Henson's Heroes at Monmouth Raft Race
Transcript
00:00I'm here at Monmouth Raft Race with Neil Henson and his boat Henson's Heroes, they're back here for the 15th time.
00:10Tell me about your involvement in the Raft Race Neil.
00:13Good afternoon, yeah we're involved in the Raft Race because it was St David's Hospice that looked after our father for the last 6-9 months of his life back in 2007.
00:21So this is our means to help pay back, have some fun in the process and enjoy some hours together in his memory, so a very good experience.
00:30And you've done loads of different rafts in the time and you've won the best creative raft 13 times, tell me about some of the rafts you've done in the past.
00:40Yeah we've done Titanic, The Tank, Willy Wonka, The Ark, Noah's Ark, a couple of others as well so we've had a really good time.
00:50We've also raised significant funds this year, £2,850 for St David's and over the years probably around £20 so a good way to help, St David's have to help in helping us.
01:02And this year you've got a trawler, where did that idea come from?
01:05Well the trawler is an idea from D-Day and Dunkirk, so throughout the war fish and chips was a meal that wasn't put on the restricted list so you could have as much as you want for money and you could afford it.
01:18And trawlers were used in the evacuation from Dunkirk so there's a bit of a war theory given the anniversary for D-Day.
01:25And may God bless all who sail in there, have a really good trip.
01:29Thanks very much.
