside, and throwing beautiful body
09:47shots and head shots. Nice left hand finds a home for Carrillo. Navarro kind of showing his
09:54veteranship as he's weathering a very difficult storm here. Carrillo is in the body shop tonight. He
10:00is working the body of Josh. I think it's that experience of veteranship of the 67-time Muay Thai
10:10veteran of Navarro that is just, you know, fighting on, you know, his heart here because this is a,
10:16as you mentioned, he's wearing the fight. It's a tough fight to wear. Big right hand, overhand
10:21right from Carrillo. Josh looks tired. He's taking big deep breaths. He's not throwing intelligently.
10:31He's just trying to land a big shot, and Carrillo sees all of these shots coming. They're very
10:36big movements. Beautiful right hand from Carrillo, and that is what's so impressive tonight of Angel
10:43is the range difference that he's able to land. He's able to land in a short range, in a long range.
10:49He has beautiful long straight shots and then comes in with nice tight body work.
10:54Loaded up on the left hand there did Navarro, but again back to the body is Carrillo.
11:02And it seems like Carrillo is just getting stronger as this fight goes on and turning up
11:06the pressure here with 30 seconds left in the third round, and that's a wrap. Wow. Overwhelming
11:12offense on display by Angel Carrillo. Josh Navarro not intelligently defending himself
11:18in the eyes of the referee, Gerard White. He says that's enough, calls him. That was enough,
11:23and Carrillo did a fantastic job of putting so much pressure, landing beautiful long shots,
11:29and then working that body, and I believe the body shots, the body work, is what really put
11:34a stamp on this fight tonight, TJ. Absolutely solid stuff. Now Angel Carrillo pushes his record
11:41to 3-0-1, second stoppage of his career, and man it was just one-way traffic to the body in that
11:48third round. Absolutely. He got that cut, and he said not tonight. I'm coming to close the show,
11:54and Angel did a fantastic job. Let's take a look at the ending of this fight here, TJ. You see the
12:00beautiful in and out work, and then just the shots straight down the middle to the body. I mean he
12:05was relentless tonight. It's Labor Day weekend, long weekend here in the United States, and
12:11looking at Carrillo, he was having a barbecue, rib roasting a bit in our opening fight of the
12:16night as he gets the stoppage over Josh Navarro. Solid stuff, and you know, like I said, we're
12:21learning about some of these athletes. He really dealt with that cut in a great way. He did. He did
12:25a fantastic job. He did not allow for the blood to get in his way to affect him in any way. In fact,
12:31he came more intentional, more focused, had a laser sharp look as soon as that cut happened,
12:36and ultimately it was Navarro that wilted. The referee had to intervene, but I think it was good
12:42for Carrillo to go in there with a savvy, you know, long-tenured martial artist in Muay Thai and
12:48now boxer and have to really work for it because it was that relentless onslaught of offense that
12:54ultimately got the stoppage because Navarro never stopped fighting. He just was forced to be
12:58defensive, and ultimately the referee had to intervene and go, okay, if you're not gonna
13:01be in this fight, I gotta get you out of it. Yes, Angel did a great job of dealing with
13:06awkwardness. The rhythm was off. The movements were very different than a traditional boxer,
13:11and he did a fantastic job of not allowing himself to get pulled into a fight. He fought
13:17boxing tonight, and it was absolutely beautiful. All right, we will make this one official back
13:22inside the ring to Matt Perrino. Ladies and gentlemen, referee Gerard White has called a
13:28stop to the contest at two minutes, 30 seconds in round number three. Declare the winner by
13:35knockout, Angel Carrillo!
